Questions and Answers

Overview

This document is an operating manual for a Fujitsu Inverter Heat & Cool (Reverse Cycle) Room Air Conditioner, specifically for wall-mounted types. The indoor unit model is ASTA18LCC and the outdoor unit model is AOTR18LCC.

Function Description

The Fujitsu Inverter air conditioner is designed to provide both heating and cooling, operating on a reverse cycle. It uses inverter technology, which means that at the start of operation, it uses a large amount of power to quickly reach the desired room temperature. Once the desired temperature is achieved, the unit automatically switches to a lower power setting for economic and comfortable operation, maintaining a constant temperature.

The unit features an Auto Changeover mode, where the operation mode (cooling, dry, heating) is automatically switched to maintain the set temperature. This ensures the temperature is kept constant at all times without manual intervention.

For enhanced air quality, the air conditioner includes a Polyphenol Catechin Air Cleaning Filter. This filter utilizes static electricity to capture fine particles and dust, such as tobacco smoke and plant pollen, that are too small to be seen. It contains catechin, which is effective against various bacteria by suppressing their growth. It's noted that installing this filter may slightly decrease the air conditioner's performance due to reduced airflow. Additionally, a Negative Air Ions Deodorizing Filter is present, comprising pottery super micro particles that produce negative air ions to deodorize and absorb peculiar smells in the home.

The unit also incorporates a Mildew-Resistant Filter (AIR FILTER) that has been treated to resist mildew growth, making it easier to clean and maintain.

Important Technical Specifications

The air conditioner uses R410A Refrigerant and Polyol Ester oil. A prominent caution on the manual's cover states that this product must only be installed or serviced by qualified personnel, emphasizing the need to refer to relevant legislation, regulations, codes, and manuals for installation, maintenance, and service.

The thermostat setting range for AUTO mode is 18 to 30 °C. For Heating mode, it's 16 to 30 °C, and for Cooling/Dry modes, it's 18 to 30 °C. The thermostat cannot be used to set room temperature during the FAN mode.

The operating temperature and humidity range for the outdoor unit is:

  • Cooling Mode: About -10 to 43 °C
  • Dry Mode: About -10 to 43 °C
  • Heating Mode: About -15 to 24 °C

For the indoor unit, the ranges are:

  • Cooling Mode: About 18 to 32 °C
  • Dry Mode: About 18 to 32 °C
  • Heating Mode: About 30 °C or less

The manual warns that operating outside these ranges can trigger the built-in protection circuit, potentially causing internal circuit damage. Lower temperatures in Cooling and Dry modes can lead to heat-exchanger freezing, water leakage, and other damage.

Usage Features

The air conditioner is controlled via a Wireless Remote Control Unit, allowing convenient operation from a distance of about 7 meters. A beeping sound confirms signal reception.

Key operational modes and features include:

  • Master Control Button: Used to select the desired operation mode: AUTO, COOL, DRY, HEAT, or FAN.
  • Set Temp. Button: Adjusts the thermostat setting to raise or lower the temperature.
  • Fan Control Button: Allows selection of fan speeds: AUTO, HIGH, MED, LOW, or QUIET.
  • Super Quiet Operation: When QUIET is selected, the unit operates at a reduced airflow for quieter performance. This mode is not available during Dry mode.
  • Swing Operation: The Air Flow Direction Louvers automatically swing up and down to distribute air evenly throughout the room. The vertical airflow direction is adjusted using the SET button on the remote, while horizontal (right-left) airflow is adjusted manually by moving the louvers.
  • Coil Dry Operation: This feature dries the indoor unit to prevent mold growth and inhibit bacterial breeding. It operates for 20 minutes after activation and then stops automatically.
  • Program Timer: Allows integration of OFF timer and ON timer operations in a single sequence within a 24-hour period. This can be set for one transition (OFF to ON or ON to OFF).
  • Sleep Timer: During Heating mode, the thermostat setting is gradually lowered (1 °C every 30 minutes, up to a total of 4 °C). During Cooling/Dry mode, it's gradually raised (1 °C every 60 minutes, up to a total of 2 °C). Once the set time elapses, the unit automatically turns off.
  • Manual Auto Operation: In case the remote control is lost or unavailable, the unit can be operated using the MANUAL AUTO button on the main unit control panel. This operates under the AUTO mode with a standard thermostat setting of 24 °C and AUTO fan speed.
  • Auto Restart: In the event of a power interruption, the air conditioner will automatically restart in its previous mode once power is restored. If a power failure occurs during TIMER operation, the timer will be reset, and the unit will operate at the new time setting.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides detailed instructions for cleaning and care to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the unit.

  • Intake Grille Cleaning: The intake grille can be removed by lifting it forward and opening it wide. It can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or by wiping with warm water and a clean, soft cloth.
  • Air Filter Cleaning: The air filters are easily accessible by opening the intake grille. They can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or by washing in a solution of mild detergent and warm water. After washing, they should be thoroughly dried in a shaded place before reinstallation. Regular cleaning (every two weeks during normal use) is recommended to prevent dirt accumulation, which can reduce airflow, lower operating efficiency, and increase noise.
  • Air Cleaning Filter Maintenance:
    • Polyphenol Catechin Air Cleaning Filters (UTR-FA03-2) are disposable and cannot be washed or reused. They should be exchanged approximately every three months.
    • Negative Air Ions Deodorizing Filters (UTR-FA03-3) should be exchanged approximately every three years to maintain their deodorizing effect. These filters can be cleaned every three months by flushing with high-pressure hot water (and diluent neutral detergent if needed), rinsing, and drying in the shade. It's crucial not to rub or ream them to avoid damage.

Before any cleaning, it is essential to turn off the air conditioner and disconnect the power supply cord to prevent electric shock. When removing or replacing air filters, care must be taken not to touch the heat exchanger to avoid personal injury.

For extended periods of non-use (one month or more), it's recommended to operate the fan mode continuously for about half a day to thoroughly dry internal parts. The manual also advises against using water hotter than 40 °C, harsh abrasive cleansers, or volatile agents like benzene or thinner for cleaning the unit's body, and to avoid exposing it to liquid insecticides or hairsprays.

The manual also includes troubleshooting tips for common issues like the unit not operating, noise, smells, mist/steam emission, and weak airflow, directing users to relevant sections for solutions. It also reminds users that the unit consumes 20-40W even when turned off if the power plug is not disconnected, recommending unplugging for energy saving during long periods of non-use.
