If the start status indicator light is flashing on your GE Dishwasher, it means the door was opened or the cycle was interrupted. To restart, press the Start button once and close the door within 4 seconds. If you want to cancel the cycle while the dishwasher is running, press the Start button a second time.

Why don't dishes dry in my GE GBT640 Dishwasher?
    • U
      uwhiteAug 26, 2025
If your GE Dishwasher is not drying dishes, there are several potential causes. First, the inlet water temperature might be too low; ensure it is at least 120°F (49°C). Select Heated Dry, use the Hi Temp option, or choose a higher cycle like Sanitize or Heavy. Second, the rinse agent dispenser could be empty; check and fill as needed. Finally, additional drying time may be required; leave the door closed after the Clean light appears to allow the fan to run for an additional 90 minutes, but note that opening the door will cancel this extension.

What to do if GE Dishwasher control panel works but it doesn't fill with water?
    • M
      Mark McfarlandAug 28, 2025
If your GE Dishwasher's control panel responds to inputs but the dishwasher never fills with water, it could be due to a few reasons. First, ensure that the door is firmly closed. Second, check that the water valve (usually located under the sink) is turned on. Third, the flood float may be stuck; remove the Ultra-Fine filter and lightly tap the piece under the ultra fine filter that looks like a salt shaker, then replace the filter.

Why won’t my GE Dishwasher run?
    • A
      Allen SmithAug 30, 2025
If your GE Dishwasher won’t run, check the following: a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker (replace the fuse or reset the breaker, and remove other appliances from the circuit), the power is turned off (ensure the wall switch, often located next to the disposer switch, is on), the control panel is locked (unlock it; see the Getting started section), a possible leak is detected (call for service at 800.561.3344), or the proper Start sequence was not followed (see the USING THE DISHWASHER section).

How to prevent spots and filming on glasses and flatware in GE Dishwasher?
    • M
      meganrubioSep 1, 2025
If your GE Dishwasher leaves spots and filming on glasses and flatware, it could be due to several reasons. Extremely hard water may be the cause; use rinse agents like Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid, and consider a water softener if the water is extremely hard. Low inlet water temperature can also contribute; ensure it's at least 120°F (49°C). Overloading or improper loading of the dishwasher can also cause this issue; load it as shown in the Loading section. Other potential causes include old or damp powder detergent (use fresh, highly rated detergent), an empty rinse agent dispenser (refill it), or using too little or low performing detergent (use the proper amount of highly rated detergent).

What causes cloudiness on glassware in my GE Dishwasher?
    • S
      Samantha BennettSep 3, 2025
If there is cloudiness on glassware from your GE Dishwasher, it may be due to a combination of soft water and too much detergent, which causes etching and is permanent. To prevent this, use less detergent if you have soft water and wash glassware in the shortest cycle that will get it clean. Another cause may be low performing phosphate-free detergent. Water temperature entering the dishwasher exceeding 150°F (66°C) may be the cause; lower the water heater temperature.

What to do if detergent is left in dispenser cups of GE GBT640 Dishwasher?
    • K
      kimchristinaSep 12, 2025
If you find detergent left in the dispenser cups of your GE Dishwasher, it's likely that dishes or utensils are blocking the detergent cup. Try repositioning the dishes to allow water from the lower spray arm to flush the detergent cup. See the Loading section for guidance. Also, reposition any tall utensils or heavy silverware that may be preventing the dispenser cup door from opening, and avoid placing large bowls or pots directly under the detergent dispenser.

Why are there suds in the tub of my GE Dishwasher?
    • J
      joseph19Sep 13, 2025
If you see suds in the tub of your GE Dishwasher, it's likely due to using the wrong detergent. Use only automatic dishwasher detergents to avoid sudsing. To remove suds, open the dishwasher and let them dissipate. Open the door, press and hold Start for 3 seconds, and close the door. Another cause might be spilled rinse agent; always wipe up rinse agent spills immediately.
