Overview

The GE Advantium Oven is a versatile appliance that combines speedcooking technology with conventional cooking methods. It utilizes high-intensity halogen lights, ceramic heaters, a convection system, and microwave energy to cook food from the top, bottom, and interior simultaneously, sealing in moisture and flavor.

Function Description:

The Advantium oven offers multiple cooking functions:

  • Speedcooking: This is the primary feature, harnessing the power of light for rapid cooking. It uses halogen lights, a ceramic heater, a convection system, and a "microwave boost" in some algorithms. No preheating is required for speedcook cycles; food can be placed directly in the oven to start cooking immediately. The oven automatically senses the electrical voltage level and adjusts cooking time for optimal results.
  • Convection Baking: This function allows for conventional oven-style baking using a heating element to raise the air temperature inside the oven, ranging from 250°F to 450°F. A fan circulates heated air, leading to slightly faster cooking than regular ovens. Preheating is optional and can be bypassed.
  • Broiling and Toasting: These functions utilize the upper halogen lamps, lower ceramic heater, and convection system to broil or toast food, similar to a conventional oven.
  • Warming and Proofing: The WARM feature keeps cooked foods hot at serving temperature (140-230°F). The PROOF feature creates a warm environment for raising yeast-leavened products.
  • Microwaving: This includes standard microwave cooking with adjustable power levels (High 10, Med-High 7, Medium 5, Low 2 or 3, Warm 1) and pre-set selections for various food types (Cook by Time, Defrost by Food Type/Time/Weight, Reheat for beverages, casseroles, chicken, pasta, pizza, plate of food, rice, soup, steaks/chops, vegetables, Melt, Soften, Express).
  • Sensor Cooking: This microwave feature detects increasing humidity during cooking and automatically adjusts cooking time for various food types and amounts. It is not recommended to use sensor features twice in succession on the same food portion to avoid overcooking.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Upper Halogen Lamps: Two 1200W halogen lamps for top cooking in speedcook, broil, and toast modes.
  • Lower Ceramic Heater: One 500W ceramic heater for bottom cooking in speedcook, broil, and toast modes.
  • Rear Convection System: One 1500W heating element with a convection fan for circulating hot air in speedcook, broil, convection bake, toast, and warm modes.
  • Microwave Power Levels: Adjustable from Warm 1 to High 10, with specific percentages of microwave energy used depending on the setting (e.g., M-05 for Microwave on 50% of the time).
  • Convection Bake Temperature Range: 250°F to 450°F.
  • Maximum Cook Time: 179 minutes for convection baking.
  • Delay Start: Up to 24 hours.

Usage Features:

  • Turntable: Must always be in place for all cooking functions. For speedcooking, broiling, toasting, warming, and convection baking, the metal tray or metal grill tray is used on the turntable. For microwaving, the clear glass tray is used.
  • Control Panel: Features pads for Speedcook, Convection Bake/Broil, Custom Speedcook, Warm/Proof, Cook (Microwave), Express (Microwave), Defrost (Microwave)/Oven Light, Reheat (Microwave), Favorite Recipe, Timer, Start/Pause, Cancel/Off, Back, Help, Power/Temp, and Options.
  • Selector Dial: Used to select options, food types, power levels, temperatures, and to increase/decrease cooking times.
  • Favorite Recipe: Allows users to add, edit, or remove up to 30 custom speedcook or microwave recipes, or pre-set menu recipes.
  • Repeat Last: Press and hold the Speedcook pad for 3 seconds to repeat the last cooking selection.
  • Resume Feature: Allows for additional cooking time after a cycle is completed.
  • Child Lock-out: Locks the control panel to prevent accidental starts or use by children.
  • Clock: Must be set before first use.
  • Beeper Volume: Adjustable, can be turned off.
  • Display Scroll Speed: Adjustable for message display.
  • Auto Recipe Convert: Reduces convection baking temperature by 25°F when turned ON.
  • Oven Light: Can be turned on for 4 seconds during cooking by pressing the DEFROST pad.
  • Cookware:
    • Speedcooking: Metal tray or metal grill tray for direct food placement. Non-metal casserole dishes, pie plates, and other heat-safe cookware can be used directly on the turntable. Avoid foil, plastic, wax, or paper coverings.
    • Convection Baking, Broiling, Warming, Toasting: Metal trays for direct food placement. Wire oven rack for two-level baking. Any oven-safe dish can be used directly on the metal trays or wire rack. Avoid plastic containers, plastic cooking/roasting bags, plastic wrap, wax paper, or paper coverings.
    • Microwaving: Clear glass tray for food or microwave-safe containers. Avoid metal cookware or the wire oven rack.
  • Food Arrangement: For consistent browning in speedcooking, arrange food in circular, side-by-side, spoke, or single-layer patterns. Foods can touch but should not overlap.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Inside: Turn off the oven and ensure it is warm or cool. Use a warm soapy cloth for spatters. For stubborn dirt, place a bowl of water in the oven and run CUSTOM SPEEDCOOK for 10 minutes (U=10, L=10, M=7, C=10) to loosen dirt. For yellowing on metal, use a stainless steel cleaner. Do not use abrasive cleaners, sharp utensils, commercial oven cleaners, or metal scouring pads.
  • Cleaning the Outside: Use a clean damp sponge for the glass control panel, door, and drawer. For stainless steel surfaces, use warm sudsy water or a stainless steel cleaner/polish, wiping in the direction of the grain. Avoid cleaners with ammonia or alcohol.
  • Door Seal: Keep clean with mild, non-abrasive detergents and a clean sponge or soft cloth.
  • Removable Turntable: Clean frequently with warm, sudsy water. Ensure it is properly seated with the "TOP" side facing up.
  • Cooking Trays and Wire Oven Rack: Allow to cool completely before cleaning. Wash in hot, sudsy water or dishwasher. Do not use abrasives on glass tray or wire oven rack. Soap-filled scouring pads can be used on metal trays.
  • Halogen Lamp Cover and Mica Sheet: Do not remove. Keep free of grease and food spatterings. Clean with a warm soapy cloth or plastic scrubbie when cool. For heavy burned-on soil on the lamp cover, a cleaning scraper can be used at a 30° angle.
  • Cooling Fans: Automatically turn on during and after cooking to cool internal components. They will shut off when parts are cool.
  • Accessory Storage Drawer: Designed to hold cooking trays and wire oven rack. Not for cloth, wood, paper, or other combustible products. Contents can get hot during use.
