Overview

The GT8 Terminal is a data collection device designed for various applications, including Time and Attendance in commercial and retail sectors. It features a flexible, modular hardware design that supports different reader technologies and allows for easy addition of power supplies and ancillary input/output modules. The terminal runs on an Android operating system, offering extensive functionality and a rich user experience for data collection solutions. Software management after deployment is a core function, enabling updates to the operating system flash image and application program parameters via the internet or USB memory stick.

Function Description:

The GT8 terminal is designed to capture and process data for time and attendance, access control, and other workforce management tasks. Its core function is to identify individuals using various biometric and card-based technologies, record their interactions, and transmit this data to Human Resources Management Systems (HRMS) or other applications. The device can be customized with optional modules for facial recognition, temperature screening, and various card reader types, expanding its utility beyond basic time clock functions.

Usage Features:

Installation:

  • The terminal should be fixed to a flat surface, with the center of the camera positioned at 148cm above the floor, considering local disability legislation.
  • Multiple cable routing options are available, with the lower (larger) aperture recommended for ease.
  • Wall bracket mounting involves securing the bracket, connecting cables, and then sliding the GT8 unit onto the bracket.

Terminal Setup Navigation:

  • Touch screen interface for navigation.
  • Access menu by touching the icon.
  • Toggle switches for activation/deactivation.
  • Back arrow for returning to previous screens.
  • Circle button for returning to the initial screen.
  • Touch and drag for scrolling.

Software Deployment:

  • Firmware and application updates can be deployed via a FAT32 formatted USB memory stick with a "GT-Install" folder.
  • The deployment process will not downgrade existing Android packages or firmware.
  • Installation is initiated via the "USB Install" utility from the Apps screen.

Application Setup:

  • After initial installation, the application requires configuration via the "Setup Application" option or the application icon.

Terminal Shut Down:

  • A graceful shut down operation is recommended to safely remove power.
  • The terminal will restart after a delay if power remains connected.
  • The battery backup allows the terminal to run after a power failure until a lower threshold is reached, triggering a graceful shut down.
  • To completely power off, disconnect the power supply after the shut down process is complete.

Software Reset:

  • Android provides a mechanism to remove installed packages and data.
  • Accessed via Settings > System > Reset Options > Erase all data (factory reset).
  • The terminal will restart with factory settings and erased data.

Recovery Menu:

  • Accessed by pressing and holding the Recovery button during power-up.
  • Options include rebooting the system, wiping cache partition, and wiping data/factory reset.
  • The Recovery button is located near the bottom edge of the main PCB, under the bottom rear cover.

Configuring Network Settings:

  • Wired network and Wi-Fi settings are configured through the Settings menu.
  • Wi-Fi must be enabled to see available networks.
  • Supports manual network addition and configuration of automatic reconnection.

Configuring Readers:

  • Reader type (hardware connection) and decoder (data interpretation) can be auto-detected or manually configured via the Settings menu.
  • Supports various reader types like proximity, Wiegand, magstripe, iClass, and barcode.
  • Wiegand Bitmask and Parity mask options are available for custom decodes and data validation.

Testing Card Readers:

  • A utility in the Readers & peripherals dialog displays reader output to validate correct functioning.

Testing the Camera:

  • Selecting the Camera icon displays a live picture; a camera active indicator is lit when operating.
  • Camera options include viewing photos, showing/hiding grid, taking photos, and a countdown timer.

Testing Biometric Reader:

  • A utility in the Biometric dialog displays the output of the biometric reader.
  • Users place a finger on the reader, and the test fingerprint is displayed. Test fingerprints are not saved.

Terminal Health Information:

  • The GT8 monitors key system elements and displays their status via the Settings > Health menu.

Maintenance Features:

General Maintenance:

  • The GT8 terminal does not require regular maintenance during its service life.

Battery Check:

  • It is recommended to periodically (every six months) check the condition of the battery.
  • Replace the battery if signs of swelling are noticed (Part Number: EM-BB-2HR-A).

Cleaning:

  • The terminal surface should be wiped with a lint-free cloth dampened with up to 70% isopropyl alcohol.
  • Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the terminal to prevent damage to electronics.
  • Particular care should be taken when cleaning the display and biometric devices.
  • For facial recognition camera window, clean only when strictly necessary as anti-reflective coatings are easily scratched.
  • DO NOT use acids, solvents, polishes, or abrasives.

Disposal:

  • In accordance with EN 50419, the terminal must be disposed of at the end of its life by returning to a designated recycling organization for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE directive).
  • Batteries should be carefully removed and recycled according to local regulations/legislation.
