How to fix uneven seed spacing on GREAT PLAINS Drill?
- CChristopher WebbAug 20, 2025
If you notice uneven seed spacing or an uneven stand with your GREAT PLAINS Drill, several factors could be at play. Start by checking for any blockages in the seed cup or seed tubes. Reducing your ground speed can also help. Ensure the opener disks turn freely and consider using a faster drive type, narrowing the seed cup doors. Also, verify the opener frame has adequate down pressure to penetrate the soil, increasing it if needed. Conversely, if there's too much down pressure causing rows to be unlevel, decrease it. Finally, inspect the Seed-Lok® wheels for trash or mud buildup, locking them up if necessary, and check for chain skipping due to loose idlers or excess slack. Be aware that if conditions are too wet, end wheel slippage may occur, making planting difficult.
