Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner, providing instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner is designed to cool and dehumidify a room, and some models also offer heating functionality. It provides various operating modes including Cool, Auto, Dry, Fan Only, and Heat (on some models). The unit can be controlled via a touch pad on the unit itself or through a remote control. A key feature is the current detection device in the power supply cord, designed to reduce the risk of fire. The unit also includes a "Sleep" feature for energy-efficient night-time operation and a "Timer" function for delayed start or stop. Air directional louvers allow users to adjust airflow up, down, left, or right.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: Available in 115V 15A, 230V 15A, 230V 20A, and 230V 30A configurations, indicated by the plug type. Proper grounding is essential.
  • Temperature Range (Cool/Heat Mode): Can be set between 62°F (17°C) and 86°F (30°C).
  • Temperature Range (Dry Mode): Can be adjusted between 62°F (17°C) and 86°F (30°C), with fan speed fixed at "Lo".
  • Fan Speeds: Auto, Lo (Low), Med (Medium), and Hi (High).
  • Remote Control Batteries: AAA size.
  • Compressor Delay: Features an automatic 3-minute time-delayed start in Cool mode to prevent overheating and circuit breaker tripping. In Fan Only mode, there is a 2-second delay for compressor shutdown.
  • Temperature Display: Capable of displaying temperature in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius.
  • Memory Function: After a power outage, the unit memorizes the last setting and restores it once power is returned.

Usage Features:

  • Turning On/Off: Press the ON/OFF button on the touch pad or remote.
  • Mode Selection:
    • Auto Feature: Automatically combines Cool mode and Auto fan speed. Fan speed cannot be manually selected in this mode.
    • Cool Feature: Maintains a set temperature with the compressor cycling on and off. Fan remains on continuously.
    • Dry Mode: Operates as a dehumidifier, cooling the room while reducing humidity. Fan speed is fixed at "Lo".
    • Fan Only Mode: Circulates room air without cooling. The display shows the actual room temperature. Users can select any fan speed.
    • Heat Mode (on some models): Provides heating. Fan runs continuously while heat is needed.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Use the UP (Λ) or DOWN (v) buttons to set the desired temperature.
  • Fan Speed Adjustment: Press the FAN button to cycle through Lo, Med, Hi, and Auto fan speeds. Auto fan speed adjusts based on room temperature.
  • Sleep Feature: Selects Auto fan speed. In Cool/Heat mode, the set temperature gradually increases/decreases by 2°F over 30 minutes, then another 2°F after an additional 30 minutes, maintaining this new temperature for 7 hours before returning to the original setting.
  • Timer Feature (Delay Stop/Start): Allows users to set a delay for the unit to turn on or off, in 0.5-hour increments up to 10 hours, then 1-hour increments up to 24 hours.
  • Remote Sensing Feature (on some models): Activated via the remote control in cooling mode. The remote senses the temperature at its location, allowing the unit to maintain the desired temperature more accurately based on the remote's position.
  • Light Feature: The display and LED indicators on the control panel can be turned off by pressing the "Light" button on the remote.
  • Air Directional Louvers: Slider-type louvers allow manual adjustment of airflow direction (Up/Down and Left/Right).
  • Current Device Operation: The power supply cord has a TEST and RESET button. Users must press RESET after plugging in the unit for it to operate correctly.

Maintenance Features:

  • Air Filter Cleaning: The air filter should be checked at least once a month. It can be washed with liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water, rinsed thoroughly, and dried, or vacuumed clean. A "Check Filter" reminder light illuminates after 250 hours of operation.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: The cabinet and front can be dusted with an oil-free cloth or washed with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Harsh cleaners, wax, or polish should not be used. Ensure excess water is wrung from the cloth before wiping around controls to prevent damage.
  • Winter Storage: If storing the unit for winter, it should be removed from the window, covered with plastic, or returned to its original carton.
  • Troubleshooting: A "Before You Call" section provides solutions for common issues like the unit not operating, insufficient cooling, ice formation, rapid cycling, noise, and water dripping.
  • Energy Saving Ideas: Tips include not blocking airflow, proper sizing for the room, installing on the shady side of the home, closing fireplace dampers and registers, keeping blinds and drapes closed, cleaning the air filter, ensuring proper insulation and weather stripping, external house shading, and operating heat-producing appliances during cooler parts of the day.
