Overview

The document describes the Girard Systems GC105A 5 Channel Remote Handset, an RF transmitter designed for controlling RV awnings. This installation and programming guide, revised on 12/30/2015, provides detailed instructions for pairing the handset with various Girard Systems motor controllers.

Function Description:

The GC105A is a 5-channel RF transmitter that operates on a frequency of 433.92 MHz. It is designed to control up to five awnings, allowing users to extend, retract, and stop them. The handset communicates wirelessly with G-Link motor and control modules, eliminating the need for physical wiring and drilling holes in the vehicle. This wireless communication system relies on electronic matching, programming, or pairing of components, which is typically done at the Girard Systems factory but can be performed by the user if needed.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Channels: 5 channels, allowing control of up to 5 individual awnings.
  • Power Source: Single 3V Lithium battery (CR2430).
  • Operating Frequency: 433.92 MHz RF signals.
  • Compatibility: Designed to pair with various Girard Systems AC and DC motor controllers, including:
    • GC136 AC Motor Controller
    • GC274A / GC274B AC Motor Controllers
    • 98GC74 AC Motor Controller
    • GC732G DC Motor Controller
    • GC1146C DC Motor Controller

Usage Features:

The GC105A handset features a multi-functional circular control pad and a channel display screen.

  • Control Pad:
    • IN button: Retracts the awning.
    • OUT button: Extends the awning.
    • STOP button: Stops the awning's movement.
    • Channel Select UP/DOWN buttons: Used to navigate between the 5 available channels, allowing the user to select which awning to control.
  • P2 Button: Located on the back of the handset, this button is crucial for pairing the device with G-Link motor control modules.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Awnings can be operated in light wind and rain, but must be closed during periods of heavy rain or high wind. They should never be left open and unattended. Damage caused by wind and rain is not covered by warranty.
    • All awnings must be closed before moving the vehicle. A visual check is recommended to ensure all awnings are fully closed. Damage due to non-compliance with these instructions is not covered by warranty.
    • Before deployment, ensure the area is free of obstructions (trees, walls, pillars, posts, other vehicles). Damage from collisions is not covered by warranty.
    • Ensure all electrical circuits are operating correctly. RVs can draw AC power from shore power, generator power, or inverter power (requiring charged batteries).

Maintenance Features (Battery and Pairing):

  • Battery Replacement: The handset is powered by a single CR2430 3V Lithium battery, which is inserted into the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  • Pairing Procedure: The manual provides detailed, step-by-step instructions for pairing the GC105A handset with different motor controllers. Key aspects of the pairing process include:
    • Time Sensitivity: Each step in the pairing procedure must be executed within 10 seconds of the previous one, otherwise, the module will revert to factory settings. Users are strongly advised to read and understand the entire sequence before attempting it.
    • Motor Controller Specifics:
      • GC136 AC Motor Controller: Involves pressing the Program button, then the STOP button on the controller, selecting a channel on the handset, and pressing the IN button. Finally, pressing OUT, STOP, and IN alternately on the handset confirms pairing.
      • GC274A / GC274B AC Motor Controllers: Requires removing the lid of the control module, then a similar sequence of pressing the Program button, STOP button on the controller, selecting a channel, pressing IN on the handset, and then OUT, STOP, and IN alternately.
      • 98GC74 AC Motor Controller: This module has a shorter programming window of only 6 seconds. It involves supplying power (which results in a single beep), selecting a channel, pressing the P2 button on the handset TWICE (each press results in a beep from the controller), and then pressing the IN button. If the awning extends instead of retracting, the STOP button should be pressed immediately, power removed for 10 seconds, and the process repeated, pressing OUT instead of IN at the final step.
      • GC732G DC Motor Controller: Similar to the GC136, it involves pressing the Program button, then the STOP button on the controller, selecting a channel on the handset, pressing the IN button, and then OUT, STOP, and IN alternately.
      • GC1146C DC Motor Controller: For this controller, the awning should first be fully extended and then retracted to be partially open (about 3 feet). The pairing process involves supplying power (resulting in a soft beep), selecting a channel, pressing the P2 button on the handset TWICE (each press results in a beep from the controller), and then pressing the IN button on the wall switch. If the awning extends instead of retracting, the STOP button should be pressed immediately, power removed for 10 seconds, and the process repeated, pressing OUT instead of IN at the final step.
  • Troubleshooting: If the awning moves in the wrong direction during pairing, specific steps are provided to correct the direction by repeating parts of the programming sequence and pressing the opposite control button (e.g., OUT instead of IN).
  • Support: For any queries or assistance with programming, users can contact Girard Systems TOLL FREE at 800-382-8442 between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM P.S.T.
