This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire Refrigerator, model A23655702 (July 2022). It provides instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire Refrigerator is a household appliance designed for storing food and beverages at cool temperatures. It features a freezer compartment for freezing items and a refrigerator compartment for fresh food storage. Many models include an automatic ice and water dispenser, as well as various storage features like adjustable shelves, door bins, crisper drawers, and a deli drawer. The appliance is designed with energy efficiency in mind, utilizing a variable speed compressor to maintain optimal temperatures.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Power: The appliance requires a dedicated 115 Volt, 60 Hz, 15 Amp, AC only electrical outlet. It is equipped with a 3-prong grounding plug for safety. Extension cords or adapter plugs should not be used.
  • Temperature Range: The refrigerator should not be installed where ambient temperatures will drop below 55°F (13°C) or rise above 110°F (43°C) to ensure proper compressor function.
  • Water Supply (for ice maker/dispenser models): Requires a household cold water line with water pressure between 30 and 100 psi. Copper or stainless steel braided tubing (1/4" OD) is recommended for the water supply line. A shutoff valve is necessary, and self-piercing type shutoff valves should not be used.
  • Water Filter: The PurePour PWF-1 water filter is tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401 and CSA B483.1 for reduction of specified contaminants. It has a rated capacity of 125 gallons/453 liters and a rated service flow of 0.50 gallons/min. Operating temperature range is 33°F to 100°F, with a maximum rated pressure of 100 lbs/in² and a recommended minimum operating pressure of 30 lbs/in².
  • Air Filter: The PureAir Ultra II Air Filter is designed to optimize the reduction of refrigerator odors.
  • Clearances: Allow 3/8" (9.5 mm) for sides and top, and 1" (25.4 mm) for the back for proper air circulation, plumbing, and electrical connections.

Usage Features:

  • Appliance Control Display: Located on the side door, this display allows users to monitor and adjust settings. It has Active, Inactive, and Sleep modes to prevent accidental changes.
    • Ice Maker Control: Press and hold for 3 seconds to turn the ice maker on/off.
    • Freeze Boost: Activates a faster rate for freezing food in the freezer.
    • Temperature Control: Toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius. Freezer temperatures range from -6°F (-21°C) to 4°F (-15°C). Refrigerator temperatures range from 33°F (1°C) to 43°F (7°C). A lock feature prevents accidental changes.
    • Clear Alerts: Resets active alarms such as Door Open, High Temp, and Power Out.
    • Water Filter Status: Displays GOOD, ORDER, or REPLACE. Hold for 3 seconds to reset to GOOD.
    • Air Filter Status: Displays GOOD, ORDER, or REPLACE. Hold for 3 seconds to reset to GOOD.
  • External Appliance Control Display (for dispenser models): Allows selection of water, crushed ice, or cubed ice, and toggles the dispenser light.
  • Alarms:
    • Power Out: Illuminates after power is restored, sounds a tone.
    • Door Open: Sounds an alarm and illuminates if a door is open for 5 minutes or more.
    • Water Filter/Air Filter: Indicators illuminate when replacement is needed (every 6 months or 120 gallons for water filter).
    • High Temp: Displays "HI" and sounds an alarm if the internal temperature rises above the safe zone for 20 minutes.
  • Sabbath Mode: Disables certain refrigerator functions and controls for observance of religious holidays. The display shows "Sb." The High Temp alarm remains active for health reasons.
  • Automatic Ice and Water Dispenser: Provides ice and water on demand. The ice maker automatically stops production when the bin is full. The water dispenser has a 3-minute continuous use shutoff device.
  • Storage Features:
    • Glass Shelves: Adjustable to suit individual needs.
    • Door Bins: Provide convenient storage, with some models accommodating gallon-sized containers and offering adjustable capacity.
    • Dairy Compartment: Warmer section for short-term storage of cheese, spreads, or butter.
    • Crispers: Allow flexible storage of fruits, vegetables, and nuts, featuring humidity controls.
    • Deli Drawer (some models): For storing luncheon meats, spreads, cheeses, and other deli items, without separate temperature control.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Interior & Door Liners: Clean with soap and water or a baking soda solution (2 Tbsp baking soda in 1 qt warm water). Wring out excess water from sponges/cloths.
    • Door Gaskets: Wipe with a clean soft cloth.
    • Drawers & Bins: Clean with soap and water using a soft cloth.
    • Glass Shelves: Clean with soap and water, glass cleaner, or mild liquid sprays. Allow to warm to room temperature before immersing in warm water.

Always clean with the grain to prevent scratching. Avoid commercial household cleaners containing ammonia, bleach, or alcohol.

    • PureAir Produce Keeper: Replace refill every 6 months along with the air filter.
  • Ice Maker/Dispenser Care:
    • Empty and clean the ice storage bin regularly with mild detergent and clear water.
    • Turn off the ice maker when not connected to a water supply or during extended periods (e.g., vacations).
    • If ice cubes melt and refreeze, remove and shake the bin to loosen them.
    • Never use sharp instruments to break up ice in the bin to avoid damage.
    • When removing or replacing the ice storage bin, avoid rotating the auger. If rotated, realign it by turning in 45-degree turns until the bin fits into the drive mechanism.
  • Door Removal: Instructions are provided for removing both refrigerator and freezer doors for installation or service, requiring specific tools (Phillips™ Head & Flathead Screwdriver, Adjustable Wrench, Socket Wrench Set, 3/8" Fixed Wrench, 3/32" hex key). Special attention is given to disconnecting water lines and electrical wires for the freezer door.
  • Door Handle Installation: Instructions include positioning end caps over shoulder bolts, fastening set screws with an Allen wrench, and ensuring proper alignment.
  • Leveling: The appliance must be level on the floor, with the front raised 1/4" (6 mm) above the rear to ensure proper door operation and sealing. Adjustable leveling feet are used for this. Doors should also be level with each other, adjusted using a 12 mm wrench and a 3/32" hex key.
