Overview

This document describes the GRUNDIG Hair Clipper models MC 2640 and MC 2641, designed for domestic use. It provides instructions for safe operation, an overview of the controls and accessories, details on power supply options, guidance for cutting hair, and information on cleaning and maintenance.

Function Description

The GRUNDIG Hair Clipper is a personal grooming appliance designed for cutting hair. It features a high-quality, stainless steel blade with a cutting width of 40 mm, capable of cutting hair to a minimum length of approximately 1.5 mm without an attachment comb. The clipper operates on rechargeable nickel metal hydride batteries, offering cordless convenience, or can be used directly from the mains power supply via an adapter.

The device is equipped with two comb attachments: a small comb for cutting lengths between 4 mm and 20 mm, and a large comb for lengths between 24 mm and 40 mm. These attachments allow for a wide range of hair cutting styles and lengths. A telescopic comb adjustment switch enables precise selection of the desired cutting length, indicated by a display. The appliance automatically locks the attached combs once switched on, ensuring stability during use.

Usage Features

To begin using the hair clipper, users must first ensure the batteries are fully charged (14 hours for the first use or after a long period of disuse, and approximately 10 hours for subsequent charges when the appliance is off). A red LED indicator signals when the device is charging. The clipper can operate for approximately 60 minutes on a full charge. It is recommended not to recharge the batteries after every use, especially if the full running time has not been utilized, to extend battery life. Daily charging should be avoided.

For mains operation, the supplied adapter connects to the clipper's socket and then to a wall outlet. When operating on mains power, the internal batteries are switched off. It is crucial to use the appliance in battery (cordless) mode only when in the bathroom or near water connections to prevent electrical hazards.

Before attaching a comb, the telescopic comb adjustment switch should be set to Position 1. The comb attachment is then aligned with the side guide grooves behind the blade, ensuring its angle matches the blade's angle, and pressed into place until it latches. The telescopic comb adjustment switch is then used to select the desired cutting length, with options ranging from 4 mm to 40 mm depending on the comb used.

When cutting hair, it is advised to place a hand towel around the neck and shoulders of the person whose hair is being cut. The person should be seated so that their head is roughly at eye level. Hair should be combed before cutting, allowing it to fall loosely and reveal its natural growth direction. The clipper should always be moved against the natural direction of hair growth. For first-time users, it's recommended to cut small amounts of hair initially to become accustomed to the adjustable cutting lengths. Hair should be combed repeatedly during the process, checking for and removing cut hair. For optimal results, hair should be dry.

The appliance is switched on via the ON/OFF switch. To remove a comb attachment, the telescopic comb adjustment switch must first be set to Position 7. The comb attachment can then be carefully pulled out of the side guide grooves. If the appliance becomes blocked by thick hair during use, it should be switched off immediately, and the comb attachment and blade cleaned with the supplied brush. If the cutting blades move slowly or not at all, the appliance should be cleaned as described in the maintenance section.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and care are essential for maintaining the performance and longevity of the GRUNDIG Hair Clipper. After each use, hair remains should be removed.

To clean the appliance:

  1. Switch off the appliance. If using mains mode, disconnect the mains adapter plug from the socket.
  2. Remove the comb attachment and clean the blade using the supplied brush.
  3. Clean the housing and comb attachment with a soft cloth moistened with water.
  4. Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
  5. Ensure all parts are thoroughly dried with a soft cloth before storing or using again.
  6. Do not use cleaning agents.
  7. Re-attach the comb attachment.

To maintain the original quality of the blade, it must be oiled at regular intervals using the supplied oil only.

For storage, the appliance should be kept in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children. If the appliance will not be used for a lengthy period, it should be stored carefully in its original packaging.
