Overview

The Hager EK530 is a programmable ambient thermostat designed to enhance comfort and energy efficiency in homes and offices. This mains-powered, weekly programmable device allows users to precisely control their heating and air conditioning systems through various temperature levels and operational modes.

Function Description

The thermostat offers four distinct temperature levels for heating:

  • Comfort: This is the desired temperature when occupants are present.
  • Comfort 2: A secondary comfort temperature level for specific times.
  • Eco: This temperature is set for short absences or during nighttime hours to save energy.
  • Frost Protection: A guaranteed minimum temperature for prolonged absences, safeguarding the accommodation against frost damage.

For air conditioning, the thermostat provides two temperature levels:

  • Comfort: The desired temperature when occupants are present.
  • Eco: The temperature for short absences or at night.

The device supports both heating (H) and air conditioning (C) modes, as well as a reversible heating/air-conditioning (HC) mode, indicated by a dedicated icon. This flexibility allows it to adapt to different climate control needs throughout the year.

Usage Features

The EK530 features a user-friendly interface with a clear display and intuitive navigation keys.

Initial Setup and Adjustment:

Upon first use, the thermostat guides the user through an initial setup process to adjust the year, date, and time. It also allows selection between automatic summer/winter time switching (AUTO) or manual (OFF), and a choice between 12-hour or 24-hour time formats.

Operational Modes:

  • Automatic Mode (auto): In this mode, the thermostat adapts to the user's daily rhythm by applying one or more pre-selected programs. Users can return to auto mode from other modes, even if a holiday program or timed restart is active.
  • Manual Mode (manu): This mode transforms the thermostat into a simple, constant-temperature device, maintaining a user-defined temperature between +5°C and +30°C, overriding any programmed profiles. The heating-activated indicator illuminates when heating is active.
  • Standby Mode: This mode puts the heating and/or air conditioning system on standby. The thermostat remains live, providing frost protection at a fixed 5°C (non-modifiable). The display shows the time, current day, ambient temperature, and "Off" information. In air conditioning mode, standby acts as a stop command, and ambient temperature is no longer regulated.

Installer Parameters:

The thermostat includes a set of installer parameters (PR:1 to PR:12) for advanced configuration, accessible by a long press on the OK key from the menu. These parameters allow customization of various functions:

  • PR:1 - Default duration of the temporary override: Sets a default restart time delay (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 12 hours) for temporary overrides.
  • PR:2 - Backlighting: Activates or deactivates the display backlighting.
  • PR:3 - Temperature calibration: Adjusts the displayed ambient temperature value to match actual measurements, with a range of +/-3°C.
  • PR:4 - 2nd Comfort temperature level: Selects between one or two Comfort temperature levels, applicable during programming of the free program (P4).
  • PR:5 - Heating/Air-con mode: Configures the installation for Heating (H), Air conditioning (C), or reversible Heating/Air-con (HC) mode.
  • PR:6 - Degumming the pump: Activates or deactivates an automatic pump start-up at midnight daily to prevent jamming during summer.
  • PR:7 - Type of heating regulation: Defines the inertia type of the heating installation (ON/OFF, FAS for rapid inertia, SLO for slow inertia).
  • PR:8 - Type of regulation for air conditioning: Similar to PR:7 but adapted for convector fan (FAS) and underfloor cooling (SLO).
  • PR:9 - Optimisation and anticipation: Activates optimisation or anticipation functions. Optimisation automatically estimates the time needed to reach the Comfort temperature and adjusts the heating switch-on time. Anticipation applies the Comfort temperature from the personalized program (P4) in advance for a configurable period (1, 2, or 3 hours).
  • PR:10 - Return to factory settings: Resets all programs and parameters to their factory defaults.
  • PR:12 - Software version: Displays the installed software version.

User Parameters:

Users can access specific parameters (PR:1 to PR:4) to customize their experience:

  • PR:1 - Default duration of the temporary override: Same as the installer parameter, allowing users to set a default restart delay for temporary temperature changes.
  • PR:2 - Backlighting: Same as the installer parameter, allowing users to toggle backlighting.
  • PR:3 - Temperature calibration: Same as the installer parameter, allowing users to fine-tune temperature readings.
  • PR:4 - 2nd Comfort temperature level: Same as the installer parameter, allowing users to select between one or two Comfort temperature levels for programming.

Holiday Mode:

This mode protects the accommodation against frost by maintaining a minimum temperature (adjustable between 5°C and 30°C) during absences. Users can program the duration of their absence (1 to 99 days) and the desired temperature level. In air conditioning mode, this creates a holiday program where air conditioning stops, and ambient temperature is not regulated.

Heating/Air-con Reversibility:

If configured for reversible heating/air-conditioning (HC mode in PR:5), the thermostat can switch between heating and air conditioning modes.

Adjusting Temperature Set-points:

Users can modify the Comfort, Comfort 2, and Eco temperature set-points for both heating and air conditioning modes.

  • For heating (H), default set-points are Comfort=19°C, Comfort 2=20°C, Eco=16°C, with an adjustment range of 5°C to 30°C.
  • For air conditioning (C), default set-points are Comfort=24°C, Eco=29°C, with an adjustment range of 20°C to 30°C.
  • In reversible HC mode, set-points can be modified for each mode.

Programming:

The thermostat offers four programs:

  • P1, P2, P3: Pre-recorded and non-modifiable programs.
  • P4: A free program allowing users to create a personalized program with up to 5 Comfort and 5 Eco temperature periods for each day of the week.
  • P1o (Optimisation): Available when the optimisation parameter (PR:9) is active.
  • P1A (Anticipation): Available when the anticipation parameter (PR:9) is active.

Programs can be assigned to individual days, weekdays, or weekend days. A 24-hour profile is composed of 48 points, each representing 30 minutes, allowing detailed customization.

Temporary Overrides:

  • Override until next program step: In auto mode, users can temporarily modify the current set-point temperature until the next program step.
  • Temporary override with duration: Allows temporary modification of ambient temperature for a specified duration (15 minutes to 12 hours). The duration and desired temperature can be adjusted.

Accessories:

  • Telephonic remote control: The thermostat has an input for telephonic commands. A symbol indicates when Frost protection mode is requested telephonically. The frost protection temperature can be modified via the Holiday menu.
  • Remote temperature probe (ref. 25190): The thermostat can be connected to an external temperature probe. Once connected, it automatically detects the probe and regulates temperature based on its readings.

Maintenance Features

The device is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. Regular cleaning of the exterior with a soft, dry cloth is recommended. No specific internal maintenance is required by the user. In case of operational issues, the manual provides troubleshooting guidance, such as checking if the heating starts despite ambient temperature being lower than the set point, or vice versa, which might indicate specific regulation settings by the installer. For complex issues, contacting a qualified installer is advised.
