Overview

The Grundig SIS 7040 Steam Station is designed for efficient and safe garment care, offering both dry and steam ironing capabilities. This appliance is intended for household use only and should be operated indoors on a flat, stable, clean, and dry surface. It is crucial to read the instruction manual thoroughly before use to prevent damage and ensure proper operation.

Function Description

The primary function of the Grundig SIS 7040 is to provide powerful steam for ironing, making it easier to remove wrinkles from various fabrics. It features a 1.7-litre removable water tank, allowing for extended ironing sessions without frequent refills. The steam ironing station is equipped with a temperature control dial, enabling users to select the appropriate heat setting for different fabric types, from Nylon and Silk to Wool, Cotton, and Linen. A temperature indicator light illuminates while the iron is heating up and turns off once the desired temperature is reached, indicating readiness for use.

For steam ironing, the device offers three steam settings: LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH, selectable via dedicated steam buttons. The steam jet button allows for a burst of steam when needed. Vertical steam ironing is also possible, suitable for refreshing hanging garments like suits, jackets, coats, or curtains. The appliance incorporates a power indicator and a water filling indicator to keep the user informed about its status.

Usage Features

Before initial use, all packaging materials, stickers, and protective foils must be removed. The appliance should be cleaned externally as described in the "Cleaning and Care" section. For dry ironing, ensure the water tank is empty to prevent steam pressure buildup. After plugging in the power cable, switch on the steam ironing station using the on/off switch. The power indicator will light up red, and the blue steam button indicator light will blink on LOW. Adjust the temperature control dial according to the garment's care label. The iron is ready for use when the temperature indicator light turns off. During dry ironing, avoid pressing the steam jet button.

For steam ironing, first, fill the water tank with tap water or distilled water up to the MAX marking. It is recommended to mix tap water with distilled water in a 50:50 ratio if your tap water is very hard. Once the water tank is filled and secured, switch on the appliance. The water in the tank heats up within approximately 3 minutes. The iron is ready for steam ironing when the temperature indicator light is off and the control indicator in the selected steam button stays lit. Hold the iron horizontally over garments and press the steam jet button, continuously moving the iron. For vertical steaming, hold the iron in a vertical position at the garments or curtains and press the steam jet button, moving the iron as you steam.

The steam ironing station has an automatic shut-off feature, turning off if no button or control element is activated for 10 minutes. When taking breaks, always place the iron back on the thermally insulated storage base, ensuring the tip of the soleplate rests on the base. After ironing, switch off the appliance by pressing and holding the on/off switch for a few seconds, set the temperature control dial to MIN, and disconnect the power plug. Allow the appliance to cool down completely before storing it.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and efficiency of the Grundig SIS 7040. The appliance should be cleaned before each use. For external cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. The soleplate can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth or, if necessary, with a mild, non-abrasive liquid cleaner to remove deposits. Never use petrol, solvents, abrasive cleaners, steel wool, wood, or hard brushes for cleaning.

A crucial maintenance feature is descaling. The steam ironing station is equipped with an orange "Descaling" warning indicator light that flashes on the control panel after approximately 100 minutes of operation. When this light illuminates, descaling is required before the next use to maintain efficiency and prevent scale particles from damaging garments. To descale, ensure the iron has cooled down for at least 2 hours to avoid burns. Place the cooled iron on an even surface, then turn the steam ironing station on its side. Pull the rubber closure from the water drainage screw. Use the provided key (or a flat head screwdriver/coin) to open the water drainage screw and let the water drain into a sink. After draining, screw the water drainage screw back in and tighten it, then push the rubber closure back into place. It is important not to use any descaling products, as these can damage the appliance.

For storage, ensure the iron is disconnected from the power supply and completely dry. Empty the water tank by opening the water drainage screw and letting any remaining water drain out. Wind the steam hose and power cable around the cable storage holder and secure them with the clamping bracket. Store the appliance in a cool, dry place, preferably in its original packaging, and out of reach of children.
