Overview

This document serves as a comprehensive Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner, providing detailed instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner is designed to provide cooling and air circulation for indoor spaces. It features an electronic control panel and a remote control for convenient operation. The unit offers various modes including Cool, Fan Only, and Energy Saver (ECON), allowing users to customize their comfort settings. It also includes a Sleep feature for optimized nighttime operation and a Timer function for delayed start or stop. The air conditioner is equipped with a current detection device in its power supply cord to enhance safety by reducing the risk of fire. Air directional louvers, specifically an Auger Type, allow users to control the airflow direction (Up, Down, Left, or Right) for effective air distribution throughout the room. Some models also include a Fresh Air Vent control, enabling the unit to recirculate inside air, draw fresh air into the room, or exchange air from the room.

Usage Features

Electronic Control and Remote Control: The unit can be operated using either the touch-pad on the control panel or the provided remote control. Both offer identical functionalities.

Power On/Off: To turn the unit on or off, simply press the ON/OFF button on the control panel or remote.

Temperature Setting: Users can adjust the desired temperature between 60°F (16°C) and 90°F (32°C) using the UP (Λ) or DOWN (V) buttons. The display shows the set temperature. To view the actual room temperature, switch to "Fan Only" mode. The control also allows switching the temperature display between Fahrenheit and Celsius by pressing and holding the UP/DOWN buttons together for 3 seconds.

Fan Speeds: The unit offers multiple fan speeds (Auto, Hi, Med, Lo) which can be selected using the FAN SPEED button.

Modes of Operation:

  • Cool Mode: Provides cooling to the room.
  • Fan Only Mode: Circulates air without cooling. This is useful for room air circulation or exhausting stale air. In this mode, the display shows the actual room temperature.
  • Energy Saver (ECON) Feature: In this mode, the fan continues to run for 1 minute after the compressor shuts off, then cycles on for 20 seconds at 10-minute intervals until the room temperature rises above the set temperature, at which point the compressor restarts. This helps save energy by preventing continuous compressor operation.
  • Sleep Feature: When activated, the selected temperature will gradually increase by 2°F after 30 minutes, and then by another 2°F after an additional 30 minutes. This new temperature is maintained for 7 hours before returning to the original set temperature. The Sleep mode can be canceled at any time by pressing the "Sleep" button again.

Auto Fan Feature: When selected, the fan starts at High Speed and automatically adjusts to slower speeds as the room temperature dictates. It will increase speed if the room temperature rises quickly and return to slower speeds as the room returns to the original set temperature. Users can manually adjust fan speed even in Auto Fan mode.

Timer: Delay Stop / Start Feature: This feature allows users to set a delayed start or stop time for the unit, ranging from 0.5-hour increments up to 10 hours, and then 1-hour increments up to 24 hours. The control counts down the remaining time. For Delay Stop, the unit must be on; for Delay Start, the unit must be off. The Delay Start operation automatically selects cooling with maximum fan speed (if Cool, Energy Saver, or Fan Only was the last mode selected) and maintains the previously set temperature. Pressing the On/Off button cancels this function.

Fresh Air Vent Control (on some models): A lever allows adjustment of the vent to:

  1. Vent Closed: Recirculates inside air.
  2. Fresh Air: Draws fresh air into the room.
  3. Vent Open: Exchanges air from the room.

Safety Features: The power supply cord includes a current detection device with TEST and RESET buttons. Users should test this device upon plugging in the unit to ensure it's functioning correctly. The unit also has an automatic 3-minute time-delayed start for the compressor if turned off and on quickly, preventing overheating and circuit breaker tripping. A 2-second delay for compressor shutdown when selecting FAN ONLY is included to allow for mode selection.

Maintenance Features

Air Filter Cleaning: The air filter should be checked and cleaned at least once a month to prevent particle buildup and frost accumulation on cooling coils. To clean, push the vent handle to the Closed position, open the front panel, grasp the filter by the center, and pull it out. Wash the filter with liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water, rinse thoroughly, gently shake off excess water, and ensure it's thoroughly dry before replacing. Alternatively, the filter can be vacuumed clean. When replacing, ensure the tabs are on the upper part of the filter and placed outward.

Check Filter Feature: The unit includes a reminder feature. An LED light will illuminate after 250 hours of operation, signaling that the air filter needs cleaning. After cleaning, press the "Filter Reset" button to turn off the light.

Cabinet Cleaning: The cabinet and front panel can be dusted with an oil-free cloth or washed with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. Avoid harsh cleaners, wax, or polish. Ensure excess water is wrung from the cloth before wiping around controls to prevent damage. Always unplug the unit before cleaning to prevent shock or fire hazards.

Winter Storage: If the air conditioner is to be stored for the winter, it should be carefully removed from the window according to the installation instructions. It should then be covered with plastic or returned to its original carton.

Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive list of common occurrences and their solutions, such as the unit not operating, insufficient cooling, ice formation on coils, rapid cycling, noise, and water dripping. This guide helps users diagnose and resolve minor issues before contacting service.

Fault Codes: If the display shows "AS," it indicates a sensor failure, and users are advised to contact an Authorized Frigidaire Service Center.

Warranty Information: The manual includes details about the limited five-year warranty, outlining what is covered and excluded, and providing contact information for service in the USA and Canada.
