Avoiding Smoke and Odors

blower.Negativepressureinthehousemayresistthisnatural

airmustbereplacedwithcoldairfromoutdoors,whichows

Whentheapplianceisroofvented;
Theairintakeisbestlocatedontheexteriorwalloriented
toward the prevailing wind direction, during the heating
season.
Theoutsideairconnectionwillsupplyallofthedemandsof
theappliance.However,considerationmustbegiventothe
totalhousedemand.Housedemandmayconsumetheair
neededforthestove.Itmaybenecessarytoaddadditional
ventilationtothespacein which the applianceislocated.

ventilationdemandsforyourhouse.
Venting Congurations
Toreducethepossibilityofreversedraftingduringapower
failure,Hearth&HomeTechnologiesstronglyrecommends:
• Installingtheventpipewithaminimumverticalriseofve
feet,preferablyterminatingabovetheroofline.
• Installing outside air with the intake located below the
exhausttermination.
Topreventsootdamagetoexteriorwallsofthehouse,and
topreventre-entryofsmoke,soot,orashintothehouse:
• Maintain specied clearances to windows, doors, and
otherairinlets,includingairconditioners.
• Vents should not be placed below ventilated soffits.
Wheneverpossible,runtheventingabovetheroofline.
• Avoidterminatingtheventinanalcovelocation.
• Ventsshouldnotterminateunderoverhangs,decksor
ontocoveredporches.
• Maintain a minimum clearance of 12" from the vent
termination to the exterior wall. If you see deposits
developing on the wall, you may need to extend this
distancetoaccommodateyourinstallationconditions.
