Do you have a question about the Grunbeck GENO-mat duo WE and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Grünbeck GENO-mat® duo WE is a series of twin water softeners designed for the continuous supply of soft water, suitable for both cold drinking water and industrial water applications. These systems are volume-controlled, meaning regeneration is initiated when a preset volume of water in an exchanger tank has been softened. The regeneration process itself utilizes soft water.

Function Description:

The core function of the GENO-mat® duo WE is water softening through ion exchange. Hard raw water, containing calcium and magnesium ions, flows through an exchanger tank filled with a resin. This resin has bonding positions that preferentially capture calcium and magnesium ions while releasing sodium ions into the water. This process continues until the resin's sodium ions are largely exhausted. To restore the resin's softening capacity, a regeneration phase is initiated where a concentrated salt solution (brine) is introduced. The high concentration of sodium ions in the brine displaces the captured calcium and magnesium ions from the resin, which are then flushed out as waste water. The system is available with either "full salting" or "economy salting" modes, which dictate the regeneration process and salt consumption. Full salting systems are capable of softening water to less than 0.1 °Gh.

For drinking water applications, the system incorporates a blending valve to achieve a desired residual hardness, typically between 3 °Gh and 8 °Gh, and to ensure the sodium concentration remains below the German Drinking Water Ordinance limit of 200 mg/l. The blending valve allows for the addition of untreated inlet water to achieve the target hardness.

The system's operation is managed and monitored by a microprocessor controller, the GENO®-IONO-matic, which features an LCD display to show system status, operating parameters, and error messages. For specific versions (GENO-mat® duo WE-MSR and WE-KWA), dedicated control units (GENO®-MSR-tronic and GENO®-KWA-tronic2) are used.

    • Drain connection: Minimum DN 50.
    • Power supply: 230V/50-60Hz (system operation with protective low-voltage 24/50-60).
    • Connected load: 40 VA.
    • Protection class: IP 54/I.
  • Performance Data:

    • Nominal pressure (PN): 10 bar.
    • Operating pressure (min./max.): 2.0/8.0 bar.
    • Max. continuous flow: Varies by model and salting mode. For full salting, it ranges from 2.0 m³/h (model 65) to 9.5 m³/h (model 750). For economy salting, it also ranges from 2.0 m³/h (model 50) to 9.5 m³/h (model 530).
    • Nominal capacity: Varies by model and salting mode. For full salting, it ranges from 12.0 mol (67 m³x°Gh) for model 65 to 133.2 mol (746 m³x°Gh) for model 750. For economy salting, it ranges from 9.5 mol (53 m³x°Gh) for model 50 to 95.2 mol (533 m³x°Gh) for model 530.

Usage Features:

  • Continuous Soft Water Supply: As a twin system, one exchanger tank can be in operation while the other is in standby or regeneration, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of soft water.
  • Volume-Controlled Regeneration: Regeneration is triggered by the volume of water softened, optimizing salt and water usage.
  • Blending Valve: Allows precise adjustment of residual hardness for drinking water applications to meet specific requirements and regulations.
  • Microprocessor Controller (GENO®-IONO-matic): Provides user-friendly interface for setting operating parameters, reading system status (e.g., remaining capacity, water flow, time since last regeneration), and initiating manual regeneration.
  • Error Detection and Reporting: The system is equipped with an error detection system that displays error messages (e.g., Er 1 for regeneration motor issues, Er 4 for low salt alarm) to facilitate troubleshooting.
  • Optional Accessories: Includes various mounting sets, a recirculation unit to reduce counter ion effect during standstill, a voltage-free signal for operating mode indication, and an automatic empty signal for the brine tank. The GENO-STOP® safety device offers comprehensive protection against water damage.
  • Disinfection Unit: Standard for economy salting systems (except WE-KWA versions), generating chlorine from brine via electrolysis to ensure hygienic operation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspections: DIN EN 806-5 mandates inspections every two months, minor maintenance every 6 months, and major maintenance annually.
  • Self-Service Inspections: Users can perform regular inspections, including determining raw and soft water hardness, checking salt levels, and verifying control valve tightness.
  • Salt Refilling: Requires careful attention to hygiene and the use of salt tablets as per DIN EN 973 type A to prevent malfunctions and ensure water quality.
  • Operation Log: An operation log is provided to record all maintenance work, measurements, and checks, serving as evidence of proper maintenance.
  • Professional Maintenance: Major maintenance, including checking control valve function, replacing wearing seals, cleaning injectors and sieves, and checking hydraulic values, must be performed by Grünbeck's technical service or authorized specialists.
  • Wearing Parts: Seals, control pistons, injectors, and actuators are subject to wear and tear and are listed as wearing parts, with a limited warranty period of 6 months for these and electrical components.
  • Maintenance Contracts: Grünbeck offers maintenance contracts to ensure all required tasks are performed on time.
