What to do if a thermal alarm sounds on the Harmonic Spectrum MediaPort 7000 Server?
    • J
      Jacob WoodAug 12, 2025
If a thermal alarm sounds on the Harmonic Server, and the Operator Panel Module Fault displays amber, or the Fan Fail LED is lit on one or more PCMs, it indicates that the internal temperature exceeds a pre-set threshold. First, check that the local ambient environment temperature is within the specified limits. Then, inspect the installation for any airflow restrictions at the front or rear of the MediaStore, ensuring a minimum gap of 25 mm at the front and 50 mm at the rear. Also, check for dust build-up and clean as needed. Avoid excessive re-circulation of heated air from the rear to the front, and it is not recommended to use the MediaStore in a fully enclosed rack. If possible, shutdown the MediaStore and investigate the problem before continuing.

Why are the fans in my Harmonic Spectrum MediaPort 7000 running fast when it's not hot?

      Kathleen PinedaAug 17, 2025
If the ambient air temperature is below 25°C, and the fans in your Harmonic Server have increased in speed, it suggests that some airflow restriction may be causing an increase in the internal temperature. The fans automatically increase speed when a thermal threshold is reached. Check the installation for any airflow restrictions at either the front or rear of the MediaStore, ensuring a minimum gap of 25 mm at the front and 50 mm at the rear. Inspect for restrictions due to dust build-up and clean as necessary. Ensure there isn't excessive re-circulation of heated air from the rear to the front. Using the MediaStore in a fully enclosed rack is not recommended. Verify that all blank modules are in place and reduce the ambient temperature.
