Do you have a question about the Ferroli CRONO REM and is the answer not in the manual?
The Ferroli Crono Rem is a modulating remote control designed for use with boilers operating on the OpenTherm protocol. It functions as a chronothermostat, allowing users to manage and program heating and domestic hot water (DHW) settings, as well as monitor various boiler parameters.
The Crono Rem provides comprehensive control over a boiler system, offering both automatic and manual modes for temperature management. It features two ambient temperature setpoints: Comfort and Economy, which can be programmed for specific time bands and days of the week. In "INV" (winter) mode, both heating and DHW circuits are active, while in "EST" (summer) mode, only the DHW circuit is active. The device also includes timed functions like "Vacation" and "Party" mode, allowing for temporary temperature adjustments over specified durations.
A key feature is its weather compensation capability, which adjusts the boiler's flow setpoint based on the outside temperature. This is achieved through an algorithm that considers ambient setpoint, ambient temperature detected by the integrated sensor, weather compensation with ambient influence (KORR), filtered outside temperature (EST A), weather curves (KREG), and a fixed point offset (SP). The device can also act as a remote interface for the boiler, directly managing the boiler flow setpoint if the ambient probe is not active.
The Crono Rem allows users to view and modify a wide range of parameters through its "INFO" and "PROG" menus. The "INFO" menu displays real-time data such as boiler flow temperature, external probe temperature, boiler hydraulic circuit pressure, return temperature, DHW probe temperature, flue gas temperature, and modulation level. The "PROG" menu enables date and time settings, heating circuit time programming, storage tank time programming, and modification of various system parameters, including Comfort and Economy setpoints, frost protection threshold, and weather compensation settings.
The device features an intuitive user interface with dedicated buttons for navigation and parameter adjustment. The main display shows the current time and ambient temperature (or boiler flow setpoint). Users can easily switch between operating states (OFF, INV, EST) and ambient setpoint management modes (AUTO, COMFORT, ECONOMY).
The Crono Rem itself requires minimal maintenance. However, it plays a crucial role in monitoring the boiler's operational status and displaying fault codes, which aids in diagnosing and troubleshooting boiler issues. The internal backup battery ensures that date and time information is retained during power outages, requiring a charging phase ("CLOW" message) upon initial power-up or after prolonged disuse.
Installation involves disconnecting the boiler's power, removing any OpenTherm jumper on the boiler's terminal block, opening the remote control unit, routing two wires from the boiler's OpenTherm terminal through the base, connecting them to the remote control's terminals, securing the base to the wall, attaching the front panel, and finally, restoring power to the boiler. It is crucial to avoid placing communication cables near heat sources, high voltage, or magnetic fields to prevent communication problems (indicated by E88 fault on the boiler display).
