Overview

This document describes the Guzzini HAUSBRANDT espresso coffee machine, designed exclusively for use with Hausbrandt capsules.

Function Description

The Guzzini HAUSBRANDT espresso coffee machine is a compact device for preparing espresso coffee and other hot beverages. It operates by inserting a Hausbrandt capsule into a dedicated compartment and initiating the brewing process. The machine is equipped with a general switch (1), a water tank with a lid (2), a capsule loading lever (3), a capsule housing (4), an ON/OFF button (5) for starting and stopping the brewing, a dispensing spout (6), a drip tray/drainer (7), a used capsule collection container (8), and a power cable (9).

To prepare coffee, the machine must first be turned on using the general switch (1). The LEDs on the water tank and dispensing compartment, as well as the red light on the ON/OFF button (5), will illuminate. After approximately 90 seconds, the ON/OFF button light will turn white, indicating that the machine has reached its ideal operating temperature. The capsule loading lever (3) is then lifted, a capsule is inserted into the capsule housing (4), and the lever is lowered. A cup is placed on the drip tray grid (7) under the dispensing spout (6). The ON/OFF button (5) is pressed to start dispensing coffee. The dispensing can be stopped by pressing the ON/OFF button (5) again. If not manually interrupted, the system is designed to automatically stop dispensing after approximately 90 seconds, which corresponds to about 250 cc of liquid. After brewing, the cup is removed, and the lever is lifted to eject the used capsule into the collection container (8), which can hold up to 12 capsules.

The drip tray and grid are designed to adjust the distance between the cup and the dispensing spout, allowing for the use of both espresso cups (high position) and larger mugs for other beverages (low position).

Usage Features

Installation: Before installation, users must carefully read the general safety warnings. The machine should be removed from its packaging and placed on a flat, stable surface in a closed domestic environment. The water tank (2) should be filled with natural, non-carbonated potable water with a hardness below 20°f (French degrees) up to the MAX level. The machine is connected to an earthed power outlet using the power cable (9), ensuring the outlet can support the machine's load. Multiple sockets and extension cords should not be used.

Before definitive use, it is recommended to run 4 or 5 trial coffees (potentially using the same capsule) to flush the internal circuit and remove any residues.

Warnings: The machine should never be operated without water. The water level in the tank must always be above the minimum line, and the tank must be securely attached to the machine. If the machine is not used for about 20 minutes, an internal timer will put the system into stand-by mode, indicated by a flashing red light on the ON/OFF button (5) and the tank and dispensing compartment LEDs turning off. To resume normal operation, press the ON/OFF button (5) and wait for the light to turn white. Condensation may form between the capsule loading lever (3) and the plastic casing, and between the drip tray and the plastic casing. This is normal operation and not a fault. If there is no water, the pump will become noisier, and a gurgling sound will be heard from inside the water tank. Disconnect the machine from the mains before refilling the tank.

Troubleshooting: A table is provided for common issues:

  • Machine does not turn on: Possible cause is not connected to the mains; solution is to connect to the mains.
  • No coffee, noisy pump: Possible cause is no water in the tank; solution is to top up with water.
  • Coffee is too cold: Possible causes are cold mugs/cups or the machine needs descaling; solutions are to preheat cups and descale the machine.
  • Capsule not inserted correctly: Possible cause is a full used capsule container; solution is to remove and empty the container.
  • Lever does not go down: Possible cause is a full used capsule container; solution is to remove and empty the container, and remove any stuck capsules.
  • Capsule stuck in loading device: Possible cause is the capsule not discharged after use and still inside the device; solutions are to pull out the plug and gently tap the capsule with a non-hazardous tool to remove it.

For issues not listed or if suggested solutions do not work, contact Fratelli Guzzini Spa.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Always unplug the machine from the mains and wait for all parts to cool down completely. The drip tray (7), which includes the used capsule container (8), should be removed, emptied, and rinsed with running water. The water tank can also be washed with running water. The machine body can be cleaned with a damp cloth. All parts must be dried thoroughly before reassembly. Never immerse the machine in water. Do not use water that has been in the tank for several days for consumption. Do not dry the machine or its parts in a microwave or traditional oven.

Descaling: Periodic descaling is essential for proper machine functioning, especially if the machine has been inactive for several days (e.g., during holidays), to prevent limescale from solidifying and permanently damaging gaskets and the pump. The electronic system indicates the need for descaling every 500 cycles by flashing the LEDs on the ON/OFF button, the dispensing compartment, and under the tank. The machine will continue to operate normally. To reset the LEDs to normal operation, press the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds. Descaling products specifically designed for coffee machines, non-toxic and non-harmful, should be used following their instructions. The recommended descaling method involves:

  1. Pouring the descaling solution (prepared according to packaging instructions) into the tank.
  2. Ensuring no used capsules are in the capsule housing (4).
  3. Lowering the loading lever (3).
  4. Placing a cup on the drip tray grid (7).
  5. Starting the machine as if preparing coffee.
  6. Operating the pump until all the descaling solution in the tank is used (perform several cycles if necessary). After descaling, allow the machine to cool for a few minutes before cleaning. Do not use vinegar for descaling. Damage caused by limescale is not covered by the warranty.

End-of-Life Instructions: The product must not be disposed of with urban waste at the end of its life. It should be delivered to appropriate collection centers managed by local municipalities or to dealers providing this service. Separate disposal of household appliances prevents negative environmental and health consequences and allows for the recovery of constituent materials, saving energy and resources. The product is marked with a crossed-out wheeled dustbin symbol to indicate the obligation of separate disposal.
