Overview

This document describes the FP520V smoke alarm, a device designed for early warning of fire smoke in residential settings. It features an optical sensor and radio link functionality, allowing for interconnection with multiple units.

Function Description

The FP520V smoke alarm is an optical smoke alarm intended for installation in residential buildings, apartments, and rooms with residential-like use. Its primary function is to detect fire smoke and provide an early warning to occupants, enabling them to react appropriately to hazardous events. The device is equipped with an LED indicator, a test and activation button, and a sound output for alerts.

Upon detecting smoke, the alarm enters "alarm mode," generating a loud acoustic signal and visual flashes. The device also includes an "alarm silence facility," allowing users to mute the alarm for approximately 10±1 minutes by pressing the test button. After this period, it automatically resets to normal operation mode. If combustion particles are still present, the alarm will re-enter alarm mode. Users are advised to identify the cause of the alarm and ensure safe circumstances before using the silence facility.

The smoke alarm has a "low battery mode," indicated by a repetitive beep and flash for about 30 days when the battery is running low. The acoustic low battery warning can be muted for ten hours by pressing the test button, but the device remains functional and capable of detecting smoke during this period.

A "fault warning mode" is activated if the smoke alarm is not functioning properly. This mode prompts the user to clean the device or replace it.

Usage Features

  • Mounting: The device is mounted by first securing a mounting plate to the ceiling or wall with two 5mm screws and plastic plugs. The smoke alarm is then placed on the bracket and secured by turning it clockwise.
  • Activation: Before commissioning, the device must be activated by pushing the activation switch to the right. The LED lights up upon activation.
  • Testing: Correct operation can be tested by pressing the test button. A loud beep confirms proper function. If no sound is generated, the device is not functioning correctly and should not be used.
  • Interconnection: Up to 40 FP520V smoke alarms can be wirelessly connected. One alarm is designated as the "master." To connect, the master alarm is put into "connect mode" (3 quick presses of the test button), indicated by a red then blue LED flash. Subsequent alarms are put into "learn mode" (3 quick presses of the test button), indicated by a red then green LED flash, confirming connection. All connected devices can be tested by pressing the test button on any unit; they will all beep twice per second for ten seconds and flash twice per second for five minutes.
  • Reset Connection: To disconnect an alarm, it must be removed from its mounting plate or its activation switch pushed to the left. Then, while holding the test button, the activation switch is pushed to the right. The test button is held until the red LED turns off. Pressing the test button again when the LED lights up will cause it to flash, indicating the network is being cleared. The connection is cleared when the LED turns off.
  • Alarm Silence: Pressing the test button during an alarm will mute the acoustic signal for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Low Battery Silence: Pressing the test button during a low battery warning will mute the acoustic signal for ten hours.

Maintenance Features

  • Weekly Testing: The smoke alarm should be tested weekly using the test facility to ensure correct operation. A loud beep confirms functionality. Users should stand at arm's length during testing due to the alarm's loudness.
  • Regular Cleaning: The device should be cleaned at least once per month to remove dirt, dust, or debris. A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush should be used to vacuum all sides and covers of the smoke alarm. The top cover should not be removed for cleaning inside.
  • No Repairs: Users should not attempt to repair the smoke alarm. If the device shows damage related to its functionality, it must be replaced.
  • Troubleshooting: False alarms are often caused by dust or steam.
  • Disposal: The WEEE symbol indicates that the product and batteries must be disposed of separately from household waste. At the end of their life, they should be taken to a designated waste collection point for safe disposal or recycling, protecting the environment and human health.
