Overview

This document serves as a quick guide for the GoPro Hero 7, available in both Silver and White editions, published in 2022. It provides essential information for users to operate the camera, capture footage, and manage their media.

Before You Start:

Before beginning your adventure, it's important to note that the rental GoPro Hero 7 comes pre-configured. It is fully charged, and a 32GB SD card is already installed, providing approximately one hour of filming time. For convenience, a charging station is available on the vessel. Users are encouraged to download the GoPro QUIK app if they wish to download their data at the end of the tour. However, it's advised to avoid using the QUIK app to control the camera during use, as this can significantly reduce battery life.

Powering On and Off:

To power the camera on or off, locate the power button. A long press (approximately 3 seconds) will initiate the power cycle.

Touch Screen Directions:

The GoPro Hero 7 features a responsive touch screen interface for intuitive control.

  • Tap: A single tap allows you to select an item, turn a setting on or off, or confirm an action.
  • Swipe Left or Right: Swiping horizontally across the screen enables you to switch between the three main capture modes: Video, Photo, and Time Lapse.
  • Swipe Down From the Edge of the Screen: When the camera is in a landscape orientation, swiping down from the top edge of the screen will open the Dashboard, providing quick access to various settings and controls.
  • Swipe Up From the Edge of the Screen: Swiping up from the bottom edge of the screen will open the Media Gallery, allowing you to review your captured videos and photos.
  • Press and Hold: Pressing and holding on the screen can activate specific functions, such as adjusting exposure control.

Camera Interface Elements (Touch Screen):

The main screen displays several key indicators:

  1. Camera Mode: Indicates the current capture mode (Video, Photo, or Time Lapse).
  2. Recording Time/Photos Remaining: Shows the available recording time or the number of photos that can still be taken on the installed SD card.
  3. Battery Status: Displays the current battery charge level, ensuring you know when to recharge.
  4. Capture Options: Provides access to various settings and options related to the current capture mode.

Video or Photo or Time Lapse?

The GoPro Hero 7 offers three primary capture modes: Video, Photo, and Time Lapse Video. You can easily switch between these modes by swiping left or right on the touch screen.

Recording Video:

  1. Switch Mode: Swipe left or right on the touch screen until the "RECORDING VIDEO" mode is displayed.
  2. Start Recording: Press the Shutter button (usually located on the top of the camera) once to begin recording.
  3. Stop Recording: Press the Shutter button again to stop the recording.

Taking a Photo:

  1. Switch Mode: Swipe right on the touch screen until the "TAKE A PHOTO" mode is displayed.
  2. Capture Photo: Press the Shutter button once to take a photo.

Pro Tips for Usage:

  • Underwater Operation: While the GoPro is waterproof, the touch screen does not function underwater. To switch modes while submerged, ensure the camera is on and then press the Mode button (typically on the side of the camera).
  • Eliminating Fisheye: You can zoom in on your footage to help reduce the "fisheye" effect often seen around the edges of wide-angle videos.
  • Power Saving: The screen will automatically go to sleep after one minute of recording to conserve battery life. To wake it up, simply tap the screen. It will remain active for 10 seconds before returning to sleep mode.

Getting Your Footage:

There are several convenient ways to retrieve your captured footage:

  • GoPro QUIK App: Download the free GoPro QUIK App on your Apple or Android smartphone. This app allows you to synchronize your phone with the GoPro, enabling you to view, edit, and share your footage directly from your device.
  • Dropbox or GoogleDrive: Upon request, the team can upload your footage to your preferred cloud storage site (Dropbox or GoogleDrive), allowing you to download it from anywhere.
  • Micro SD Card Copy: For a physical copy, the team can make a copy of your footage onto a Micro SD Card with an adapter once you return to port. This process typically takes approximately 25 minutes.

This guide aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the GoPro Hero 7's functions and usage, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all users.
