Overview

This document is an operating manual for the Goldair 2400W Bathroom Wall Fan Heater, covering models 3508W, GBH100, GBH250, and GBH300.

Function Description

The Goldair 2400W Bathroom Wall Fan Heater is designed to provide heating in bathrooms. It operates as a fan heater, circulating warm air. The device is intended for permanent wall mounting and requires fixed wiring for installation. It features an overheat protection mechanism that turns the heater off if it overheats, and an automatic step-down heat function to reduce power output when a pre-set room temperature is reached, saving energy. The heater is activated and deactivated via a pull-cord.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Output: 2000-2400W
  • Voltage: 220-240VAC
  • Frequency: 50Hz
  • Ingress Protection (IP) Rating: IPX0 (must be installed in Zone 3 of a bathroom, meaning it should not be exposed to direct water spray)
  • Mounting: Wall-mounted with a quick-release wall mounting base.
  • Minimum Clearances for Installation:
    • From floor: 1.85m
    • From ceiling: 210mm
    • On sides: 300mm
    • From bottom of heater to obstructions (e.g., other appliances, shelves, pictures): 700mm
    • From air outlet to flammable material (e.g., textiles, curtains, soft furnishings): 1.0m
  • Electrical Connection: Permanent wiring within the wall cavity from an isolating switch. Means for disconnection must be incorporated in the fixed wiring in accordance with wiring rules.
  • Safety Features: Thermal safety device, overheat protection, permanent disabling element safety device in case of severe overheating.

Usage Features

  • Operating Modes: The heater has three operating modes:
    • Heat Control – Hot Air – 2400W: Provides maximum heat output. Activated by pulling the pull-cord. A neon indicator light illuminates when in operation.
    • Automatic Step-down Heat – Warm Air – 1200W: Automatically reduces heat output to 1200W to save power once a pre-set room temperature is reached. It will automatically step-up and increase heat output if the room cools down.
    • Overheat Protection – Cold Air: In the event of overheating, the heater will turn itself off and blow cold air. It will automatically re-set once it has cooled down. If it continues to blow cold air after cooling, the permanent disabling element safety device may have activated, requiring customer service contact.
  • Controls: Operated via a pull-cord switch.
  • Installation Requirements:
    • Must be installed on heat-resistant walls compliant with AS/NZS specifications and building regulations.
    • Must be locked onto the Wall Mounting Base for safe operation.
    • Cannot be mounted directly under or above an electrical power socket; recommended to install to the side.
    • Switches and controls must not be touchable by a person in the bath or shower.
    • Avoid installing where an open door can abut the front of the unit, as this can cause rapid overheating.
    • Ensure the unit is at least 700mm above any wall-mounted object (including window frames and doors) that might reflect heat and activate safety devices.
  • Initial Use: A slight odour or smoke may be released during the first use due to the initial heating of internal elements; this is normal and should not reoccur.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Cleaning: Essential for trouble-free operation and to prevent overheating.
  • Cleaning Procedure:
    • Before cleaning, remove the unit from the Mounting Base Plate.
    • Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and fluff from the inlet and outlet grills. This is crucial as dust and fluff deposits are a common cause of overheating.
    • Use a damp cloth to clean the exterior of the heater.
    • Do not use abrasive cleaning products.
    • Ensure the heater is completely dry before reconnecting the power supply.
  • Servicing: Do not attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions yourself, as this will void the warranty. Contact a qualified electrical person for service.
  • Troubleshooting Overheating: If the heater blows cold air due to overheating, power it off and allow 1-2 hours for safety devices to cool down and reset. If it still blows cold air after this, the permanent disabling element safety device has activated, and customer service should be contacted.
