5778 Megohmmeter
Megohmmeter Test
1. Visually inspect the tester, test leads,
and alligator clips.
2. Plug the red test lead into the positive
jack, and plug the black test lead into
the negative jack.
Note: Be sure that the clips do not
contact anything.
3. Press the 1000 volt selector switch.
4. Turn the crank clockwise approximately
2-1/2 to 3 turns per second. The
pointer should move to the right-hand
side of the scale (toward the infinity
mark). Any other reading indicates that
the test leads are damaged or the
megohmmeter needs repair.
5. Connect the alligator clips together.
Turn the crank clockwise approxi-
mately 2-1/2 to 3 turns per second.
The pointer should move to the left-
hand side of the scale (toward zero).
Any other reading indicates that the
test leads are damaged.
Setup
Note: Refer the manufacturer’s
specifications to find the
operating voltage of the device
under test.
1. Shut off and disconnect power. Make
sure all capacitors are fully discharged.
Voltage must not be present.
2. Select the test range on the
megohmmeter to twice the operating
voltage for the device under test.
