This document provides a comprehensive guide for the safe and efficient use of your new Gorenje microwave oven, designed for household use to heat food and beverages using electromagnetic energy, for indoor use only. It emphasizes safety, operational instructions, and maintenance to ensure a long and reliable service life for the appliance.
The microwave oven is equipped with various functions to cater to diverse cooking and heating needs. It features a digital clock, which can be set in 24-hour mode, and a display unit that shows selected functions and time. The appliance offers several cooking modes, including rapid heating with microwaves at 100% power, and heating with microwaves with manual power control, allowing users to select from seven power levels (700, 600, 500, 400, 300, 200, and 100 W) with a maximum operating time of 95 minutes.
For more versatile cooking, the oven includes a grill function, ideal for thin slices of meat, escalopes, steaks, meat chops, skewers, sausages, chicken pieces, toasting bread or sandwiches, and finishing dishes au gratin. The maximum operating time for the grill is also 95 minutes.
Combined operation modes are available, blending microwave and grill functions. The C-1 mode operates with microwaves 55% of the time and grill 45% of the time, suitable for cooking fish or dishes au gratin. The C-2 mode uses microwaves 36% of the time and grill 64% of the time, perfect for puddings, soufflés, omelettes, baked potatoes, and poultry. Both combined modes have a maximum operating time of 95 minutes. During grilling or combined cooking, the oven beeps halfway through to remind you to turn the food for even cooking.
Defrosting is another key feature, with both auto defrost and speed defrost options. Auto defrost adjusts defrosting time and power automatically based on the preset weight of meat, poultry, or seafood (between 100 g and 2000 g). Speed defrost allows for rapid defrosting by time, such as for bread. Similar to grilling, the oven beeps halfway through defrosting to prompt turning the food.
The auto menu function simplifies cooking by pre-setting power and time based on the type and approximate weight/amount of food. Programs range from A-1 (rapid reheating) to A-8 (pasta), covering various food categories like liquids, popcorn, meat, potatoes, vegetables, and fish.
For multi-stage cooking, the microwave oven allows users to combine two steps, for example, defrosting followed by heating at a specific power level. However, the defrost function can only be used in the first step, and auto menu programs cannot be part of a multi-step cooking program.
A quick start function provides rapid heating at 100% microwave power for 30-second intervals, extendable with consecutive presses of the START key. This feature is applicable to all programs except automatic mode, multi-step cooking, and auto defrost.
The appliance also includes a child lock function to prevent uncontrolled or inadvertent use by children. When activated, a key symbol appears on the display, and all keys become ineffective. A countdown timer/minute minder allows setting an alarm for up to 95 minutes, which does not affect oven operation or serve as a cooking timer. Users can also adjust the loudness of key and other appliance sounds, with an option to mute key sounds while retaining alarm and program beeps.
To ensure optimal performance and safety, certain usage guidelines must be followed. Always ensure the glass tray, roller arms, coupling, and roller track are in place when operating the oven. The oven should only be used for food preparation, not for drying clothes, paper, or other non-food items, or for sterilization. Operating the oven empty can cause damage. The oven cavity should not be used for storage.
When cooking foods surrounded by a membrane, such as egg yolks, potatoes, or chicken livers, pierce them several times with a fork to prevent explosions. Avoid inserting any objects into the openings on the outer case and never remove parts like feet, coupling, or screws from the oven. Food should always be placed in proper cooking utensils on the glass tray, not directly on it.
Special attention must be paid to suitable cookware. Metal pans, dishes with metal handles, items with metal trim, and paper-covered wire twist-ties on plastic bags should not be used. Melamine dishes are unsuitable as they absorb microwave energy, potentially causing cracking or charring and slowing cooking. Centura Tableware and Corelle Livingware closed handle cups are also not recommended. Containers with restricted openings, like pop bottles or sealed oil bottles, can explode if heated. Conventional meat and candy thermometers should not be used; only microwave-specific thermometers are safe. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for microwave utensils.
Deep-frying in this oven is not permitted. Remember that the microwave primarily heats the liquid in a container, so even if the container feels cool, the contents can be very hot. Always test the temperature of cooked food, especially for babies, and allow food/liquid to stand for a few minutes and stir to distribute heat evenly before consumption. Foods with a mixture of fat and water, like stock, should stand for 30-60 seconds after being turned off to prevent bubbling. High-fat or high-sugar content foods, such as Christmas puddings, jam, and mincemeat, heat up quickly and should not be cooked in plastic containers. Cooking utensils can become hot from heat transferred from the food, so use potholders when handling.
To prevent fire hazards, avoid overcooking food. Carefully monitor the oven if paper, plastic, or other combustible materials are used for cooking. Remove wire twist-ties from bags before placing them in the oven. If materials inside the oven ignite, keep the door closed, turn off the oven at the wall switch, or shut off power at the fuse or circuit breaker panel.
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your microwave oven. Before cleaning, always turn off the oven and unplug it from the wall socket.
Keep the inside of the oven clean. Food splatters or spilled liquids should be wiped with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh detergents or abrasives. The outside surface of the oven should also be cleaned with a damp cloth, taking care not to let water seep into the ventilation openings to prevent damage to internal operating parts. The control panel should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth; do not use detergents, abrasives, or spray-on cleaners on the control panel.
If steam accumulates inside or around the oven door, wipe it with a soft cloth. This is normal under high humidity conditions and does not indicate a malfunction. The glass tray should be removed for cleaning and can be washed in warm, sudsy water or a dishwasher. The roller ring and oven cavity floor should be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive noise. Wipe the bottom surface with mild detergent, water, or window cleaner and dry. The roller ring can also be washed in mild, sudsy water or a dishwasher. Ensure the roller ring is replaced in the proper position after cleaning. Cooking vapors may collect during repeated use but do not affect the bottom surface or roller ring wheels.
To remove odors from the oven, combine a cup of water with the juice and skin of one lemon in a deep microwaveable bowl, microwave for 5 minutes, then wipe thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
It is critical to maintain the oven in a clean condition, as failure to do so can lead to deterioration of the surface, adversely affecting the appliance's life and potentially creating a hazardous situation. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid hazards. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or worktop. Never connect the appliance to an external timer switch or remote control system to avoid hazardous situations. The light bulb inside the oven should only be replaced by Gorenje service. Avoid cleaning the appliance with steam cleaners, high-pressure cleaners, sharp objects, abrasive cleaning agents, abrasive sponges, and stain removers.
In case of any issues, first check basic troubleshooting steps: ensure the oven is securely plugged in, check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers, and confirm the door is securely closed to engage safety interlocks. If the problem persists, contact an authorized service agent.
