Usage Features
The microwave offers a user-friendly control panel with a display for time, cooking status, and other information.
Basic Cooking:
- Time Cook: Allows users to manually enter a desired cooking time and select from 10 power levels (0-10). For example, to cook for 3 minutes and 15 seconds, one would press "Time Cook" then "3", "1", "5". Power levels can be adjusted during cooking.
- Quick Cooking (Start button): Initiates cooking at 100% power for 30 seconds with a single press. Repeated presses add 30-second increments (up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds), except for Auto Cook and 1LB Defrost functions.
- Two-Stage Cooking: Supports programming two different cook times and power levels sequentially.
Defrosting:
- Weight Defrost: Automatically calculates defrosting time based on the entered weight (1-96 ounces). The microwave pauses during defrosting to prompt the user to turn the food for even thawing.
- Time Defrost: Allows manual entry of defrosting time (00:01-99:99). Similar to weight defrost, it pauses for food turning.
- 1LB Defrost: A quick function to defrost one pound (16 oz.) of food.
Auto Menu Cooking:
- Auto Cook Settings: Includes preset options for Pizza, Potato, Reheat, Popcorn, Beverage, Veggies, Cheese, Meat, and Butter. Users select the food item and, for some items, the quantity or weight using the number pad.
- Kids' Meals: Specific settings for cooking hot dogs, frozen sandwiches, chicken nuggets, and french fries, with options for quantity or weight.
Convenience Features:
- Clock/Timer: Sets the 12-hour or 24-hour clock and functions as a kitchen timer (up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds).
- Turntable On/Off: Allows the user to turn the glass turntable on or off during cooking. The turntable is on by default and ensures even cooking.
- Light: Controls the task lighting located underneath the microwave, illuminating the cooktop.
- Vent Fan: Activates the exhaust fan at low or high speed to remove cooking odors and smoke. The fan automatically starts at low speed during cooking to protect the microwave from excessive temperatures and cannot be manually turned off during this time.
- Eco Mode (Energy Saver): Puts the microwave in a low power consumption mode, turning off the display, cooking lights, and fans. Pressing any button awakens the display to standby mode.
- Child Lock: Locks the microwave to prevent unintended operation. Activated by pressing and holding "Stop" for three seconds.
Safety Features:
- Safety Interlock System: Prevents the microwave from operating when the door is open.
- Warning for liquids: Liquids can be overheated beyond boiling point without visible bubbling; stirring before and halfway through heating, using wide-necked containers, and allowing to stand after heating are recommended to prevent sudden boiling over.
- Cookware and Materials Guidelines: Provides detailed lists of microwave-safe materials and materials to avoid, along with a test for new cookware.
Maintenance Features
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the microwave's performance and longevity.
Cleaning:
- Exterior: Clean with mild soap and water, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Door: Wipe the window with a damp cloth. Metal parts should be wiped frequently. Avoid harsh cleaners that may stain or dull the surface.
- Control Panel: Wipe with a damp cloth (water only) when the door is open. Do not scrub or use chemical cleaners.
- Interior: Wipe with a soft cloth and warm water. For baked-on food, use baking soda or mild soap.
- Waveguide Cover: Located on the ceiling, it should be kept clean by wiping food spatters immediately with a damp cloth. It is made of mica and should NOT be removed.
- Odor Removal: A mixture of water, lemon peel and juice, and cloves can be boiled in the microwave to eliminate cooking odors.
- Turntable and Support: Remove and wash with mild, sudsy water or in the top rack of a dishwasher. The turntable motor shaft should be wiped immediately if spills occur.
Filter Replacement:
- Grease Filters: Located at the bottom of the microwave, these should be cleaned at least once a month. They are removed by pulling down on a tab, soaked in hot water and detergent, scrubbed, rinsed, and dried before reinstallation. Ammonia or other alkalis should not be used as they can damage the filter material.
- Charcoal Filter: Used for non-vented, recirculated installations, this filter should be changed every 6 to 12 months. Replacement involves disconnecting power, removing louver mounting screws, pulling the louver away, replacing the filter (ensuring wire mesh is visible from the front), and reassembling.
Light Bulb Replacement:
- Countertop Light (Exterior): Disconnect power, remove the screw holding the light cover, replace the bulb (max 30 watts), and reattach the cover. The light cover can be very hot.
- Microwave Light (Interior): Disconnect power, remove louver mounting screws, pull the louver away, open the light cover behind the filter by removing its screw, replace the bulb (max 30 watts), and reassemble the light cover and louver.
