Overview

This document is a user manual for a Fortress brand refrigerator, model FDG123M16S.

Function Description:

This appliance is a household refrigerator designed for storing food. It features a fresh food compartment and a freezer compartment. The fresh food compartment is suitable for storing various fruits, vegetables, beverages, and other foods for short-term consumption. The freezer compartment is designed for longer-term storage of frozen foods and for making ice. The refrigerator operates on an automatic defrosting system.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model No.: FDG123M16S
  • Rated Voltage/Frequency: 220-240V~/50Hz
  • Rated Current: 0.97 A
  • Climate Class: ST
  • Refrigerant, Amount: R600a, 38g (R600a is flammable)
  • Fresh Food Compartment Volume: 88 L
  • Freezer Compartment Volume: 35 L
  • Net Weight: 41 kg
  • Gross Weight: 45 kg
  • Product Dimensions (WxDxH): 497x580x1280 mm
  • Power Socket Requirement: Dedicated 220-240V socket with no less than 10A. No adapters or extension cords should be used.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Control: The refrigerator features a temperature control knob and a temperature control bar. Under normal conditions, both are set at the middle position. Users can adjust these controls to "Colder" to decrease temperature or "Cold" to increase temperature, depending on the desired cooling degree and ambient conditions.
  • Ice Making: The manual describes a procedure for making ice using an ice cube box placed in the freezer compartment.
  • Food Storage:
    • Fresh Food Compartment: Recommended for fruits, vegetables, and short-term consumables. Cooked foods should be cooled to room temperature before storage. Foods should be sealed to prevent drying and odors. Glass shelves are adjustable for flexible storage. A fruit and vegetable crisper is provided.
    • Freezer Compartment: Suitable for meat, fish, and other foods not consumed in the short term. Meat should preferably be divided into small pieces before freezing.
  • Placement of Food: It is important to maintain space between foods for proper cool air circulation. Hot foodstuffs should be cooled before placing them in the refrigerator to prevent increased internal temperature and energy consumption.
  • Installation:
    • The refrigerator should be placed in a well-ventilated indoor area on a flat and stable ground.
    • Adequate clearance is required: greater than 30cm at the top, and more than 10cm from both sides and the back for ventilation and heat dissipation.
    • It should be kept away from heat sources, direct sunlight, and moist or watery places.
    • After initial placement, the refrigerator should remain stationary for half an hour before connecting to power. It should run for 2-3 hours before loading fresh or frozen foods, or more than 4 hours in summer.
    • If placed on soil, a 10cm thick wooden plate should be placed underneath to prevent rusting and protect electrical components.
  • Accessories: Shelves can be removed by gripping and lifting them straight upward. The flexible door rail can be dismantled by pulling out the tray first, then drawing the pedestal outward.
  • Safety during Operation:
    • Do not pull the power cord when unplugging; grasp the plug directly.
    • Do not use the appliance if the power cord is damaged or worn.
    • Ensure the grounding electrode of the power socket has a reliable grounding line.
    • In case of gas leakage, turn off the gas valve and open doors/windows; do not unplug the refrigerator or other electrical appliances to avoid sparks.
    • Do not place regulators, rice cookers, microwave ovens, or other appliances on top of the refrigerator.
    • Do not put flammable, explosive, volatile, or highly corrosive items in or near the refrigerator.
    • Do not store bottled or sealed containers of fluid in the freezer compartment to prevent bursts.
    • Avoid touching high-temperature components at the back (compressor can reach 80°C) and the freezer compartment walls or frozen food with bare hands to prevent frostbite.
    • Close doors tightly to ensure safety and prevent increased electricity consumption.
    • Open doors as little as possible during power outages.
    • Continuous operation is recommended once started; avoid moving the refrigerator under normal circumstances.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always unplug the refrigerator before cleaning.
    • Do not use hard brushes, steel balls, wire brushes, abrasives (like toothpaste), organic solvents (alcohol, acetone), boiling water, acid, or alkaline items for cleaning, as these may damage surfaces.
    • Do not rinse with water. Use a dry cloth for lighting lamps, temperature control knob, and electrical components.
    • Clean doors frequently with a dry cloth; avoid water, toluene, brush, or chemical cloth.
    • Clean the interior of the freezer and fresh food compartments and accessories monthly. Remove all objects and accessories for cleaning. Use soft towels or sponges dipped in water and non-corrosive neutral detergents, followed by clean water and a dry cloth. Allow natural drying with the door open before restoring power.
  • Refrigerator Wall: Keep the back of the refrigerator clean to prevent pests and maintain good cooling. Timely clean dust behind the refrigerator and on the ground to improve cooling effect and energy saving.
  • Emergency Treatment: If abnormal situations (e.g., smell of burning) occur, stop operation, unplug the refrigerator, and consult an authorized service center.
  • Disposal: The refrigerator contains R600a refrigerant and cyclopentane foam materials, which are combustible. Discarded refrigerators should be isolated from fire sources and not burned. Transfer to qualified professional recycling companies. Before discarding, detach or destroy door bearings and gaskets to prevent children from being trapped. Follow local regulations for disposal.
  • Long-term Non-use: If unused for a long time, unplug, clean, and keep the door open to avoid bad odors.
  • Moving the Refrigerator: Before moving, remove all items, fasten glass partitions and crispers with tape. Do not turn it upside down, place it horizontally, or vibrate it. The carrying angle should not exceed 45°.

Troubleshooting (Normal Situations, Not Malfunctions):

  • Heat on Sides: The sides of the refrigerator will heat up when the condenser is working, which is normal and does not affect cooling performance.
  • Initial Cooling Time: It takes time for the compartment temperature to decrease when the refrigerator is first started.
  • Compressor Heat: The compressor surface getting hot during normal working conditions is normal.
  • Water Flowing Sound: The sound of refrigerant (cooling gas) flowing is normal.
  • External Condensation: Condensation may form on the outside when humidity is high.
  • Enclosure Heat: The refrigerator enclosure may emit heat during operation, especially in summer, due to condenser radiation.
  • Door Seal Condensation: Condensation on exterior surfaces and door seals of the freezer compartment when ambient humidity is high is normal; wipe with a dry towel.
  • Airflow Sound: Refrigerants circulating in lines produce eruption and grunt sounds, which is normal and does not affect cooling.
  • Buzz: A buzzing sound from the compressor when starting up or shutting down is normal.
  • Clatter: The solenoid valve or electric switch valve may clatter, which is normal.
  • Fresh Food Compartment Frost/Defrost: The fresh food compartment periodically frosts and defrosts, generating water drops on the backside during defrosting, which is normal.
