ABOUT US
In 1918 George Hansburg was inspired to invent the pogo sck. Soon aer devel-
oping & patenng the original pogo sck, Hansburg brought his idea to personal
friend, Florenz Ziegeld, of the world-famous Ziegeld Follies. Ziegeld, the emi-
nent Broadway impresario of the day immediately choreographed a pogo roune
into his Follies show.
The Follies made pogo scks the latest craze and demand went through the roof.
To meet the demand, Hansburg opened a factory in NY and 97 years later Flybar
connues to be the worlds leading pogo innovator and The Original Pogo Sck
Company.

Overview

This document serves as an owner's manual for a Flybar Master Pogo Stick, a device designed for recreational jumping and bouncing. The pogo stick's primary function is to provide an enjoyable and active experience, allowing users to propel themselves upwards and bounce across various surfaces. It is marketed as a product from "The Original Pogo Stick Company," highlighting its historical lineage and the brand's long-standing presence in the pogo stick market since its invention in 1918.

Function Description

The Flybar Master Pogo Stick operates on a simple mechanical principle, utilizing an internal spring mechanism to store and release energy, enabling the user to bounce. When the user presses down, the spring compresses, and upon release, it expands, pushing the user upwards. The design emphasizes durability and performance, allowing for repeated bounces and sustained activity. The pogo stick is intended for outdoor use on appropriate surfaces, providing a dynamic way to engage in physical activity and develop balance and coordination. Its core function is to facilitate vertical propulsion and controlled bouncing, offering a unique form of recreation and exercise.

Usage Features

The Flybar Master Pogo Stick is designed for straightforward use with an emphasis on safety and proper technique. It comes pre-assembled, meaning no initial setup is required, allowing users to begin bouncing almost immediately after unboxing. The internal spring is intentionally "tight" when new, requiring several successive bounces to build momentum and achieve full compression, which is a normal characteristic of the device.

Key usage features and guidelines include:

  • Safety First: The manual strongly advises users to always wear a helmet and other protective gear. It explicitly states, "Don't even think about using the Maverick without one," underscoring the importance of head protection.
  • Footwear Requirement: Users are instructed to "NEVER use your Pogo with bare feet" and to "Always wear athletic shoes" to ensure proper grip and foot protection.
  • Balance Development: The manual suggests developing balance by holding the pogo stick vertically and pulling it up with the user, indicating that balance is a crucial skill for effective use.
  • Surface Selection: Users are advised to check for hazards before jumping and to use the pogo stick on "solid, flat, clean, well lit, and dry" surfaces, with concrete being the recommended choice. This highlights the importance of a stable and predictable environment for safe operation.
  • Avoidance of Hazards: Specific hazards to avoid include traffic, other people (to prevent collisions), slippery/uneven ground (which reduces traction), steep inclines (which make maintaining perpendicularity difficult and increase skid risk), and soft or weak surfaces like plank flooring or lawns (which are inconsistent).
  • Rubber Tip Importance: The pogo stick should "not be used without the rubber tip properly in place," as this tip is essential for traction and stability.
  • Gradual Skill Development: The manual encourages users to "Stay within your abilities" and emphasizes that "skill develops slowly." It advises taking time to become instinctively aware of factors like traction, bounce height, balance correction, and landing techniques.
  • Bail-out Preparedness: Users are encouraged to "Be prepared to bail out at any time" and, when doing so, to land with knees slightly bent to absorb impact, demonstrating an awareness of potential falls and how to mitigate injury.
  • Regular Checks: Users are instructed to "Check your Pogo before first use and on a regular basis" to ensure it remains in good working condition.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Flybar Master Pogo Stick. The primary maintenance activity involves lubrication of the internal components.

Key maintenance features and guidelines include:

  • Factory Lubrication: The pogo stick comes pre-lubricated from the factory, but this initial lubrication is not permanent.
  • Regular Lubrication: Users are informed that "additional lubrication on a regular basis" is required. This is particularly important during "heavy use," when the pogo stick "should be cleaned and lubricated every few days."
  • Lubricant Type: Automotive oil is recommended for maintaining proper lubrication, indicating that a common and accessible lubricant can be used.
  • Lubrication Procedure: A simple, three-step process is outlined for lubricating the pogo stick:
    1. Turn the pogo stick upside down.
    2. Squirt a small amount of oil around the edges of the bottom steel shaft.
    3. Allow the oil to seep in for approximately 5 minutes, then perform a few bounces to help spread the lubricant throughout the mechanism.
  • Storage: The manual advises users to "Store your pogo in a dry and sheltered place" to protect it from environmental elements that could potentially affect its materials and performance over time.

In summary, the Flybar Master Pogo Stick is a recreational device designed for bouncing, emphasizing user safety, gradual skill development, and routine maintenance to ensure a lasting and enjoyable experience.
