Overview

The KSA700 Series Analogue Addressable Fire Panels, a product of GE Interlogix and Kilsen, are designed for high reliability and ease of use in fire detection systems. These fire panels comply with EN54-2 and EN54-4 1997 standards, ensuring a robust and compliant solution for fire safety.

Function Description:

The KSA700 Series panels serve as the central control unit for analogue addressable fire detection systems. They are capable of detecting fire alarms, identifying faults, and managing various outputs such as sounders and relays. The loop structure allows for flexible system configuration and expansion. The panels feature a user-friendly interface with an LCD display and an alphanumeric keypad for system interaction. Different access levels, protected by passwords, ensure secure operation and configuration.

Important Technical Specifications:

The KSA700 Series is available in several versions, varying in loop capacity:

  • KSA701/2: One loop or two loops.
  • KSA702: One or two loops (expandable by the installer).
  • KSA705: One to five loops (expandable by the installer).
  • KSA702P and KSA705P: As per KSA702/705 but with a built-in printer.

In addition to standard loop outputs, the fire panel includes:

  • Two serial ports (RS232 and/or RS485) for communication with external devices like PCs, printers, modems, GSM modems, or Ethernet network connection modules. The RS232 port supports short-distance communications up to 15 meters, while the RS485 port supports communications up to 1.2 km, enabling networks of connected fire and repeater panels.
  • Two monitored sounder outputs.
  • Two voltage-free contact relays.
  • An auxiliary 24 VDC output (specifications vary by model).

Usage Features:

The control panel features an LCD display with 4 lines of 40 characters each, presenting menu options and system status.

  • Keyboard Functions:
    • Sounders On / Sound Alarms: Activates all sounders.
    • Sounders Silence / Silence Alarms: Silences all sounders.
    • Silence Buzzer / Mute: Silences the internal buzzer during incident or fault investigation.
    • Reset: Resets the system.
    • Evacuation: Sets the system to alarm status, releasing all sounders and programmed events through relay outputs.
    • Alphanumeric Keypad: Used for text and number entry, menu option selection, confirming entries, and navigating through displays.
  • LED Indicators: Provide visual status of the system:
    • Supply On / Power: Mains power is ON.
    • Fire / Alarm: An alarm has been detected, indicated by the corresponding zone LED.
    • Fault: A general fault has been detected.
    • Disabled: An output or device is disconnected or disabled.
    • Test: A test is being performed.
    • Supply Fault: Panel not properly powered (mains shutdown or battery problem).
    • Sounder Fault: One or more sounder outputs have a problem.
    • System / CPU Fault: Malfunction in the fire panel.
    • Relays Disabled: A relay output is disabled.
    • Sounder Delay: Fire detected, but sounders/relays delayed.
    • Earth Fault: Current leakage detected.
    • Silence Buzzer / Mute: Internal buzzer silenced.
    • Out of Service: Fire panel is not working.
  • Access Levels and Passwords:
    • Level 1: Visual control only, controls blocked. No password required.
    • Level 2: For persons responsible for controlling the fire system. Allows access to panel controls, switching zones on/off, and adjusting time/date. Up to 10 passwords can be defined.
    • Additional levels are reserved for installation specialists and manufacturers.
  • User Menu: Accessed by pressing Enter and entering a password.
    • Configure: (Installer-only) For system configuration.
    • Test: Allows testing of LED indicators, LCD, and outputs (alarms) without manual system reset. Can test specific zones and release outputs briefly.
    • Time: Updates system time settings (default 24-hour format).
    • Enable / Disable: Allows enabling or disabling of zones, devices, keyboard, delayed mode, and relays/sounders.
      • Zone: Disables a specific zone, activating an internal buzzer and displaying a confirmation message. Disabled zones are highlighted by an LED.
      • Devices: Disables individual devices by loop number and address.
      • Keyboard: Disables the control panel keyboard.
      • Delayed Mode: Programs a time delay for alarms in specific zones, allowing verification before sounders/relays activate. Manual call points always trigger confirmed alarms immediately.
      • Relay / Sounders: Disables sounders or relays for system checks without releasing outputs.
    • Print: (KSA702P and KSA705P only, or external printer) Prints system information:
      • Devices: Status of connected devices.
      • History: Records of events (all or part).
      • Mode: Printer operation mode (Auto, Manual, OFF).
      • Disabled: List of all disabled devices.
      • Options: Selects the port used by the printer.
    • View: Checks the current status of selected devices:
      • Devices: Status of a single device by loop number and address.
      • History: List of recorded events.
      • Faults: Current system faults.
      • Outputs: Status of sounders and relays (ON/OFF, alarm events).
      • Disabled: View disabled zones or detectors.
      • Events: All events recorded by the system.
  • Alarm/Fault Procedure: A clear step-by-step guide for operators:
    1. Keep Calm.
    2. Press any key and enter the user password.
    3. Silence the internal buzzer (using Silence Buzzer or Mute key).
    4. Identify the cause using LED indicators.
    5. Act according to site-specific emergency procedures.
    6. System Reset after all incidents are resolved.

Maintenance Features:

Maintenance recommendations follow EN54-14 and local authority laws.

  • By the user:
