Pinpoint Test K: The Hazard Lamps Are Inoperative
Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 90, Turn Signal/Stop/Hazard Lamps for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation
The smart junction box (SJB) provides voltage to the indicator flasher relay through circuit SPB17 (RD). The indicator flasher relay routes the voltage to the multifunction switch through
circuit CLS32 (BN/YE). When the hazard switch is engaged, the multifunction switch routes the voltage to all the turn lamps.
Possible Causes
Fuse
Circuit SPB17 (RD) open
Circuit CLS32 (BN/YE) open, short to ground or voltage
Indicator flasher relay
Multifunction switch
SJB
PINPOINT TEST K: THE HAZARD LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
VOLTAGE
Ignition OFF.
Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a.
Ignition ON.
Does the turn lamp continue to illuminate?
Yes
If the RH front turn lamp (and rear turn lamp if equipped with the STX package) is always on,
REPAIR circuit CLS41 (GY/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
If the LH front turn lamp (and rear turn lamp if equipped with the STX package) is always on,
REPAIR circuit CLS39 (VT/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER Section 211-05. TEST the system for normal
operation.
J4 CHECK THE TURN LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Disconnect: Inoperative Turn Lamp.
Measure the resistance between the inoperative turn lamp, harness side
and ground as follows:
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Inoperative Turn Lamp Connector-Pin Circuit
LH front C1023-1 GD121 (BK/YE)
RH front C1043-1 GD123 (BK/GY)
LH rear C413-1 GD121 (BK/YE)
RH rear C416-1 GD121 (BK/YE)
Yes
GO to J5.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
J5 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
Disconnect: Multifunction Switch.
Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 149 for component testing.
Is the multifunction switch OK?
Yes
If the RH turn lamp is inoperative, REPAIR circuit CLS41 (GY/YE). TEST the system for normal
operation.
If the LH turn lamp is inoperative, REPAIR circuit CLS39 (VT/WH). TEST the system for normal
operation.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to Section 211-05. TEST the system for normal
operation.
Test Step Result / Action to Take
K1 CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL LAMP OPERATION
Ignition ON.
Place the multifunction switch in the RH and LH TURN positions.
Do the turn signals operate correctly?
Yes
GO to K2.
No
GO to Pinpoint Test I.
K2 CHECK THE HAZARD LAMPS
Ignition OFF.
Turn on the hazard lamps.
Are the lamps illuminated but not flashing?
Yes
GO to K9.
No
GO to K3.
K3 CHECK FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Listen to the indicator flasher relay.
Is there a rapid clicking sound coming from the indicator flasher relay?
Yes
GO to K4.
No
GO to K5.
K4 CHECK CIRCUIT CLS32 (BN/YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202b.
Is there a rapid clicking sound coming from the indicator flasher relay?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to Section
211-05. TEST the system for normal operation.
