Overview

This document describes the SS91BV-M / SS1204AV-M GSM/WCDMA Intercom, an access control system designed to replace traditional door phones. It allows users to communicate with visitors at an entrance from a remote location via a mobile call and control access points.

Function Description

The GSM Intercom SS91BV-M is an intercom system installed at a building's entrance. When a visitor presses the call button, the intercom establishes a mobile call with a pre-stored phone number. If the first number is busy or unanswered, the call diverts to subsequent numbers. During the call, the user can activate a relay to open a door or gate by pressing '*' on their mobile phone. The relay switches can also be temporarily or permanently switched on or off by pressing '#' and '1'.

The system offers three modes accessible via dial-in:

  1. Listener Monitoring Mode: Allows the user to hear the live sound of the intercom's surrounding environment. The speaker is off by default but can be turned on by pressing "35#". Relay output can still be controlled in this mode if the speaker is on.
  2. Access Control Mode: Allows the door to be opened by entering a correct password. This is useful for numbers not stored in the access control section.
  3. Programming Mode: Enables customization of system settings and management of telephone numbers. Programming can be done by dial-in or text message (SMS).

Important Technical Specifications

  • Operating Voltage: 12 to 24 Volt AC/DC
  • Operating Current: Maximum 250 mA, Typically 55mA
  • GSM/WCDMA Module: Cinterion / Simcom
  • GSM / WCDMA Frequency: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz, WCDMA 850/1900 or 900/2100 Mhz
  • Physical Size: Face plate: 170 x 100 mm, Stainless cabinet: 174 x 113 x 65 mm
  • Length of Antenna Cable: 3 meters
  • Humidity: Less than 80% RH
  • Operating Temperature: -20°C to 50°C

The device supports up to 100 telephone numbers for "ring in to open" functionality. It also supports storing up to 3 call button phone numbers.

Usage Features

Installation: The GSM Intercom is suitable for both flush and surface mounting. For surface mounting, a plastic enclosure must be removed before fitting the main station into the stainless steel cabinet.

SIM Card and Antenna: Before use, the SIM card must be registered with the network, have calling credit, and have its PIN request removed. The SIM card should be inserted with the power off. The external antenna should be installed as high as possible on a pillar for optimal reception.

LED Indicators:

  • Intercom Status (Yellow): Flashing when standby, Solid when in use.
  • Network (Green): Flashes once per 3 seconds when ready, Flashes once per second when searching, Solid when busy.
  • Power (Red): Solid when power is on, Off when power is off.

Door/Gate Release (Ring in to Open): The intercom allows access via two methods:

  1. Caller ID Recognition: Up to 100 authorized mobile numbers can be programmed. When a call is received from an authorized number, the intercom drops the call and opens the gate/door without answering, incurring no call charges.
  2. Access Control Password Mode: Dial the SIM card number, wait for a beep, and then enter a password to trigger, latch, or unlatch the door.

Programming by Text Message (SMS): This is the simplest way to customize settings and manage numbers. SMS commands must start with the passcode (default 1234) in the format *12*1234# followed by the command. A single SMS is limited to 140 characters, and multiple commands can be included in one message. Country codes should not be entered for call button numbers, but are required for dial-in door release numbers.

User Commands (SMS):

  • *20#: Check GSM signal strength (replies with signal level 0-31 and service provider name).
  • *21#: Check stored numbers (replies with lists of call button numbers and dial-in to open numbers).

Maintenance Features

Troubleshooting:

  • Bleeping from door station: Indicates inability to detect the network. Check SIM card activation, credit, PIN request, type (standard GSM, not 3G/4G only), reception, antenna mounting, and connection.
  • Insufficient time to answer before diverting: Increase "no answer time" in programming.
  • Voicemail before second number rings: Decrease "no answer time" in programming.
  • Caller ID not working: Ensure the number is programmed under feature 72 and is not private/withheld.
  • No audio from gate (person at gate can hear): Check reception level (*20#), consider changing SIM card/network, or purchasing a high-gain antenna.
  • Poor audio quality/humming: May be due to GSM buzz. Try earthing the speech panel chassis to 0V, ensure antenna is not too close to the speech panel or mounted high enough. Also a symptom of poor reception.
  • * or # key not working during call: Check if relay clicks at the gate. If so, check wiring. If not, try a different mobile/landline. Check DTMF tone settings on the phone. May also be a symptom of low reception; try pressing buttons longer.

Resetting Hardware: To reset the hardware if the password is forgotten:

  1. Keep the red reset button pressed.
  2. Press the egress button.
  3. Release all buttons after hearing continuous "Dou" tones.
  4. Hardware reset is complete.

The device has a time clock that supports automatic date and time updates via NITZ information from the network. If NITZ is unavailable, it is recommended to set up the SIM card number for time correction to ensure accurate logging of dial-in numbers.
