XS Series Subwoofer Installation Instructions
Important Safety Information
WARNING
See the Important Safety and Product Information guide in the product box for product warnings and other
important information.
This device must be installed according to these instructions.
Disconnect the vessel's power supply before beginning to install this device.
CAUTION
Continuous exposure to sound pressure levels over 100 dBA may cause permanent hearing loss. The volume is
typically too loud if you cannot hear people speaking around you. Limit the amount of time you listen at high
volume. If you experience ringing in your ears or muffled speech, stop listening and have your hearing checked.
Always wear safety goggles, ear protection, and a dust mask when drilling, cutting, or sanding.
NOTICE
When drilling or cutting, always check what is on the opposite side of the surface.
It is strongly recommended that you have your audio system installed by a professional installer to ensure
optimum performance.
You must read all installation instructions before beginning the installation. If you experience difficulty during
the installation, go to support.garmin.com for product support.
After installing an audio system, you should run the connected speakers and subwoofers at low to medium
volumes for the first few hours of use. This helps to improve the overall sound by gradually loosening up the
moving components of new speakers and subwoofers, such as the cone, spider, and surround.

Overview

The FUSION XS Series Subwoofer is a marine-grade audio device designed to enhance the bass performance of your vessel's sound system. It is built to withstand harsh marine environments and offers features for both standard audio setups and more advanced configurations, including LED lighting on sports models.

Function Description

The primary function of the XS Series Subwoofer is to reproduce low-frequency sounds (bass) to complement your existing marine audio system. It features a dual 2 Ohm voice coil, pre-configured for 4 Ohm operation, which can be reconfigured for 2.1 operation when connected to a compatible FUSION stereo with DSP capability, such as an Apollo RA770. This allows for a two-speaker and one-subwoofer setup, optimizing sound distribution and control.

For sports models, the subwoofer includes integrated RGB LED lighting, allowing users to customize the aesthetic of their audio installation. These LEDs can be connected for a single dedicated color or controlled via an optional remote for dynamic lighting effects, including on/off control and color changes.

Usage Features

The subwoofer is designed for flexible installation, with considerations for optimal sound performance. It can be mounted in various locations, with recommendations for enclosed areas to achieve better bass. For installations where the subwoofer is exposed to the outside environment, it should be mounted in a sealed enclosure, well above the waterline, and in a location protected from physical damage.

When connecting the subwoofer, it's crucial to observe polarity and use appropriate marine-grade wiring (12 AWG for speakers, 20 AWG for LEDs). The subwoofer's leads are terminated with male spade connectors, requiring female spade connectors for optimal connection to speaker wires. For LED wiring, the black wire is a positive connection, and various color wires connect to ground to achieve specific LED colors. An optional FUSION LED voltage regulator (SG-VREGLED) can be installed to prevent LEDs from pulsing with bass notes.

Sound optimization is a key feature, allowing users to run the subwoofer "out of phase" from the main speakers. This involves temporarily switching the positive and negative connections at the amplifier or source. If running out of phase provides a better perception of bass coming from the speakers rather than directly from the subwoofer, then this configuration is correct for the system. This fine-tuning helps achieve a more integrated and immersive audio experience.

The device is part of FUSION's True-Marine™ product line, signifying its design for durability and reliability in marine conditions. True-Marine products undergo rigorous environmental testing to ensure they surpass industry guidelines for marine products, offering a robust and long-lasting entertainment solution.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance of the XS Series Subwoofer is straightforward, focusing on cleaning and troubleshooting common issues. For cleaning, it's important to use only fresh water and a mild detergent. Harsh or solvent-based cleaners should be avoided as they can damage the product and void the warranty. After exposure to saltwater, the grille should be cleaned with a damp cloth soaked in fresh water to remove salt residue. For heavier buildup or stains, a mild detergent can be used.

The subwoofer is rated IP65 for protection against dust and water ingress from the front when correctly mounted. However, it is not designed to withstand high-pressure water spray, such as during vessel wash-downs, as this can damage the product and void the warranty. Water exposure and damage to the rear of the subwoofer also void the warranty, emphasizing the importance of proper installation, especially in exposed locations.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common problems. If there is no sound, users should verify all connections to the proper terminals. If the system lacks bass, ensuring the subwoofer is firmly attached to the mounting surface is recommended. For distorted audio, checking for rattling panels around the subwoofer and verifying correct amplifier connections and input/output levels are crucial steps. If the LED lights do not turn on, all wiring connections should be checked for correctness and tightness. If the LEDs pulse with bass notes, installing a FUSION LED voltage regulator is the recommended solution. For more complex issues, contacting a FUSION dealer or service center, especially if the installation was performed by a professional, is advised. The product is backed by a FUSION 3-year worldwide limited consumer warranty, further highlighting its reliability and the manufacturer's commitment to quality.
