Overview

The GASTROBACK® Design Coffee Grinder Basic (Art.-Nr. 42601) is an electric appliance designed for grinding whole coffee beans for household use. It features a stainless steel blade system and motor housing, ensuring durability and efficient operation. The grinder is equipped with a transparent lid and a removable, easy-to-clean grinding bowl that can hold up to 90g of coffee beans.

Function Description

The primary function of this appliance is to grind whole coffee beans into various fineness settings, suitable for different brewing methods. It operates by means of a touch-activated on/off button and includes a grind selector control with five fineness settings, ranging from coarse to super fine. An advanced intelligent timer allows users to select the desired amount of coffee to be ground, from a minimum of 2 cups to a maximum of 12 cups. The grinding time automatically adjusts based on the selected fineness and cup quantity.

The grinder incorporates a circuit breaker and safety mechanisms to ensure proper operation. It will not operate unless the grinding bowl and the lid are securely locked in position. This prevents accidental activation and ensures user safety. The motor is designed to stop automatically once the grinding cycle is complete. For safety, it is crucial to only remove the lid after the blade has completely stopped moving.

Usage Features

Before first use, and after any period of storage, the appliance should be cleaned with a damp soft cloth and warm soapy water, then thoroughly dried. Assembling the appliance involves aligning the grinding bowl with the motor housing and turning it clockwise to lock it in place, indicated by a clicking sound. Similarly, the lid is placed onto the grinding bowl, aligned, and turned clockwise until it locks, with the align symbol positioned correctly.

To use, whole coffee beans are poured directly into the removable grinding bowl, filling it to the desired level, but not exceeding the "MAX 12" fill mark. Overfilling should be avoided to prevent overloading and potential overheating. Once the lid is securely locked, the grind selector control is rotated to choose the desired fineness. The advanced intelligent timer is then set by selecting the number of cups.

The grind selector control offers specific settings for various coffee preparations:

  • Coarse: For coffee in a percolator.
  • First mark (medium grained): For coffee in a plunger.
  • Second mark (fine grained): For filter coffee.
  • Third mark (extra fine grained): For espresso, latte macchiato, cappuccino.
  • Fine (super fine grained): For Turkish coffee.

After setting the fineness and cup quantity, the power plug is slowly released from its storage position and inserted into a 230/240V power outlet. The on/off button is pressed and released to start grinding. The grinder will automatically stop when the cycle is complete. To stop grinding at any time, the on/off button can be pressed again. However, pressing it again will restart the timed cycle from the beginning.

It is important not to operate the appliance for longer than 1 minute at a time to prevent overheating. After each use, it should be allowed to cool for a few minutes, and for extended continuous operation, a cooling period of 10-15 minutes is recommended.

After grinding, the appliance should be unplugged. The lid is removed by turning it counterclockwise and lifting it straight up. The grinding bowl is then twisted counterclockwise and lifted to unlock, allowing the ground coffee to be emptied into an airtight container for storage.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the appliance. Before cleaning, the grinder must always be unplugged, and the motor allowed to stop completely. The lid and the removable grinding bowl can be washed in warm soapy water, rinsed, and dried thoroughly. These parts should not be placed in an automatic dishwasher.

The motor housing and power cord should be wiped with a damp soft cloth. It is crucial not to immerse the motor housing or power cord in water or any other liquid, nor to pour or drip liquids onto them. If liquids are spilled on the motor housing, the appliance must be immediately unplugged and the motor housing dried to avoid electric shock or fire. The grinding gear should not be damaged, and nothing should be poked into the motor housing; a soft brush can be used for cleaning if necessary. After cleaning, the motor housing should be thoroughly dried before reassembling the appliance.

For storage, the appliance should be clean, dry, and stored in a safe place away from frost, direct sunlight, and any mechanical or electric shock, heat, or moisture. It should be placed on a clean, stable surface where it cannot fall, and no heavy objects should be placed on it. The appliance also features tidy cord storage on the back, with a winding wheel for convenient cord management. Non-slip feet provide stability during use.

In case of any damage, malfunction, or if the motor stalls or gets stuck, the appliance should be turned off, unplugged, and taken to an authorized service center for examination and repair. Attempting to repair the appliance or its power cord by unauthorized personnel is not recommended.
