Overview

The Franke Minerva 3-in-1 Kettle Tap is a kitchen appliance designed to dispense boiling water (100°C), as well as conventional hot and cold water. This versatility makes it a convenient addition to any kitchen, eliminating the need for a separate kettle for boiling water. The tap's mixer section connects to the hot and cold water mains via filter valves, while the boiling water hose connects directly to a Franke Heating Tank, which is a separate component and has its own installation manual.

Function Description

The primary function of the Franke Minerva 3-in-1 Kettle Tap is to provide instant boiling water, alongside standard hot and cold water. This integrated design streamlines kitchen tasks, making it easier to prepare hot beverages or assist with cooking.

For dispensing boiling water, the tap features a childproof control knob. This knob requires a push and turn action to operate, enhancing safety and preventing accidental activation, especially important given the 100°C water temperature. When using the boiling water function, it is recommended to flush a cupful of residual water first to eliminate any air bubbles. Users should also hold their cup, teapot, or saucepan close to the tap spout to prevent splashing and ensure safe operation. Releasing the button on the handle immediately shuts off the boiling water supply.

For hot and cold water, the tap utilizes a vertical lever, operating in the conventional manner to supply normal hot, cold, or mixed water as needed. This allows for seamless switching between different water temperatures for various kitchen uses.

Usage Features

The Franke Minerva 3-in-1 Kettle Tap offers several features designed for user convenience and safety:

  • Integrated Boiling Water: The most significant feature is the ability to dispense 100°C boiling water on demand, directly from the tap. This eliminates the waiting time associated with traditional kettles and frees up counter space.
  • Childproof Control Knob: The boiling water function is secured by a childproof mechanism, requiring a specific push and turn action. This is a crucial safety feature to prevent scalding, as the tap delivers water at a very high temperature.
  • Versatile Water Supply: Beyond boiling water, the tap provides standard hot and cold water, making it a complete solution for all water dispensing needs at the sink.
  • Installation Flexibility: The tap can be installed on either the sink or worktop. Users can choose a left or right-handed configuration, allowing for customization based on kitchen layout and personal preference. The recommendation is to position the spout opposite to the boiling water control, considering the sink bowl(s) and user handedness. The hot and cold water operation can also be reversed by exchanging the position of their respective hoses in the tap body.
  • Easy Filling and Venting: The installation process includes clear steps for filling and venting the heating tank, ensuring proper operation from the start. This involves closing the boiling water tap, opening the mains valve and pressure relief valve, then opening the boiling water tap and allowing water to flow for approximately 3 minutes until clear.
  • Gasket Placement: During installation, it's important to place a gasket between the tap hose and the heating tank hose to ensure a secure and leak-free connection. A spare gasket is provided with the heating tank.
  • Filter Valve Option: For easy access and maintenance, a filter valve can be installed on either side of the water filter.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the Franke Minerva 3-in-1 Kettle Tap primarily involves addressing potential calcification of the tap aerator and ensuring proper connections.

  • Tap Aerator Decalcification: Over time, the tap aerator may calcify due to mineral deposits in the water. The decalcification process is straightforward:
    1. Unscrew the aerator collet.
    2. Clean the aerator with a suitable descaling agent.
    3. Replace the aerator insert into the collet.
    4. Replace the O-ring on the aerator and tighten it. Warning: Only use cleaners containing citric acid, as other cleaning agents may affect the tap's material.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide to help users identify and resolve common issues:
    • Water leak: This typically indicates a connection leak, which can often be resolved by tightening the connection or replacing it.
    • Tap does not supply boiling water: This could be due to issues with the Franke Heating Tank installation, or the mains water valve and pressure relief valve not being open. Users are advised to check these components or contact after-sales service.
    • Kettle Tap only supplies cold water: This suggests a problem related to the heating tank and requires consulting the heating tank manual.
    • Reduced water or splashing water: This is often caused by debris or calcium deposits in the tap aerator, which can be resolved by descaling the aerator as described above.

The Franke Minerva 3-in-1 Kettle Tap is designed for domestic kitchen use and comes with a 2-year warranty covering material and manufacturing defects. Proper installation and adherence to maintenance guidelines are essential to ensure the validity of the warranty and the safe, efficient operation of the tap.
