Plan the Location of the Hood and Ductwork
• Use a plumb bob to check the location.
The countertop/cooktop below the hood
must be centered with the hood.
• The hood should extend beyond the front and rear
edge of the cooking appliance.
• The duct in the ceiling must be centered over
the cooktop.

Ceiling Support Structure
• At the hood location, install cross framing between
ceiling joists as shown. (2x4 wood supports
are required to support the weight of the hood.)
• Arrange cross framing in the ceiling to suit
the existing structure.
• Your ceiling joists will be like one of the following
examples.
