CHAIN SAW SAFETY WARNINGS

user,youshouldtakeseveralstepstokeepyour
cuttingjobsfreefromaccidentorinjury.
Kickbackistheresultoftoolmisuseand/orincor-
rectoperatingproceduresorconditionsandcan
beavoidedbytakingproperprecautionsasgiven
below:
Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers
encircling the chain saw handles, with both
hands on the saw and position your body and
arm to allow you to resist kickback forces.
Kickbackforcescanbecontrolledbytheopera-
tor,ifproperprecautionsaretaken.Donotlet
goofthechainsaw.
Do not overreach and do not cut above chest
height. Thishelpspreventunintendedtipcon-
tactandenablesbettercontrolofthechainsaw
inunexpectedsituations.
Only use replacement bars and chains speci-
fied by the manufacturer.Incorrectreplace-
mentbarsandchainsmaycausechainbreak-
ageand/orkickback.
Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and
maintenance instructions for the saw chain.
Decreasingthedepthgaugeheightcanleadto
increasedkickback.
Donotstartcuttinguntilyouhaveaclearwork

Donotoperatechainsawinexplosiveatmo-
spheres,suchasinthepresenceofflammable
liquids, gases, ordust. Chain saws create
sparkswhichmayignitethedustorfumes.
Dress Properly– Wear snug fitting clothing.
Alwayswearheavy,longpants,longsleeves,
overalls,jeansorchapsmadeofcutresistant
material orones that contain cut resistant
inserts.Wearnon-slip safety footwear.Wear
non-slipheavy duty gloves to improveyour
gripand to protectyour hands.Do not wear
jewelry,short pants, sandals, or go barefoot.
Donotwearloosefittingclothing,whichcould
bedrawnintothemotororcatchthechainor
underbrush.Securehairsoitisaboveshoulder
level.Wearhearingandheadprotection.
Heavyprotectiveclothingmayincreaseoperator
fatigue,whichcouldleadtoheatstroke.Dur-
ingweatherthatishotandhumid,heavywork
shouldbescheduledforearlymorningorlate
afternoonhourswhentemperaturesarecooler.
Alwaysweareyeprotectionwithsideshields
markedtocomplywithANSIZ87.1aswellas
hearing and headprotection when operating
thisequipment.
