Overview

This document is an operating manual for a Fujitsu Halcyon Air Conditioner, specifically for duct-type models. It covers various aspects of the air conditioner's function, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Fujitsu Halcyon air conditioner utilizes an INVERTER system, which allows it to operate at maximum capacity during startup to quickly reach the desired room temperature. Once the set temperature is approached, the system reduces its capacity and energy usage to a minimum, optimizing efficiency.

The unit offers an ECONOMY OPERATION mode, which slightly adjusts the room temperature set points (higher in cooling, lower in heating) to save energy compared to normal modes.

An AUTO CHANGEOVER function automatically switches between cooling and heating modes to maintain a constant set temperature.

The WEEKLY TIMER allows users to program operating times for each day of the week, including a "Day off" setting to disable timed operation. This feature can be set for all days, enabling repetitive timer settings.

The air conditioner supports both WIRED REMOTE CONTROLLER (OPTION) and WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROLLER (OPTION) for convenient control of the indoor unit. Additionally, WIRELESS LAN CONTROL (OPTION) is available for enhanced connectivity.

Operating Modes:

  • Auto Mode (Cooling Model): When selected, the fan operates at a very low speed for a few minutes while the indoor unit detects room conditions. It then selects the appropriate mode: Cooling if the room temperature is higher than the defined temperature setting, or Monitor operation if it's close to or lower than the defined temperature setting. During monitor operation, the fan runs at low speed. If the room temperature changes, the unit will readjust. Users can manually select Cooling, Dry, or Fan if the automatically selected mode is not desired.
  • Auto Mode (Heating and Cooling Model - Reverse Cycle): Similar to the cooling model, the air conditioner selects the appropriate operation mode (Cooling or Heating) based on the room's present temperature. If the room temperature is higher than the defined temperature setting, it enters Cooling mode. If it's close to the defined temperature, the mode is determined by the outdoor temperature. If it's lower than the defined temperature, it enters Heating mode. Monitor operation also occurs, with the fan running at low speed. Users can manually select Heating, Cooling, Dry, or Fan if the automatically selected mode is not desired.
  • Heat Mode: Used to warm the room. When selected, the unit operates at a very low fan speed for 3 to 5 minutes to warm up before full operation. In low outdoor temperatures, frost may form on the outdoor unit, reducing performance. The unit automatically enters a defrost cycle (up to 15 minutes) to remove frost, during which heating operation is interrupted and the indoor fan shuts down. After heating operation starts, it takes some time for the room to warm up. The indoor unit prevents cold drafts at the start of heating by operating the fan at a very low speed until the heat exchanger reaches the set temperature ("Hot start").
  • Cool Mode: Used to cool the room.
  • Dry Mode: Provides gentle cooling while dehumidifying the room. Heating is not possible in this mode. The unit operates at low speed, and the indoor unit's fan may stop intermittently to adjust humidity. Fan speed cannot be manually changed in Dry mode.
  • Fan Mode: Circulates air throughout the room without heating or cooling.

Important Technical Specifications & Features:

  • Heating Performance: The unit operates on a heat-pump principle, drawing heat from outdoor air. Performance may be reduced as outdoor temperatures drop. Proper sizing for the room is crucial. Heat-pump air conditioners heat by recirculating air, so it may take time to heat the room initially.
  • Microcomputer-controlled automatic defrosting: This function prevents performance reduction due to frost formation on the outdoor unit during low outdoor temperature and high humidity conditions in Heating mode.
  • Low Ambient Cooling: When outdoor temperature drops, the outdoor unit's fans may switch to low speed or stop intermittently.
  • Fan Speed Control: Options include AUTO, HIGH, MED, LOW, and QUIET. In AUTO, fan speed adjusts based on the operation mode. In Heating, the fan operates at very low speed when the air temperature from the indoor unit is low. In Cooling, fan speed slows as room temperature approaches the set temperature. In Fan mode, the fan runs at medium speed.
  • Auto Restart: In case of a power interruption, the air conditioner automatically restarts in the previously selected mode once power is restored.
  • Multiple Remote Controller (Optional): Up to two remote controllers can be added. The timer functions are not available on the secondary unit.
  • Group Control: One remote controller can control up to 16 air conditioners, all operating with the same settings.

Usage Features:

  • Thermostat Settings: For Heating mode, set the thermostat higher than the current room temperature. For Cooling/Dry mode, set it lower than the current room temperature. In Fan mode, heating or cooling is not possible.
  • Economy Operation: Provides approximately 70% of normal air conditioner operation for cooling and heating. If the room is not adequately cooled/heated, switch to normal operation.
  • Power Interruption: Other electrical appliances or wireless radio transmitters nearby may cause malfunction. In such cases, temporarily disconnect and reconnect power, then use the remote controller to resume operation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always stop the unit and disconnect power before cleaning. Turn off the electrical breaker.
    • The fan operates at high speed inside the unit, posing a risk of injury.
    • Filter cleaning may involve working at heights; consult authorized service personnel.
    • Do not expose the unit to liquid insecticides or hairsprays.
    • Do not use water hotter than 104°F (40°C), harsh abrasive cleansers, or volatile agents like benzene or thinner.
    • If the unit will not be used for a month or more, operate it in Fan mode for half a day to thoroughly dry the inner parts.
  • Regular Inspection: For extended periods of use, dirt may accumulate inside, reducing performance. Regular inspections by authorized service personnel are recommended in addition to user cleaning.
  • Filter Sign (NOTES): This function allows selecting appropriate intervals for displaying a filter sign on the indoor unit based on the estimated dust in the room. Consult authorized service personnel for using this function. Refer to the remote controller's operating manual for detailed instructions.

Troubleshooting (NORMAL FUNCTION & CHECK ONCE MORE):

  • Does not operate immediately: Compressor may not operate for about 3 minutes after stopping and restarting to prevent fuse blowouts. Protection circuit operates for about 3 minutes after turning the electrical breaker off and on again.
  • Noise is heard: Sound of water flowing in piping during/after operation, especially noticeable for 2-3 minutes after starting (coolant flowing). Sizzling sound during Heating operation is normal due to Automatic defrosting.
  • Smells: Some smell from the indoor unit is normal, resulting from room smells (furniture, tobacco, etc.) absorbed by the air conditioner.
  • Mist or steam are emitted: Thin mist during Cooling/Dry operation is normal due to condensation from sudden cooling of room air. Steam rising from the outdoor unit during Heating operation is normal due to Automatic defrosting.
  • Humidity does not drop: In Dry operation, humidity may not drop in some room conditions. Set a lower room temperature to lower humidity.
  • Air flow is weak or stops: Indoor unit fan may start later or stop when the outdoor unit is not operating due to energy-saving control. This function can be disabled (except in Auto fan mode). During Heating, fan speed is temporarily low to warm internal parts. If room temperature rises above thermostat setting in Heating, outdoor unit stops, and indoor unit operates at very low speed. Unit temporarily stops operation (max 15 min) during Automatic defrosting. Fan may operate at very low speed during Dry operation, room monitoring, or Quiet operation. Fan operates at very low speed in monitor Auto operation.
  • Water is produced from the outdoor unit: Normal during Heating operation due to Automatic defrosting.
  • Does not operate at all: Check if the circuit breaker is off, if there was a power failure, if a fuse blew or breaker tripped, or if the timer is operating.
  • Poor cooling (or heating) performance: Check if the air filter is dirty, if intake grille or outlet port is blocked, if room temperature settings are correct, if a window or door is open, if bright sunlight enters (in Cooling), if heating apparatus or computers are inside the room (in Cooling), if there are too many people in the room, if Quiet operation is set, or if Economy mode is active.

If problems persist or burning smells are noticed, stop operation, disconnect power, and consult authorized service personnel.
