Overview

The GASTROBACK Latte Magic is a versatile milk frother designed to prepare delicious silky milk froth for various coffee specialties and other treats. Available in both black and white, this appliance offers both hot and cold frothing capabilities, as well as a milk heating function. Its user-friendly design and safety features make it suitable for household use.

Function Description

The Latte Magic is primarily designed for frothing and heating milk and milk alternatives. It can produce hot and cold milk froth in a short amount of time, transforming approximately 150 ml of milk into up to 350 ml of creamy milk froth. The appliance is equipped with an integrated heating function that automatically heats the milk, ensuring it reaches the desired temperature without burning, thanks to its thermodynamically controlled system. For those who prefer cold beverages or toppings for desserts, a dedicated cold-frothing function is available. Additionally, the Latte Magic can simply heat milk without frothing, making it suitable for various preparations.

The frothing mechanism utilizes a magnetic drive system, which ensures quiet operation and easy handling without a direct drive coupling. This contact-less magnetic drive also eliminates the need for a drive shaft opening in the jug, simplifying cleaning and preventing leaks. The appliance features a "Soft-Touch" Start/Stop button that illuminates red for hot frothing/heating and blue for cold frothing, providing clear visual feedback on the selected mode. An automatic thermal shutdown feature prevents overheating, and the appliance will switch off automatically once a cycle is complete.

Usage Features

To use the Latte Magic, first ensure the power base is placed on a stable, dry, level, moisture-resistant, and heat-resistant surface, with at least 10 cm of free space on each side and 50 cm above for proper ventilation. The appliance should be unplugged during setup. The milk frothing disc, which produces warm and cold milk froth, is magnetically attached and easily removable for cleaning. It should be placed with the bulge pointing upwards between the three pins on the frothing disc mount at the bottom of the jug.

When filling the jug, it's important to observe the maximum and minimum filling levels indicated inside. For frothing milk, the MAX mark is 150 ml, while for heating milk, it's 250 ml. The MIN mark for all functions is 100 ml. Using too much milk for frothing can cause overflow due to the increased volume of froth. Always fill the jug with cold, fresh milk for optimal frothing results. The lid, which has a seal, should be securely placed on the jug to prevent dripping or splashing during operation.

Once the jug is prepared and placed on the multi-directional power base, plug the appliance into a suitable power outlet.

  • For frothing warm milk, press the Start/Stop button once for 1 second. The button will light up red, indicating that the appliance is heating and frothing the milk. The process is complete when the button is no longer illuminated.
  • For frothing cold milk, press the Start/Stop button once for 3 seconds. The switch will light up blue, and the appliance will foam the milk without heating. The process stops when the button light turns off.
  • For heating milk, quickly press the Start/Stop button twice. The switch will flash red, indicating that the appliance is heating the milk. The heating process is complete when the button is no longer illuminated.

After a cycle is complete, the appliance automatically shuts off. It is recommended to wait about 1 minute for hot milk to settle before pouring. The jug and lid should be handled by their designated handles, as they can become very hot. Steam and condensate may escape when opening the lid. The frothing cycle can be stopped at any time by lifting the jug off the power base or by pressing the start button twice.

The Latte Magic is designed for processing edible food, specifically milk and milk alternatives. It is not intended for thickening or heating other food substances like custards or soups, nor for whipping cream or egg white. It should not be used to mix large quantities of dry or solid ingredients or melt large pieces of food. While various ingredients like cacao powder, syrups, or honey can be added for flavored froth, solid food is not permitted as it can damage the frothing spiral and motor. For best results with powdery ingredients like cacao, it's often better to add them after the milk has been frothed.

Maintenance Features

Proper cleaning after each use is crucial for maintaining the appliance's performance and longevity. Before cleaning, always unplug the power base.

  • Power Base: The power base should never be immersed in water or any other liquid. Clean it with a warm, damp cloth or sponge and dry it with a soft towel, ensuring no liquid runs into the base.
  • Frothing Disc: The frothing disc should be removed from the shaft and carefully washed with warm soapy water using a sponge or scrubber pad. Rinse it with water and dry with a soft towel. Removing grease residues is important, as they can interfere with the frothing process.
  • Jug: The jug is not dishwasher safe and should never be immersed in water, as this can damage the electronic components at the bottom. Immediately after each use, place a small amount of warm water in the jug to soak, which helps prevent ingredients from building up on the non-stick coated surface. Wash the jug and lid with warm soapy water using a sponge or cloth suitable for non-stick coatings. Rinse with cold water and dry with a soft towel, being careful not to damage the non-stick coating. Abrasive cleaners, chemicals, disinfectants, or sharp utensils should not be used.
  • Stubborn Residues: For stubborn residues, fill the jug with some dishwasher detergent and a little hot water, letting it soak for approximately 15 minutes before emptying and thoroughly rinsing with cold, clear water. After this, it's recommended to fill the jug to the max frothing level with clear cold water and run the appliance once to clean any remaining detergent. Occasionally, running the appliance with a small amount of non-sudsing detergent and warm soapy water, followed by a thorough rinse, can also help maintain cleanliness.

Before storing, ensure the appliance is switched off, unplugged, and has cooled down. Clean all parts to prevent the accumulation of dried-on food. The power cord can be loosely wrapped around the cord wrap at the bottom of the power base. Store the appliance on a clean, dry, frost-free, and stable surface, out of reach of young children, and away from direct sunlight or excessive strain. Do not place heavy objects on the appliance.

In case of any issues, a troubleshooting guide is provided. For example, if milk is not frothing, ensure cold, fresh milk is used, and the volume is within limits. If the appliance is not heating, check that the jug is correctly positioned on the power base and that the start button has been pressed. If the frothing disc is not moving, ensure it is correctly inserted and the jug is cool. If the appliance stops suddenly, check the power outlet and allow the appliance to cool down for about 30 seconds if the overheat protection has activated. Any repairs should only be performed by authorized service personnel.
