Overview

The Flex-Pro Peristaltic Metering Pump is a positive displacement pump designed for accurately pumping a variety of fluids. It is pre-configured for the specific tubing assembly that ships with the unit, which includes an identification number for easy re-ordering. Each pump is factory pressure tested with clean water before shipping, so trace amounts of water may be present in the pre-installed tube assembly.

Function Description:

The Flex-Pro pump operates on the peristaltic principle, which means it does not have valves that can clog, thereby reducing maintenance needs. It is self-priming, even against maximum line pressure, and does not require by-pass valves. This design prevents vapor lock and loss of prime. The pump utilizes a variable speed DC motor, offering a 100:1 turndown ratio for precise control over output. It can inject at maximum pressure in either clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation. The pump is compatible with Blue-White's output Flow Verification Sensor (FVS) system, which helps monitor pump output.

Usage Features:

The pump features an operator-friendly digital touch pad and a backlit LCD display that shows motor speed, input signal values, and service or alarm status. The keypad consists of eight positive-action tactile switches.

To operate the pump, the START button initiates operation according to its previous operating state. Pressing the START button repeatedly toggles the display between %SPEED, RPM, and Tube Timer Hours. The STOP button overrides all other controls, immediately halting the pump and displaying "OFF." In this state, the pump will not respond to incoming input signals.

The UP and DOWN arrows are used to increase or decrease pump output, respectively, and to navigate through menu items. A PRIME button activates a 60-second prime feature, running the pump at full speed for that duration or until the STOP or START button is pressed. The START button will stop the prime feature and return the pump to its previous operating state.

A REVERSE ROTATION button allows the rotor to reverse its flow direction immediately upon pressing. This feature can be used to purge chemicals from tubing or to extend tube life by shifting the pressure side of the tube assembly.

The pump includes a Contact Closure Input for remote start/stop functionality, using either a close=run or open=stop signal. This can be connected to external devices like a foot pedal, PLC, or other contact closures. The default setting for this input is "Disable." When enabled, the display will show "STANDBY" if the pump is stopped remotely, with a blue background. When started remotely, the background turns green. The word "Remote" will always be displayed on the lower left side of the screen when Contact Closure Input is enabled.

The Flow Verification System (FVS), sold separately, monitors pump output. If the sensor does not detect chemical flow during operation, the pump enters an alarm mode and stops. An alarm delay time (1-255 seconds) can be programmed to allow for gas clearing. If an FVS alarm occurs, the pump stops, sends an external signal (if configured), and the screen flashes "FVS" with an alarm icon. To clear an FVS alarm, the START button must be pressed or the pump power cycled.

The patented Tube Failure Detection (TFD) system is designed to stop the pump and provide an output alarm if the pump tube ruptures and chemical enters the pump head. It detects chemicals with a conductivity greater than 500 microsiemens and is not triggered by water or silicone oil. If a TFD alarm occurs, the pump stops, closes an alarm output, and the screen flashes "TFD" with an alarm icon.

Maintenance Features:

The Flex-Pro pump requires minimal maintenance, but weekly checks of the pump and all accessories are recommended, especially when pumping chemicals. Components should be inspected for signs of leaking, swelling, cracking, discoloration, or corrosion, and worn or damaged parts replaced immediately. Signs of severe chemical attack, such as cracking or crazing, during the first week of operation indicate the need to remove the chemical and replace parts with more suitable materials.

Occasional cleaning of the pump is necessary, depending on the severity of service. When changing the pump tube assembly, the pump head chamber, roller assembly, and pump head cover should be wiped clean of dirt and debris. The pump head cover bearing may require periodic greasing with Aeroshell aviation grease #5 or equivalent. While not necessary, 100% silicon lubrication can be used on the roller and tube assemblies.

The injection/check valve assembly should be periodically cleaned, particularly when injecting fluids that calcify, such as sodium hypochlorite, to prevent lime deposits and blockages that can increase back pressure. The suction strainer also requires periodic cleaning.

The pump has a built-in Pump Tube Timer that tracks run-time hours. To view the current timer value, press the START and DOWN buttons simultaneously. The timer screen displays for 4 seconds before returning to the previous display. Pressing the DOWN arrow button twice while the timer is displayed resets it to zero. When replacing the pump tube, the pump will prompt the user to reset the timer.

For tube replacement, the pump head cover is removed by unscrewing four thumb screws. The pump enters MAINTENANCE MODE, and the rotor rotates at a maximum of 6 RPM for safety. The suction side of the tubing assembly is pulled out, and then the old tube assembly is removed while the rotor rotates. The provided Tube Installation Tool should be used to leverage tubing into the pump head, not fingers. After cleaning the pump head and rotor, the new tube assembly is installed by guiding it into the pump head while the rotor rotates, using the installation tool to stretch the tubing into position. The discharge fitting is then secured, and the pump head cover re-attached.

If the TFD system detects a chemical, the pump tube must be replaced, and the pump head and roller assembly thoroughly cleaned to avoid voiding the warranty. To confirm chemical detection, a small amount of chemical can be placed in the bottom of the pump head (covering the sensors), and the pump head cover replaced. If the TFD system detects the chemical, the pump will stop after a two-second confirmation period, and the TFD Alarm screen will display. If no chemical is detected, the pump continues to run. After testing, all traces of chemical must be carefully cleaned from the sensor probes, and the roller assembly and tubing replaced.
