This document is the owner's manual for the TopStar 12oz Commercial Popcorn Popper, manufactured by Great Northern Popcorn Company. It provides comprehensive information on the device's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.
Function Description:
The TopStar 12oz Commercial Popcorn Popper is an industrial-strength commercial popcorn machine suitable for both home and business use, including sport stadiums, convenience stores, and mini-marts. Its primary function is to pop popcorn efficiently and safely. The machine is designed to produce high-quality popcorn, keeping it warm, dry, and tasty for extended periods. It features a 12oz kettle, a stirrer mechanism, and a warming function to ensure optimal popcorn quality. The unit is designed for ease of use and maintenance, with clear instructions provided for assembly, operation, and cleaning.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Model Number: 6205 Topstar Twelve OZ Popcorn Machine
- Kettle Size: 12oz.
- Power Requirements: 120V AC ~ 1200W, 60Hz. This indicates it's designed for standard North American electrical outlets.
- Included Accessories: Popcorn scoop, Kernel scoop, Oil measurement set (including 1 tablespoon and 1 half-cup measure).
- Measurement Equivalents: 1 scoop = 6oz.
- Popcorn to Oil Ratio: A good rule of thumb for popcorn to oil ratio is 3:1. For a full 12oz batch, use 2 scoops (12oz) of popcorn to 1 half-cup of oil.
- Approximate Yield per Batch: 4-5 gallons, depending on corn freshness and quality.
- Switches: The main unit has three function switches: Warmer (III), Stirrer (I), and Pot Heater (II).
Usage Features:
The manual outlines a detailed procedure for operating the popcorn popper to ensure the best results and prolong machine life.
- Initial Setup: Before first use, the interior glass surfaces and the inside of the popper should be wiped with a clean, damp sponge. The unit must be placed on a dry, level surface, protected from rain and other weather elements, and plugged into a suitable grounded electrical outlet that matches the specified 120V power source.
- Assembly: The popcorn machine typically comes fully assembled. However, if the kettle is packed separately for protection, it needs to be removed from its packing material, wiped clean, and hung onto the kettle hangar assembly in the main unit. It's crucial to ensure the stirrer arm is securely seated and meshed with the gears.
- Operation Steps:
- Turn the Warmer switch (III) to ON.
- Turn the Pot Heater switch (II) to ON.
- Add the suitable amount of oil to the kettle. For a full 12oz batch, do not exceed ½ cup of oil. The manual recommends a 3:1 popcorn to oil ratio.
- Preheat the kettle for 3 to 4 minutes with the oil added, until steam emerges from the pot.
- Pour popcorn and seasoning (if using a Gourmet Tri-Pak pouch) into the pre-heated oil. If using bulk kernels, measure 2 scoops (12oz) of corn.
- Close the lid of the kettle. Caution: The lid is hot; oven mitts or potholders are recommended.
- Switch the Stirrer (I) to ON.
- Close the doors of the main unit.
- Popcorn will start popping out through the lid after approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
- Once popping stops (indicated by the absence of popping sounds from the pot), switch the Stirrer (I) and Pot Heater (II) to OFF.
- Rotate the roller bar/kettle arm of the pot and gently shake if necessary to pour out all remaining popcorn. Caution: The lid is hot; oven mitts or potholders are recommended.
- The Pot Heater switch (II) must remain OFF when not popping. Only the Warmer switch (III) should be left ON to keep the popcorn warm, dry, and tasty.
- Popcorn is ready to serve. It's advised not to add butter or other liquid flavoring directly into the main popcorn bin to avoid a mess; remove popcorn to a separate serving bowl before adding such flavorings.
- To continue popping, repeat steps 4-10.
- Safety Precautions (Important Safeguards):
- Always read all instructions before use.
- Do not touch hot surfaces; use handles or knobs.
- Do not immerse the cord, plug, or popping pot in water to avoid electrical shock.
- Close supervision is necessary when children are nearby.
- Unplug the unit when not in use and before cleaning.
- Allow hot parts to cool before moving or cleaning.
- Do not operate with a damaged cord, plug, or if the machine malfunctions.
- Only authorized technicians should open the unit for repair.
