Utilize 16 logic blocks (AND, OR, NOT, TIMER) to create integrated applications simplifying the control system.
The Gefran 650/1250/1350 Series PID Temperature Controllers are advanced devices designed for precise temperature management in various industrial applications. Available in 48x48mm, 48x96mm, and 96x96mm DIN formats, these controllers offer a comprehensive suite of functions for optimal process control.
At its core, the device functions as a PID temperature controller, capable of managing heating and cooling processes with high accuracy. It supports single-loop PID, ON/OFF, single action heat or cool, and double action heat/cool control modes. For motorized valves, it offers OPEN/CLOSE control on Relay, Solid-state, and Triac outputs, with a constant or optimized cycle time.
A key feature is the Setpoint Programmer, which allows users to define complex temperature profiles. Up to four programs can be configured, each with up to 12 steps. Each step includes its own setpoint, ramp time, and hold time, with times settable in HH:MM or MM:SS formats. The programmer also supports up to four consents, configurable for ramp and hold, and up to four events, configurable in ramp and hold. Programs can be started, stopped, reset, or skipped via digital inputs or logic operations.
The controller also incorporates Multiple Setpoints, allowing up to four setpoints to be selected via digital input. Each setpoint change is subject to a set ramp, with different ramp rates for up and down changes.
For enhanced control logic, the device includes Logic Operations with up to 16 function blocks. These blocks, which include AND, OR, NOT, and TIMER functions, can be used to create custom applications by associating external events from logic inputs with internal controller states such as setpoint states, alarms, and AUTO/MAN states. Each function block also contains an incorporated timer block.
The Timer Function offers START/STOP modes. A stabilization timer activates when the process variable enters a band around the setpoint, and upon completion, it can activate an output, shut down the SW, or change SP1/SP2. A firing timer allows for timed activation of control after power-on.
An integrated Energy Monitor function tracks the electrical consumption of the process. It calculates consumption based on nominal line voltage and load power or on RMS current measured via a current transformer (CT). This feature helps in identifying deviations from average consumption and signals any faults, contributing to energy efficiency and fault detection.
The Gefran controllers are designed for intuitive and flexible operation. The Flex-View Display is highly customizable, allowing users to personalize the faceplate color, display, operator messages, and logo. For models 1250/1350, a bargraph can also be utilized. Attributes such as character size, black/white contrast, and message color combinations ensure excellent readability, even from a distance.
Custom Labeling allows customers to add their logo, part number, machine name, or any other desired text to the faceplate, facilitating brand integration and machine identification. The device frames are available in standard dark grey, with other RAL colors available upon request to match specific application needs.
Messages on Display are made possible by an alphanumeric function, allowing configuration of up to 25 scrolling messages in 32 plain alphanumeric characters, supporting multiple languages. This provides clear and immediate feedback to the operator.
The display brightness is easily adjustable, optimizing visibility in various work environments and extending the display's lifecycle. The bargraph display can be customized to indicate various process parameters and variables, such as valve opening percentage for motorized valve control.
Easy and Fast Setup is a core design principle. The device can be configured in three ways: directly from the keyboard in just seven steps, via PC using the free GF_eXpress configurator software, or with the Zapper portable configurator. At first power-on, the controller displays only the parameters necessary for immediate operation, based on the model ordered. Each parameter includes a scrollable "Help on Line" message in plain language, describing its meaning.
The Intuitive Interface is further enhanced by green LEDs corresponding to the four mechanical keys (real buttons). These LEDs visually indicate key presses, guide the user to the correct key for actions like alarm acknowledgment, indicate inactive functions, and signal unrecognized keys (diagnostics).
Configuration can be performed even when the controller is not powered, making it convenient for pre-configuration or installation on machines. This is particularly useful for OEMs and end-users who need to program multiple controllers across several machines.
The controllers incorporate Preventive Maintenance functions to monitor the lifecycle of actuators (relay, SSR, IR lamps) and Short Wave Infrared (SWIR) lamps. This allows users to:
The Energy Monitor function, in addition to tracking consumption, signals any faults if the system exceeds expected values, further aiding in preventive maintenance. Cycle counters and alarm messages are also provided to monitor system cycles, ensuring timely intervention and prolonging equipment life.
The Retentive Memory uses EEPROM technology, capable of 1,000,000 writes, ensuring the durability and reliability of stored configurations and data.
