Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the GASTROBACK® Design Coffee Grinder Advanced, Art.-Nr. 42602.

Function Description

The GASTROBACK® Design Coffee Grinder Advanced is an appliance designed for grinding whole coffee beans or spices. It features a conical burr grinding mechanism that allows for precise control over the fineness of the grind, catering to various coffee preparation methods. The device is equipped with a timer selector dial to set the desired grinding duration, and a start/stop button for operation control. It also includes a safety circuit breaker that prevents operation if the coffee bean container or ground coffee container is not properly positioned. The appliance is intended for household use only.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Voltage Requirements: 220/230 V, 50 Hz, AC.
  • Power Supply: Requires connection to a mains power supply wall socket with a protective conductor (earth/ground).
  • Residual Current Safety Switch: A residual current safety switch with a maximum rated residual operating current of 30 mA in the supplying electrical circuit is strongly recommended.
  • Coffee Bean Container Capacity: Holds up to 170 g of coffee beans.
  • Grinding Time: Adjustable via a Time Selector Dial, with settings up to 30 seconds.
  • Maximum Continuous Operation: 2 minutes.
  • Cool-down Period: At least 2 minutes after each use, and 10-15 minutes after long operation.

Usage Features

Assembly and Initial Setup:

  1. Placement: Operate the appliance on a well-accessible, stable, level, dry, and suitable large surface, away from hot surfaces, direct sunlight, and sharp edges.
  2. Coffee Bean Container: Place the Coffee Bean Container into the Grinding Chamber, aligning the 'Align' arrow symbol on the container with the 'Align' arrow symbol on the Grinder Base. Turn clockwise to lock.
  3. Grind Selector Control: Rotate the Bean Container clockwise to select the desired fineness of grind (e.g., Coarse - Percolator, Medium - Plunger, Fine - Filter, Extra Fine - Espresso, Super Fine - Turkish). This setting can only be changed while the motor is running if the container is filled with beans.
  4. Ground Coffee Container: Place the Ground Coffee Container into position, ensuring it is locked and aligned with the motor housing.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the grinder into a 230/240V power outlet. The appliance will not turn on if the containers are not in proper position due to the circuit breaker.

Operation:

  1. Filling: Measure the desired quantity of whole coffee beans or spices directly into the Coffee Bean Container and cover with the lid. Do not overfill; observe the 'MAX FILL' mark. Ensure the container is securely locked before filling, as its bottom is open.
  2. Power On: Turn the Power ON-/OFF-switch to 'ON'.
  3. Grinding Time Selection: Rotate the Time Selector Dial to select the desired grinding time (e.g., 10, 20, 30 seconds). The optimal time depends on bean type, amount, fineness, and personal preference.
  4. Start Grinding: Press the 'START' button to begin grinding. The grinder will automatically stop when the timed cycle is complete.
  5. Stopping Grinding: To stop grinding at any time, push the Start-/Stop-button again, or turn the Power ON-/OFF-switch to 'OFF', or rotate the Timer Selector Dial to '0'.
  6. Emptying: After grinding, remove the Ground Coffee Container by pulling it out from the left-hand side. Remember to empty the Coffee Container regularly.
  7. Refilling: Always turn the appliance 'OFF' and wait for the motor to stop before refilling the Coffee Bean Container or taking off the lid. Only refill when the container is securely locked on the motor housing.

Grind Selector Control Details:

  • Coarse - Percolator: Coarse-grained for percolator coffee.
  • Medium - Plunger: Medium-grained for plunger coffee.
  • Fine - Filter: Fine-grained for filter coffee.
  • Extra Fine - Espresso: Extra fine-grained for espresso, latte macchiato, cappuccino.
  • Super Fine - Turkish: Super fine-grained for Turkish coffee.

Important Usage Notes:

  • Overheating Prevention: Do not operate for longer than 2 minutes at a time. Allow for cool-down periods.
  • Foreign Substances: Never insert fingers, wooden/plastic spoons, or other foreign substances into the Coffee Bean Container when the motor is running or the appliance is connected to power.
  • Motor Stalling: If the motor stalls or gets stuck, turn the appliance 'OFF' immediately to prevent overheating. Do not use force.
  • Food Restrictions: The grinder will not grind sticky or extremely hard foods like chocolate, cheese, whole nutmeg, candied fruits, or make pastes of fruits, seeds, or herbs.
  • Movement: Do not move the appliance while operating.
  • Unattended Operation: Never leave the appliance unattended when connected to the power outlet. Always unplug it after use or before cleaning/assembly/disassembly.
