The GARDENA Electric Hedge Trimmer, available in models EHT 410 (Art. 2591) and EHT 480 (Art. 2592), is designed for cutting hedges in domestic gardens and allotments. It is not intended for cutting lawns, grass verges, or for shredding for composting due to the risk of physical injuries.
Function Description:
The hedge trimmer operates with a two-hand safety switch to prevent accidental activation. To start, both start buttons on the guide handle and the grip at the end of the handle must be pressed simultaneously. Releasing either button stops the blades within 1 second. An impact protection guide prevents kick-back if the trimmer hits a solid object. A safety clutch (slip-clutch) protects the motor, gear, and blades from mechanical damage if the blades jam. In such an event, the trimmer should be disconnected from the power supply, and the object removed. The device is designed for ergonomic use, with recommendations for holding the grip at the end of the handle for high hedges, low hedges, and cutting the sides of hedges. A belt clip is also suggested for use.

Usage Features:
- Safety First: Users under 16 and those unfamiliar with the instructions should not use the trimmer. Persons with reduced physical or mental abilities may use it only under supervision or instruction.
- Pre-Operation Checks: Before each use, inspect the unit for damage to safety devices (two-hand switch, blade stop, impact protection) or blades. Never bypass safety devices. Inspect the cutting area for foreign objects and remove them.
- Working Environment: Work only when visibility is good. Do not use in rain or damp/wet areas, or near swimming pools and garden ponds. Keep others (especially children and animals) away from the working area.

Never carry the trimmer by its cable. For outdoor use, only use waterproof extension cables designed for outdoor use, and a residual-current device (≤ 30 mA) is recommended (obligatory in Switzerland).
- Overload Prevention: Do not overload the hedge trimmer; operate within its specified power consumption for better and safer performance.
- Concentration: Work with care and concentration, keeping the work area tidy to prevent accidents.
- Motor Casing and Ventilation: Keep clear of obstructions, leaves, and other debris.
- Flammable Materials: Do not use near flammable liquids and gases.
- Stopping Work: If stopping work, always switch off the trimmer and disconnect the mains plug. Store the trimmer in a safe place with blade protection attached.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning Blades: After each use, clean the blades and lubricate them with a low-viscosity oil (e.g., spray-oil). Do not clean with water or under running water to avoid corrosion.
- Storage: Store the hedge trimmer in a dry place, away from frost, with the blade protection on. Keep out of reach of children.
- Damage Inspection: Regularly inspect cutting devices for damage and ensure all damage is repaired immediately by GARDENA Service Centres or authorised dealers.
- Cable Inspection: Regularly check the power cable for damage and wear. It must only be exchanged by an authorised electrician. If the mains or extension cable is damaged, disconnect the mains plug immediately.
- Safety Clutch: The safety clutch is a strong spring-loaded device and must not be disassembled.
- Disposal: The product must not be disposed of with normal household waste. It must be disposed of via a municipal recycling collection centre in line with local environmental regulations.
