Troubleshooting Information

Overview

The Firefly DE370 is a wireless digital dermatoscope designed for inspecting skin and hair under magnification. It is a versatile tool suitable for various applications, including medical examinations, veterinary examinations, medical and science education, and telemedicine. The system comprises the wireless digital dermatoscope, a software application, and a battery charger.

Function Description:

The Firefly DE370 Wireless Dermatoscope captures magnified images and videos of skin and hair. It features an integrated polarizer ring that allows for multiple degrees of polarization, essential for dermoscopy applications. A fine focus wheel enables crystal-clear images even at very high magnifications. The device connects wirelessly to smart devices (iOS or Android) via Wi-Fi, allowing users to view, capture, and record images and videos through a dedicated software application.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Weight: Approximately 113 g (0.25 lb)
  • Dimensions (approximate): Length: 13.1 cm (5.25 inches); Height: 3.5 cm (1.4 inches); Width: 3.5 cm (1.4 inches)
  • Power: 3.7V @ 550mA
  • Protection against ingress of water: IPXØ
  • Operating Conditions:
    • Temperature: +10°C to +40°C (+50°F to +104°F)

  • Wireless Connectivity:
    • Modulation: WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac
    • Output Power: 10dBm to 14 dBm ± 1.5 dB
    • Sensitivity: PER @ -59dBm to -91dBm
    • Max Input Level: -20dBm to -30dBm
    • Coverage: Over 5 meters (15ft) on open field
  • Battery:
    • Type: 1000mAh Lithium battery
    • Continuous Usage: More than 1.5 hours
  • System Requirements:
    • iOS devices: iOS version 9.3 or higher
    • Android phones: Android 4.4 or higher
    • Android tablets: Android 6.0 or higher
  • Safety Compliance: FCC, CE, and RoHS compliant

Usage Features:

  • Powering On: The device is activated by pushing the 'Power Button' at the rear, indicated by an indicator light.
  • Software Application: The "Firefly Pro" application (available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store) allows users to take photos and record videos. It is designed to be user-friendly and self-explanatory.
  • Wi-Fi Connection: To establish a connection, users navigate to their smart device's Wi-Fi settings, select the Firefly Device, and input the default password "12345678". A Wi-Fi indicator light on the device confirms readiness.
  • Focusing: The focus wheel can be turned for a clear image. Turning it to the left increases magnification, while moving the microscope farther away and turning the wheel to the right increases the field of view.
  • Polarizer: An integrated polarizer ring, located behind the nose extender, can be rotated from 0 to 360 degrees to achieve multiple degrees of polarization.
  • Image and Video Capture: Dedicated Snapshot and Video Recording buttons allow for easy capture. A shutter sound confirms image capture, while video recording operates silently.
  • Recommended Holding Position: For stability and lens control, it is suggested to hold the dermatoscope with the transparent cover down and the thumb on the equipment, leaving the index finger free to adjust the focus wheel. For high magnification, positioning the focus wheel opening towards the user and the transparent cover vertically downward on a smooth desktop provides a stable observation platform.
  • Battery Indicators:
    • Power Indicator: Off when the device is off, green when on, and yellow when battery power is low.
    • Battery Charging Indicator: Off during normal operation, red when charging, and green when charging is complete.
  • Charging: The embedded lithium battery is charged via the micro-USB port at the rear using the provided USB DC cable, which can be connected to a PC's USB port or a "USB Power Adapter" for wall outlet charging. An overload protection circuit prevents overcharging.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning and Care:
    • The dermatoscope cannot be sterilized or submerged in liquids.
    • The exterior and clear plastic nose cone can be cleaned with a lint-free cloth soaked in an alcohol solution or with CaviWipes/similar disinfectant wipes. Care must be taken to prevent liquid from seeping into internal components.
    • The clear plastic nose cone can be removed and soaked in alcohol or other disinfectant solutions separately.
    • Alcohol, chemicals, or water should not be applied directly to the lenses to avoid damage to internal optical components.
    • The device should be stored in a safe location to prevent sudden impacts or drops, which could damage the optical assembly or other internal components.
  • Battery Maintenance: The lithium battery is a consumable item guaranteed for twelve months against defects. Unauthorized battery replacement or use of unauthorized batteries will void the warranty.
  • Recycling:
    • Within the EU: Do not dispose of as unsorted municipal refuse. Submit for separate collection as specified by Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE). Contaminated products are exempt from this directive.
    • Outside the EU: Recycle the product according to national, state, and local regulations when it reaches its end of life.
  • Service Policy: All repairs under warranty must be performed or approved by Firefly or its authorized resellers. Unauthorized repairs void the warranty. For service or spare parts, users should contact their Firefly reseller. When returning a product for service, it is recommended to disconnect all accessories, use original packaging, include a packing list and Return Authorization number, and insure the shipment.
