Transmission
CAUTION: The engine must be rotated only in the clockwise direction, otherwise engine damage can occur. The crankshaft, the crankshaft sprocket and the pulley are
fitted together by friction between the flange faces on each part. For that reason, the crankshaft sprocket can also be moved when the crankshaft pulley is turned in the
counterclockwise direction.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.
2. Remove the upper gearshift lever and the outer gearshift lever boot and console assembly as an assembly. For additional information, refer to Shift Lever and Boot in this
section.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
4. If transmission disassembly is necessary, remove the drain plug, and drain the transmission fluid.
Install the drain plug after draining all of the fluid.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the reversing lamp switch.
6. Disconnect the following:
1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector from the bracket.
7. Disconnect the wiring harness from the bracket.
