Overview

This document provides the operator manual for the Greenworks MO48L4214 / LME476 lawn mower, a 48V (2 x 24V) cordless lawn mower designed for domestic use. It emphasizes safety, proper operation, and maintenance to ensure efficient and safe lawn care.

Function Description

The Greenworks MO48L4214 / LME476 is a cordless lawn mower intended for domestic lawn mowing. It operates on two 24V Greenworks battery packs, providing a total of 48V power. The machine is designed to cut grass with its blade approximately parallel to the ground, with all four wheels touching the ground during operation. It features a 2-in-1 function for mulching and side discharge, allowing users to choose their preferred method of grass disposal. The mower is equipped with a safety key and a bail switch for starting and stopping, which are crucial safety features.

Usage Features

The mower requires two fully charged Greenworks 24V battery packs to operate. Using only one battery pack will prevent the machine from starting. If batteries have different charge states or amp-hours (Ah), the run-time will be limited by the lowest powered battery.

Installation and Setup:

  • Unpacking: Open the package, read documentation, remove parts, and discard packing material according to local regulations.
  • Handle Assembly: The lower handle (5) needs to be unfolded by pushing inward on the legs to free them from the lock pins (7), then pulling the top of the handle up. The bottom handle hole (8) should engage with the lock pin (9) on both sides, and the handle knobs (10) tightened. The upper handle (3) is then installed by aligning its holes with the lower handle (5), inserting cam locks (12), and tightening knobs (11). There are two positions for installing the upper handle.
  • Side Discharge Chute: To install the side discharge chute (4), open and hold the side discharge door (13), align the chute's recesses under the articulation (14), and close the door. The grass catcher should not be installed when using side discharge, and the mulching plug should remain installed.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The cutting height can be adjusted using the height adjustment lever. Pulling the lever backward increases the height, and pulling it forward decreases it.
  • Battery Installation: Open the battery door (6), align the grooves on the battery pack(s) (15) with the grooves in the compartment, and push the battery pack(s) into place until it clicks. Ensure both batteries are installed in the compartments. Close the battery door.

Operation:

  • Starting: Insert the safety key (16), push and hold the start button (2), and while holding the start button, pull the bail switch (1) towards the handle bar. Release the start button to start the machine.
  • Stopping: Release the bail switch to stop the machine. Wait for the blades to fully stop before restarting.
  • Slope Operation: Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction. Monitor for holes, roots, rocks, hidden objects, or bumps. Ensure stable footing. Do not mow slopes greater than 15 degrees or on wet grass.
  • Operation Tips: Do not override the start button or bail switch. Do not tilt the machine when starting. Keep hands and feet away from turning parts. Keep the discharge chute clean. Avoid cutting wet grass. Use a higher blade height for new or thick grass. Clean the mower deck after each use.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the mower.

  • General Maintenance: Before each use, inspect the machine for damaged, missing, or loose parts (screws, nuts, bolts, caps). Tighten all fasteners. Clean the machine with a dry cloth; do not use water.
  • Blade Maintenance: Check the blade and motor mounting bolts frequently for tightness. Replace bent or cracked blades. Sharpen dull blades equally at each end to maintain balance. Clean the blade thoroughly and check its balance by supporting it horizontally on a thin nail through its center hole.
  • Safety Devices: Keep guards in place and in working order. Never remove or tamper with safety devices. Check their proper operation regularly.
  • Battery Care: Always remove the battery pack(s) and safety key before any adjustments, cleaning, or repairs. Do not expose battery packs to fire or excessive temperatures (above 130°C). Do not open or destroy battery packs. If a leak occurs, avoid contact with electrolytes. Dispose of batteries at a certified recycling center.
  • Storage: Remove the safety key and battery pack(s). Clean the machine before storage. Ensure the motor is not hot. Store in a dry area, out of reach of children.

Safety Information

The manual emphasizes several warnings and cautions:

  • General Safety: Always wear eye protection. Do not expose the product to rain or moist conditions. Read the operator's manual before use. Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts. Keep bystanders away (100 ft/30m).
  • Battery Safety: Use only approved Greenworks 24V battery packs and chargers. Ensure both batteries are 100% charged. Do not use damaged or modified batteries.
  • Chemical Exposure (Proposition 65): The product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Users are advised to work in well-ventilated areas and use approved safety equipment like dust masks.
  • Thrown Debris: Wear safety glasses to protect against thrown objects.
  • Steep Slopes: Use extra caution on slopes; do not mow slopes greater than 15 degrees.
