Expert Settings
These settings provide an additional degree of flexibility in tailoring a surround mode to your specific taste. As these
items may provide subtle improvements to the surround decoding, they are reserved in an “Expert” category, but you
need not be an expert to use them.
Back Delay Adjust
The time delay between the front and back speakers is normally set preset for each mode. If you wish to lengthen or
shorten the time between sounds being sent to the front and rear speakers, this is the place to do that.
To adjust front/back delay, start at the “Surround Mode Edit” Menu/ Press “Г until the on screen Ö pointer is on the
bottom line, next to “Expert Settings”. (Figure #xx)Press “Select” to continue.
At the “Surround Mode Edit -- Expert Settings” menu, the pointer will be at the top line, next to “Back Delay Adjust”. so
simply press “Select” to move to the next menu.
At the “Front Back Delay” screen, use the “Í“ and “Γ buttons to increase or decrease the delay setting. Note that the
change may be heard through the system, and a visual indication will appear in the form of a slider scale and a
readout of the delay in milliseconds.
HINT: Although the flexibility of the 7.0 enables the front back delay to be set as high as 79 milliseconds, most
movie and music source material will sound un-natural with a setting over 35 milliseconds.
When you have established the desired delay setting, press “”Exit/OK” to enter it to memory and return to the previous
menu.
Bass EQ Adjust
Bass EQ may be set at any time during a listening session by using the “Bass EQ” button on the remote. If you wish a
specific degree of bass boost to be added at all times in a specific mode, this is the place to enter that setting.
To select the degree of bass EQ (boost), start from the “Surround Edit” menu, and press “Г so that the on screen Ö
pointer is next to “Bass EQ Adjust”. Press “Select” to move to the next menu.
NOTE: Remember that an undesirable side effect of increased bass boost may be a loss of headrom in the
subwoofer channels. As you increase the bass boost setting, be careful to listen to any increase in system noise, and
cut the bass EQ setting back, if required.
At the “Bass Boost” screen (figure #xx), use the “Ï“ and “Г buttons until the on screen Ö pointer is next to the
desired bass boost level. Press “Select” to confirm the setting, and note that the cursor will move next to your
selection. Press “Exit/OK” to enter the setting to memory and to return to the previous menu.
Special Processing : Timbre Match, Hi Frequency EQ and Logic Speed
Three individual settings are contained in the “Special Processing” menu. Each of these is an on/off toggle switch, and
each adjustment controls a special aspect of the processors operation.
To change the setting for any of these three items, start at the ”Expert Settings” menu, and press “Г until the on
screen Ö pointer is next to “Special Processing”. Press “Select” to proceed to the next menu.
At the “Special Processing” menu, each of the three items is listed, and preceded with a “+” or “-”. (figure #xx) When
there is a “+”, or plus sign in front of the special option it is engaged, or “on”. A minus sign, or “-” indicates that the
feature is turned off.
