Overview

The FiiO BTA30 is a versatile Hi-Res Bluetooth Receiver and Transmitter, designed to enhance your audio experience by providing seamless wireless connectivity and high-quality sound. This device acts as a bridge between your audio sources and output devices, offering multiple modes of operation to suit various listening and transmitting needs.

Function Description

The BTA30 primarily functions as a Bluetooth receiver (RX), a Bluetooth transmitter (TX), and a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC).

In Bluetooth Receiving (RX) mode, the BTA30 allows you to stream audio wirelessly from your Bluetooth-enabled devices (such as smartphones, tablets, or computers) to your existing audio system. Once paired with your source device, the BTA30 outputs the audio through its line out, coaxial output, or optical output ports, enabling you to enjoy high-quality wireless audio on your speakers, headphones, or amplifier. This mode supports various codecs including SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices and delivering superior sound fidelity. The device provides visual indications for the active codec and sampling rate via its indicator light C, with different colors corresponding to different codecs and sampling rates (e.g., Blue for SBC, Cyan for AAC, Purple for aptX, Yellow for aptX HD, White for LDAC). For sampling rates, Purple light indicates ≤48kHz, and Yellow light indicates >48kHz.

In Bluetooth Transmitting (TX) mode, the BTA30 transforms your non-Bluetooth audio sources into Bluetooth-enabled ones. You can connect your audio source (e.g., a TV, CD player, or computer) to the BTA30 via its USB input, coaxial input, or optical input. The BTA30 then transmits the audio wirelessly to Bluetooth receiving devices like Bluetooth headphones or speakers (such as FiiO BTR5 or BTR3K). This mode also supports a range of codecs, including SBC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX LL, and LDAC, allowing you to choose the best codec for your listening preferences and device capabilities. Similar to RX mode, indicator light C provides visual feedback on the active codec and sampling rate.

As a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), the BTA30 can significantly upgrade the sound quality of your digital audio sources. When connected to a computer via its USB port, the BTA30 acts as an external sound card, processing digital audio signals and outputting them through its line out, coaxial output, or optical output. This bypasses the often inferior DACs built into computers, resulting in clearer, more detailed sound. Additionally, the BTA30 can decode audio signals input through its coaxial or optical ports, outputting the analog audio through the line out port. In USB DAC mode, the indicator light C shines White constantly, and for DSD, it shines Green constantly.

Usage Features

The BTA30 is designed for ease of use with intuitive controls and versatile connectivity options.

Power Management:

  • Turn on: After connecting the device to a USB power source, a short press of button A will power it on.
  • Turn off: When the device is on, hold button A for approximately 2 seconds until indicator lights B and C turn off.

Pairing and Connection:

  • Play/Pause: In RX/TX mode, a short press of button D will play or pause the audio.
  • Clear Pairing: To clear all previously paired devices, hold buttons A and D simultaneously for about 5 seconds when the device is powering on and in RX/TX mode (not in a pairing state).
  • Force to Pair: To manually initiate pairing, hold button D for about 3 seconds when the device is powering on and in RX/TX mode, until indicator light C flashes alternately in red and green.
  • Reconnecting State: When the device is attempting to reconnect, indicator light C will quickly flash twice every 2 seconds in green.

Simultaneous Dual Bluetooth Device Connection:

  • Bluetooth Receiving (RX): After successfully pairing with a first device, hold button D for about 3 seconds to re-enter pairing mode. Search for "BTA30" on a second device and pair it. To use both devices simultaneously, you may need to select "BTA30" on the first device to reconnect, or restart the BTA30 after the second device is successfully paired.
  • Bluetooth Transmitting (TX): The process is similar to RX mode. After successfully pairing with two separate receiving devices, restart the BTA30 to enable simultaneous transmission to both.
  • Important Note: When using LDAC and aptX LL Bluetooth codecs in TX mode, the BTA30 cannot connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

Audio Input/Output Priority:

  • Bluetooth Receiving (RX): In this mode, the line out, coaxial output, and optical output ports can all work simultaneously, providing flexible output options.
  • Bluetooth Transmitting (TX): The input priority is USB DAC input > Coaxial input > Optical input. This means the device will prioritize the USB DAC input if available, followed by coaxial, and then optical.
  • DAC Mode:
    • Input Priority: USB DAC input > Coaxial input > Optical input.
    • Output Priority (when using USB DAC input): Line out, Coaxial output, and Optical output can all work simultaneously.

Maintenance Features

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your FiiO BTA30, adhere to the following maintenance guidelines:

  • Charging: Always use a standard 5V charger to power the device. This prevents potential damage from incompatible power sources.
  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the BTA30 to extreme temperatures. Do not place it in environments above 45°C or below 0°C, as this can affect internal components and battery life.
  • Liquid Protection: Keep the device away from liquids. Moisture can cause short circuits and irreparable damage to the internal electronics.
  • Volume Control: Before wearing headphones, always adjust the volume to a suitable level. This protects your hearing from sudden loud sounds.
  • Troubleshooting: If the device encounters an error or malfunctions, first try unplugging and then re-plugging the USB cable. Then, short press the power button (button A) to restart the device and restore it to normal operation. This simple reset can resolve many minor issues.

The BTA30 comes with essential accessories including a Type C USB cable, a quick start guide, a warranty card, and foot pads, ensuring you have everything needed to get started and maintain your device. For further information and support, FiiO provides resources on their website, including product details and customer support services. The device also complies with WEEE Directive for product disposal, emphasizing responsible recycling at the end of its serviceable life.
