Overview

This document describes the Guardian Basic Steel Rollator with 6" Wheels Rolling Walker, a mobility aid designed for individual use. It is not intended to be used as a wheelchair.

Function Description:

The rollator is a four-wheeled rolling walker designed to assist users with mobility. It features handlebars with integrated brake assemblies, a backrest sling for support when seated, and a seat for resting. A storage bag is included for carrying personal items. The rollator is foldable for storage and transport.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Maximum Weight Capacity: 350 lbs (159 kg) (including contents of the bag).
  • Storage Bag Weight Capacity: 10 lbs (4.5 kg).
  • Wheel Size: 6" (15.2 cm) for both front and rear wheels.
  • Frame Material: Basic steel.
  • Latex-Free: Not made with natural rubber latex.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly:
    • Components should be carefully removed from the shipping carton and inspected for damage. Do not use if damaged or if parts are missing (other than the bag).
    • The rollator unfolds by pushing down on the folding support bracket (I) until the frame is fully extended.
    • The backrest sling (D) is inserted with the curved portion facing the front of the unit, sliding into the plastic attachment piece.
    • Handlebars (B) are inserted so that the handgrips (A) align with the rear wheels. Brake cables should be on the outside of the handlebars and frame, with excess cable looping towards the front.
    • Handlebar height (B) is adjustable for proper fit. To determine the correct height, the user should stand upright behind the rollator with shoulders relaxed, arms hanging at their sides, and eyes looking straight ahead. The handgrips (A) should be adjusted to a height even with the wrists, positioning the arms at an approximate 20° to 30° bend when using the rollator. The handlebars are secured at the closest hole to the desired height by inserting a screw from the inside of the rollator through the frame, attaching a washer snugly against the frame, and securing with a star knob (C). Star knobs should be hand-tightened only.
  • Operating as a Walker:
    • For correct positioning, imagine a line drawn across the back of the rear wheels. Part of one foot should be slightly ahead of this line when walking.
    • Push the rollator to the desired location.
  • Operating as a Seat:
    • ALWAYS LOCK THE BRAKES BEFORE SITTING on the seat.
    • Do not sit on the rollator while it is being loaded into or transported in a vehicle.
    • Do not use the seat to transport people or objects.
    • Do not sit on the rollator when it is on an incline.
    • The backrest sling (D) is designed to provide back support when seated but is not intended to support the user's full body weight. Avoid leaning while seated, as this may cause a fall.
  • Brake Operation:
    • To slow down: Squeeze the brake handles upwards.
    • To brake/lock: Squeeze the brake handles downwards until you feel or hear the brakes click into the locked position.
    • If the brakes are adjusted but the rear wheels continue to roll when locked, do not use the rollator. Contact customer service for returns or repairs.
    • To release locked brakes: Simply release the brake handles.
    • Safety Precaution: Always test the rollator after making any adjustments to the brakes before use.
  • General Safety Warnings:
    • Read and understand all instructions and warnings in the manual before use. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or damage to the device.
    • The rollator is for individual use only and MUST NOT BE USED AS A WHEELCHAIR.
    • Do not use the rollator to walk backward, on gradients, to climb stairs, curbs, or to overcome obstacles, as this may cause falls or injuries.
    • All wheels must be in contact with the floor at all times to ensure proper balance.
    • Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 350 lbs (159 kg).
    • Items in the storage bag should be fully placed inside and not protrude. Excess weight or protruding items can cause the rollator to tip, resulting in injury or damage.
    • Ensure the rollator frame is fully open before each use.

Maintenance Features:

  • The rollator should be regularly checked to ensure proper brake function and that all bolts and nuts are secure.
  • Regularly test the brakes by walking and squeezing them, then stopping, locking them, and attempting to push the rollator while locked. If the brakes do not lock the wheels, they must be readjusted. If adjustment does not tighten the brakes, DO NOT USE the rollator.
  • Periodically wipe down the rollator with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner.

Warranty:

The Medline product comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for the duration of use by the original purchaser. This warranty covers repair or replacement of the device at Medline's option in case of a covered defect. It does not cover device failure due to owner misuse, negligence, or normal wear and tear. Non-durable components such as rubber accessories, casters, and grips, which are subject to normal wear and replacement, are not covered.
