Changing the Drive-Belts on the Fischer GL4
1. Start the job with leaving the GL4 connected to the 3point linkage on your tractor,
and disconnect the PTO shaft!
2. Set the swivel arms to closed position - behind the base mower.
3. Remove the pins which attach the hydraulic rams (just the swivel-arm end is really
necessary - if more movement is required remove both)
4. Now you can freely move the swivel arm to what ever position is most comfortable to
work with.
5. Remove orange safety cover as per maintenance instructions.
6. Loosen (don’t take off) the 6 nuts/bolts holding the swivel arm discs as per
maintenance procedure (holding bolt-head in place with a 19mm flat spanner, socket
underneath).
7. Fully loosen the belt adjustment screw on the far end of the swivel arm
8. Undo the 4 bolts holding the cover over the gearboxes and slide over to one side to
get to the gearbox connection sleeve or duplex chain.
9. Remove the safety pin on the connection sleeve of the gearboxes and slide the
sleeves towards the centre gearbox - if your machine has a duplex chain connection,
remove the pin of the chain-link and take the duplex chain off - you may mark the
position of the two sprockets. Do not loose the 3 chain lock links & safety clip.
10. Take off the 4 bolts connecting the gearbox and turn it a bit sideways to create a gap
to eventually feed the new belt past the sprockets or gearbox shaft ends.
11. Take off the 8 bolts holding the cover-plate just under the gearbox
12. Lift the slasher with the 3point linkage and lower it onto a slab of wood placing the
wood under the middle of the cutting bar - this will lift the gearbox slightly, enough
to slide the cover-plate out sideways.
13. Slide the cover-plate (8 bolts) out sideways.
14. Remove the old/damaged drive-belt and clean out the entire belt cavity.
