This cordless power tool is specifically intended for cutting limbs up to 8 cm in diameter. It is not designed for felling trees or for long-term professional use. The pole pruner offers a range of features that enhance safety, ease of use, and maintenance, making it a reliable choice for garden care.
The primary function of the GARDENA Battery Pole Pruner is to cut branches at various heights and angles, thanks to its telescopic handle and adjustable motor unit. It operates on a lithium-ion battery, part of the POWER FOR ALL system, ensuring cordless convenience and flexibility. The pole pruner is equipped with a chain and bar system that requires regular lubrication with chain oil to ensure optimal cutting performance and chain longevity. The device incorporates safety features such as a two-switch safety device (start lever with starting lockout) to prevent accidental activation. The battery charge status is indicated on the product, allowing users to monitor power levels during operation.
The GARDENA Battery Pole Pruner is designed for user comfort and adaptability. The oil lubrication system can be checked by pointing the bar at a bright wood cutting surface and operating the machine for one minute; clear traces of oil should be visible. It is crucial to prevent the bar from contacting sand or soil, as this can lead to increased chain wear.
When cutting, the pole pruner can be used in two working positions: above and below. For thick branches, it is recommended to saw from below for about 1/3 of the diameter, then saw off the branch from above. When sawing below, the chain pulls to the rear stop.
To start the pole pruner, the battery is inserted into the holder, the protective cover is removed from the bar, and the user holds the pole pruner with both hands on the insulated gripping surfaces. The starting lockout is slid forward, and the start lever is pulled. Releasing the start lever stops the pole pruner.

The battery and charger contacts and ventilation slots should also be kept clean and dry, using a soft, dry cloth or brush.
Chain tensioning is critical for performance and safety. A too-tight chain can overload the motor, while a loose chain can jump off the rail. The chain tension should be checked regularly, especially when the chain is new or has been used for a few minutes. To tension the chain, the two screws securing the cover are loosened, the chain is lifted in the middle of the bar to check for a 2-3 mm gap, and the adjusting screw is turned clockwise to increase tension or counterclockwise to decrease it. The screws are then retightened, and the pole pruner is run for about 10 seconds before rechecking the tension. It is important to allow the chain to cool down before tensioning.
When the cutting performance significantly reduces due to a dull chain, the chain must be replaced. The Allen key for the screws is conveniently stored inside the protective cover. Only original GARDENA Spare Chains and Bars (Art. 4048 or Art. 4049) should be used. The replacement process involves unscrewing the two screws, removing the cover, taking off the old bar and chain, cleaning the components, and then installing the new chain and bar. It is crucial to ensure the chain runs in the correct direction and that the front stop points upwards. The cover is then replaced, and the screws are tightened, followed by chain tensioning.
For storage, the protective cover should be slid onto the bar, the battery removed and charged, and the pole pruner, battery, and charger cleaned. The product should be stored in a dry, enclosed, and frost-free place, away from children.
