The GSF30 Grill Side Freezer is a mobile, double-wide freezer designed to hold 10:1 and 4:1 boxes at optimal temperatures during normal and peak sales periods. Its primary function is to maintain desired temperatures, typically between -10°F and 0°F (-23°C and -18°C), for various menu items, including breakfast and protein items, which can be stored on a sliding rail located in the top of the unit. Additional storage space is provided at the bottom of the unit.

- Approvals: ETL (Report No: 3084859DAL-001), NSF
Usage Features:
- Power Source: The unit requires a standard 120V AC 60 Hz, 15A outlet. It is crucial not to use other motors or heavy appliances on the same circuit to prevent service difficulties.
- Start-Up: To turn the freezer "ON," simply plug the cord into the outlet. Ensure the thermostat on the front is "ON." Allow the unit to run for 1 hour before loading it with product.
- Temperature Setting: The thermostat is factory-set to maintain temperatures between -10°F and 0°F.
- Thermostat Adjustment: If the desired temperature is not held, the thermostat can be adjusted. To do so, press the upper or lower button for 2 seconds and release; the set point will blink. Use the upper or lower button to adjust the temperature. The controller will accept the new set point after 3 seconds of no button presses. Wait 1 hour before making further adjustments. Excessive tampering can lead to service issues.
- Manual Defrost: A manual defrost cycle can be initiated by pressing the lower button for more than 5 seconds. The display will show "DEF." This cycle can be canceled by pressing the button again. This feature is useful if the coil freezes due to frequent door openings or high humidity.
- Celsius/Fahrenheit Toggle: The temperature display can be switched between Celsius and Fahrenheit by pressing the upper button for 5 seconds. The display will show "C" or "F." Press the button again to toggle the value. The new setting will be stored after 3 seconds of no button presses.
- Condensate Disposal: The unit features a built-in condensate pan in the base of the condensing unit, eliminating the need for a floor drain.
- Alarm Handling: The display shows alarm codes (e.g., E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, Ulo, Uhi, E9, E10, Hi, Lo, E13) and a blinking value if applicable, toggling between the error code and the value. These codes indicate various issues such as sensor defects, compressor fault, heater fault, pot fault, supply voltage issues, condenser temperature, and communication errors.
- Product Placement: An operations card guides the recommended placement of menu items for accessibility and storage, with rail pans for secondary menu items (e.g., sausage or protein items) and shelves for primary menu items and additional storage.
- Caution: Do not pack the unit with excess product, as this can impede airflow and affect operation. Avoid leaving the self-closing rolling cover open for extended periods.
Installation Instructions:
- Location: The freezer should be placed away from extreme heat and cold sources. A minimum of 2 inches of clearance around the unit is required to ensure adequate airflow to the compressor.
- Leveling: The unit must be level to ensure proper condensate drainage. The floor where the unit is located should also be level.
- Inspection: Upon receipt, inspect the equipment for any damage. Report any damage to the carrier and H&K immediately.
- Unpacking: Remove the plastic wrap and untie the electrical cord. It is recommended to keep the unit crated until it reaches its final installation location.
- Plug Installation (International Markets): For international markets, the installer must install the plug on the power cord before operation.
- Ambient Temperature: The refrigeration system is designed to operate in ambient temperatures of no more than 100°F.
Maintenance Features:
- Exterior Cleaning: Clean the exterior with a soap and water mixture and sanitize. Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or strong chemicals, as these can damage the stainless steel finish.
- Interior Cleaning: The anodized aluminum interior can be cleaned with a soft sponge and a soap-water mixture.
- Condenser Cleaning: For proper operation, the condenser fins and fans should be cleaned and vacuumed every 3 months. The back or side grill is removable for this purpose. Refer to the GSF PM card for specific cleaning instructions.
- Caution: Use of abrasive pads will scratch and spoil the unit's finish.
Troubleshooting:
The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues:
- Compressor will not start: Check if the cord is plugged in, thermostat is stuck, wiring is improper, or voltage is low. Solutions include plugging in the cord, replacing the thermostat, checking wiring, and correcting voltage.
- Unit runs continuously: Could be due to undercharge, a bad thermostat, or a dirty condenser. Solutions involve adding refrigerant, replacing the thermostat, or cleaning condenser fins.
- Condensation: May result from a leaky gasket, faulty wiring to the condensate heater, or faulty condensate heaters. Solutions include reinstalling the gasket, rewiring the condensate heater, or wiring a spare condensate heater.
- Unit noisy: Possible causes include loose parts, worn fan motor bearings, a bent fan blade, or a rattling compressor assembly. Solutions involve tightening parts, replacing the motor, replacing the fan blade, or checking compressor mounting.
- Temperature too high: Can be caused by a high-temperature setting, blocked condenser fins, restricted airflow, open door/lid, frozen evaporator coil, or just finishing a defrost cycle. Solutions include resetting the temperature, cleaning fins, ensuring air circulation, closing the door/lid, performing a manual defrost, or waiting for the temperature to fall.
