Overview

This document serves as the owner's instruction manual for a microwave oven, providing essential information for its safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. It emphasizes the importance of reading the instructions carefully and keeping them for future reference.

The manual begins by addressing potential radio interference that the microwave oven might cause to other electronic equipment like radios and TVs. It offers practical solutions to eliminate or reduce such interference, including cleaning the oven's door and sealing surface, placing the affected equipment as far away as possible from the microwave, and ensuring a strong signal reception for radios and TVs using a properly installed antenna.

For installation, the manual advises users to first remove all packing materials from inside the door. It then instructs to inspect the oven for any visual damage upon unpacking, such as a misaligned door, damaged door, dents or holes in the door window and screen, or dents in the cavity. A critical warning is issued: if any of these damages are visible, the oven should NOT be used. The microwave oven's weight is specified, and users are advised to place it on a horizontal surface strong enough to support this weight. It also recommends placing the oven away from high temperatures and steam, and explicitly states NOT to place anything on top of the oven. Proper ventilation is crucial, with specific distances to maintain from sidewalls and the rear wall. Users are warned NOT to remove the turntable drive shaft. Finally, it highlights the necessity of close supervision when the appliance is used by children and issues a WARNING that the appliance MUST BE EARTHED.

Before calling for service, the manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues. If the oven does not perform at all, or if the display is absent or disappeared, users should check if the oven is securely plugged in. If not, they should unplug it, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in securely. Additionally, checking for a blown circuit fuse or a tripped main circuit breaker is recommended, and if these appear to be operating correctly, testing the outlet with another appliance is suggested. If the microwave power does not function, users should check if the timer is set and ensure the door is securely closed to engage the safety interlocks, as microwave energy will not flow into the oven otherwise. If these steps do not resolve the situation, users are advised to contact the nearest authorized service agent. The appliance is designed for household use only, specifically for heating food and beverages using electromagnetic energy indoors.

The manual includes important safety instructions for general use. It lists several rules and safeguards to ensure top performance and safety. Users should always have the glass tray, roller arms, coupling, and roller track in place when operating the oven. It explicitly states NOT to use the oven for any reason other than food preparation, such as drying clothes, paper, or other non-food items, or for sterilizing purposes. Operating the oven when empty is discouraged as it could damage the appliance. The oven cavity should not be used for storage of papers, cookbooks, or other items. Foods surrounded by a membrane, such as egg yolks, potatoes, or chicken livers, must be pierced several times with a fork before cooking. Users should NOT insert any object into the openings on the outer case and should NOT remove parts like feet, coupling, or screws from the oven. Food should not be cooked directly on the glass tray; instead, it should be placed in a proper cooking utensil.

A crucial section details cookware that should NOT be used in a microwave oven, including metal pans or dishes with metal handles, anything with metal trim, paper-covered wire twist-ties on plastic bags, and melamine dishes, as they can absorb microwave energy, causing cracking, charring, and slowing down cooking. Centura Tableware and Corelle Livingware closed-handle cups are also unsuitable. Containers with restricted openings, like pop bottles or sealed oil bottles, should not be used as they may explode. Conventional meat or candy thermometers are not recommended; only thermometers specifically designed for microwave cooking should be used. Microwave utensils should always be used according to the manufacturer's instructions. Deep-frying foods in this oven is not advised.

The manual also provides important warnings regarding food handling. It reminds users that a microwave oven heats the liquid in a container, not the container itself. Therefore, even if the lid of a container is not hot, the food/liquid inside will release steam and/or spit when the lid is removed. Users should always test the temperature of cooked food, especially for babies, and it is advisable to let food/liquid stand for a few minutes and stir to distribute heat evenly before consumption. Food containing a mixture of fat and water, such as stock, should stand for 30-60 seconds after being turned off to allow the mixture to settle and prevent bubbling. Certain foods like Christmas puddings, jam, and mincemeat heat up very quickly, and plastic containers should not be used for foods with high fat or sugar content. Cooking utensils may become hot due to heat transferred from the heated food, especially if plastic wrap covers the top and handles; potholders may be needed.

To reduce the risk of fire in the oven cavity, users are warned not to overcook food and to carefully monitor the microwave if paper, plastic, or other combustible materials are placed inside for cooking. Wire twist-ties must be removed from bags before placing them in the oven. If materials inside the oven ignite, the oven door should be kept closed, and the oven should be turned off at the wall switch or power shut off at the fuse or circuit breaker panel.

Further safety instructions include warnings about combination mode operation, where children should only use the oven under adult supervision due to high temperatures. If the door or door seals are damaged, the oven must not be operated until repaired by a competent person. It is hazardous for anyone other than a competent person to remove a cover that protects against microwave energy exposure. Liquids and other foods should not be heated in sealed containers due to explosion risk. The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person.

The oven requires sufficient air flow, with specific clearance distances from the back, sides, and top. Users should not remove the oven's feet or block air vents. Only microwave-safe utensils should be used. When heating food in plastic or paper containers, the oven should be monitored for potential ignition. If smoke is observed, the appliance should be switched off or unplugged, and the door kept closed to stifle flames. Microwave heating of beverages can result in delayed eruptive boiling, requiring caution when handling containers. Feeding bottles and baby food jars must be stirred or shaken, and their temperature checked before consumption to avoid burns. Eggs in their shell and whole hard-boiled eggs should not be heated in microwave ovens as they may explode. For cleaning, only mild, non-abrasive soaps or detergents applied with a sponge or soft cloth should be used on door surfaces, door seals, and the oven cavity. Regular cleaning and removal of food deposits are essential, as failure to do so can lead to deterioration of the surface, affecting the appliance's life and potentially creating a hazardous situation. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid hazards.

The plug socket should be easily accessible, and the oven requires a specific input power, suggesting consultation with a service engineer for installation. The oven is internally protected by a 250V, 10 Amp Fuse. The manual also provides wiring code information for the mains lead, specifying how green-and-yellow (Earth), blue (Neutral), and brown (Live) wires should be connected to the plug terminals.

The control panel features buttons for "Time Up," "Time Down," "Micro/defrost/Grill/Double Grill/Comb," a display window, "Clock / Timers," "Auto / Menu," and "Start / Reset." The feature diagram illustrates the physical components: Door Safety Lock System, Oven Window, Oven Air Vent, Roller Ring, Glass Tray, Control Panel, and Grill rack.

Operation instructions detail various cooking functions. "Single Button Heating" allows for quick, 100% power heating for one minute with a single press of the "Start/Reset" button, useful for heating a glass of milk. "Microwave Heating" offers two options: quick microwave heating at 100% power by setting the time and pressing "Start/Reset," or manual-operation microwave heating at a selected power level (e.g., 70% power for 10 minutes) by pressing "Micro... Auto menu" to select power, setting the time, and pressing "Start/Reset." There are five power levels, with a maximum microwave cooking time of 60 minutes.

The "Grill" function also has two options, selectable via the "Micro...Auto menu" button, with a maximum cooking time of 60 minutes. Option 1 provides 85% grill power (G-1), and Option 2 provides 50% grill power (G-2). For example, to grill food for 20 minutes using G-1, users press "Micro...Auto menu" until G-1 is displayed, set the cooking time to "20:00," and press "Start/Reset." During grilling, food is heated by radiation from the metal heater, not microwaves. Grilling time is divided into two stages; after the first stage, the program pauses, sounds two beeps, and prompts the user to open the oven and turn the food. Closing the door and pressing "Start/Reset" resumes cooking. If the food is not turned, the oven will restart automatically after a one-minute pause.

"Combination Cooking" offers two options: Option 1 combines 55% microwave and 45% grill (C-1), and Option 2 combines 30% microwave and 70% grill (C-2). For example, to cook food using Option 2 for 15 minutes, users press "Micro...Auto menu" until C-2 is displayed, set the cooking time to "15:00," and press "Start/Reset."

"Auto Weight Defrost" automatically adjusts power level and time based on the weight of frozen food. For example, to defrost 0.5 kg of frozen meat, users press "Micro...Auto menu" to select "0.1," input the weight using the "1min" (1kg) and "10 sec" (0.1kg) buttons, and then press "Start/Reset." The weight of frozen food must be less than 2 kg.

The "Auto-Menu" function simplifies cooking by automatically adjusting power and time based on food type and weight. For example, to auto-cook 0.4 kg of fish, users press "Micro...Auto menu" until "A-5" is displayed, input the weight using the "1 min" (1 kg) and "10 sec" (0.1 kg) buttons, and then press "Start/Reset." The manual provides tables for various food types (Rice, Vegetable, Noodle, Meat, Fish, Chicken) and their corresponding weights for auto-menu selection.

The "Clock" function allows setting a 24-hour digital clock. To set the time (e.g., 4:30 pm), users press the "Clock/Timer" button, adjust the hour with "1 Min" and "10 Sec" buttons, press "Clock/Timer" again to adjust the minutes, and press "Clock/Timer" once more to set the clock. The procedure can be repeated to change the time.

The "Timer" feature allows setting the microwave oven to start and finish cooking at a pre-set time. The clock must be set before using this feature. For example, to start cooking at 18:15 on 70% power for 10 minutes, users first set the time to "18:15" using the "1Min" and "10 Sec" buttons (same as setting the clock), then press "Micro... Auto menu" to select 70% power, set cooking time to 10 minutes, and press "Start/Reset." If power and cooking time are not set, and the start button is pressed after programming the time, the appliance will only work as a clock. At the pre-set time, the appliance will switch off with 10 beeps.

The "Child-safety-lock" feature can be activated by pressing "Time up" and "Time down" simultaneously for 2 seconds. Repeating this action will unlock the machine.

The "Start/Reset" button serves to stop operation during cooking. If a program was set but not started, pressing this button will cancel all set programs.

Maintenance features are detailed in the "Care of your microwave oven" section. Before cleaning, the oven should be turned off, and the power plug removed from the wall socket. The inside of the oven should be kept clean, wiping food splatters or spilled liquids with a damp cloth; harsh detergents or abrasives are not recommended. The outside surface should be cleaned with a damp cloth, ensuring water does not seep into ventilation openings to prevent damage to internal operating parts. The control panel should not get wet and should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth, avoiding detergents, abrasives, or spray-on cleaners. If steam accumulates around the oven door, it should be wiped with a soft cloth, noting that this is normal under high humidity and not a malfunction. The glass tray should be removed occasionally for cleaning and can be washed in warm sudsy water or a dishwasher. The roller ring and oven cavity floor should be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive noise, wiping with mild detergent, water, or window cleaner. Cooking vapors may collect but do not affect the roller ring wheels or bottom surface. When removing the roller ring for cleaning, it must be replaced in the proper position. Odors can be removed by microwaving a mixture of water, lemon juice, and lemon skin in a deep microwaveable bowl for 5 minutes, then wiping and drying the oven. If the oven light needs replacement, a dealer should be consulted.

The manual concludes with environmental advice, stating that the appliance should not be disposed of with normal household waste but handed in at an official collection point for recycling to preserve the environment. For guarantee and service information or problems, users are directed to contact the Gorenje Customer Care Centre in their country, or a local Gorenje dealer or the Service department of Gorenje domestic appliances if no local centre exists. Additional recommendations for microwave and grill cooking, along with useful advice, can be found on the Gorenje website. The manual ends with a wish for pleasure while using the appliance.
